Abstract

We present the collective operator master equation for bosonic reservoirs with gaps in the density of photonic states. We show that the atom-photon bound state can be produced and controlled by the in-reservoir coherent field.

In-reservoir coherent control of an atom-photon bound state

Dmitri S. Mogilevtsev, S. Ya. Kilin, Solange Bessa Cavalcanti +1 more

In this work we show that the atom-photon bound state (APBS) in zero-temperature structured reservoir without an external excitation is always an entangled state of two qubits. The maximal degree of achievable entanglement depends on the atomic frequency detuning from the band edge. APBS can be produced and effectively controlled by the coherent excitation of the reservoir modes with frequencies outside the gap. The proposed scheme can be used for the single-atom optical memory device.

Robustness and coherent control of the atom-photon bound state

For the coherently controlled single-atom memory cell, a two-level atom with the transition frequency inside the gap and close to the gap edge is suggested. The atom-photon bound state (APBS) can be extensively controlled via available reservoir modes of unspoiled photonic crystal.

Coherent control of a photon-atom bound state outside the photonic band gap

Szu-Cheng Cheng, Jing-Nuo Wu, Wen Feng Hsien

We demonstrate a feasible scheme to control the spontaneous emission of a ladder-type atom in an anisotropic photonic crystal (PC). We find that the photo-atom bound state can be formed even for the frequencies of the driving laser and atomic levels lying outside the photonic-band gap. From this scheme we then resolved the control problem posted by the previous studies that the driving laser cannot freely couple with the atom.

Coherent control of a three-level atom in a photonic crystal

C. Roy

We demonstrate coherent control of the population and polarization of a two-level subsystem consisting of the two upper levels of a three-level atom in the V-configuration placed inside the structured reservoir of a photonic crystal. One of the excited state transition frequencies is located deep within the photonic band gap and the other transition is near the photonic band edge. Using the method of generalized-Laplace transforms, we study the population and polarization of the two-level subsystem of the three-level atom in the Born approximation without making the Markov approximation. The generalized-Laplace transform technique allows us to solve the Langevin equation for the operators and the correlation function of operators rather than the Schrodinger equations of motion. Coherent control of the population and the polarization dynamics of the two-level subsystem is demonstrated in the structured electromagnetic density of states of a photonic crystal. We demonstrate the tunability of the fractionalized steady-state population and the residual coherence in the photon–atom bound state by varying the Rabi frequency and the phase of the driving laser field.
