Coherent adiabatic passage in atomic systems with a closed interaction contour

Abstract

The effectiveness of coherent adiabatic passage in atomic systems with a closed interaction contour was studied. The dependence of coherent adiabatic passage on the algebraic sum of initial exciting field phases was demonstrated for the example of a double Λ-system of atomic levels. The conditions that should be met by interaction parameters for the occurrence of effective coherent adiabatic passage at various atomic contour phases were determined.

Coherent phenomena in multilevel systems with closed interaction contour

Dmitry V. Kosachiov, Boris G. Matisov, Yu. Rozhdestvensky

The work presented considers a new coherent phenomenon, i.e. the influence of the phases of electromagnetic fields interacting with a multilevel system on the character of excitation of this system. On the basis of analysing the equation for an N-level quantum system density matrix, it was established that in multilevel systems containing a closed contour of transitions, resonantly interacting with the field, stationary populations always depend on the total interaction contour phase Phi . For the simplest multilevel systems, i.e. three-level, the authors have obtained analytical expressions, connecting populations with the relative field phase in such systems. Thus, for a Lambda system, interacting with three resonant electromagnetic fields, it is discovered that, depending on the total phase value of the transition contour, both destruction and successive restoration of a coherent trapping state can take place. The work provides qualitative explanations of phase effects and suggests some possibilities for their application.

Three-level Λ atom in the field of frequency-chirped bichromatic laser pulses: Writing and storage of optical phase information

Gagik P. Djotyan, Jozsef S. Bakos, Zs. Sörlei

We investigate the behavior of a three-level atomic system with \ensuremath{\Lambda} structure of levels in the field of a sequence of short frequency-chirped bichromatic laser pulses (BLP's) in the adiabatic passage regime of interaction. We show that the efficiency of the population transfer in this atomic system is sensitive to the relative phase of the pulses forming the BLP when the atom is prepared in a coherent superposition of its two ground states initially. We propose to use this sensitivity for coherent fast and robust writing and reading of optical phase information. The initial preparation of the atom in the ``dark'' superposition state is suggested through the action of a sequence of a few frequency-chirped BLP's with duration longer than the atomic relaxation time.

Coherent population transfer and superposition of atomic states via stimulated Raman adiabatic passage using an excited-doublet four-level atom

Jin Shi-Qi, Shangqing Gong, Ruxin Li +1 more

Coherent population transfer and superposition of atomic states via a technique of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage in an excited-doublet four-level atomic system have been analyzed. It is shown that the behavior of adiabatic passage in this system depends crucially on the detunings between the laser frequencies and the corresponding atomic transition frequencies. Particularly, if both the fields are tuned to the center of the two upper levels, the four-level system has two degenerate dark states, although one of them contains the contribution from the excited atomic states. The nonadiabatic coupling of the two degenerate dark states is intrinsic, it originates from the energy difference of the two upper levels. An arbitrary superposition of atomic states can be prepared due to such nonadiabatic coupling effect.

High-fidelity composite adiabatic passage in nonlinear two-level systems

Fu-Quan Dou, Hui Cao, Jie Liu +1 more

We investigate the composite adiabatic passage (CAP) reported by B. T. Torosov et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 233001 (2011)] in a nonlinear two-level system in which the level energies depend on the occupation of the levels, representing a mean-field type of interaction between the particles. A high-fidelity, fast, and robust quantum manipulation is achieved in the system. We consider the effect of interparticle interaction and find that it tends to increase the number of the pulse sequences. The CAP technique can suppress the nonadiabatic oscillations below the quantum-information benchmark ${10}^{\ensuremath{-}4}$, as long as there exist sufficiently long composite sequences. We analyze the robustness against the variations in the field parameters. The difference between the nonlinear and linear systems on the CAP technique is also discussed.

Adiabatic passage in three levels closed-loop systems with chirped lasers pulses

Marius Romuald Kamsap, Maïk Delon Mboumba, M.E. Ateuafack +3 more

Abstract This study demonstrates complete adiabatic population transfer in a closed three-level atomic system using chirped laser pulses. By satisfying the three-photon resonance condition, we effectively mitigate the first-order Doppler effect. Under the assumption of weak coupling between the stable levels, we show that relative phase fluctuations of the lasers exert a negligible influence on the population dynamics during the transfer process. A comprehensive analysis of the system parameters is conducted to determine the optimal conditions for achieving 100% population transfer while minimizing the excited state population
