Abstract

Squeezing properties of fiber Sagnac interferometer consisting of 250 m 3M FS-PM78H fiber using a 1.5 ps pulse source at 1535 nm as a function of the splitting ratio is investigated. These results are compared to data, taken with a 150 fs pulse source, also operating at 1535 nm, and a Sagnac-loop consisting of 9.5 m of HB1500 fiber.

Generation of squeezed pulses with a Sagnac loop fiber interferometer using a non-soliton femtosecond laser pulse at 800 nm

Y. Fujiwara, Hisayuki Nakagome, Kenichi Hirosawa +1 more

We experimentally demonstrate generation of a squeezed vacuum at 800 nm with a Sagnac loop fiber interferometer. When negative dispersion is properly added to an input laser pulse to compensate for the fiber dispersion, the level of squeezing is improved. A squeezed vacuum of 0.45 dB is obtained at a dispersion of -0.0157 ps(2) for the 1.5 m-long fiber loop. Since the squeezed vacuum is degraded by guided acoustic-wave Brillouin scattering (GAWBS), the noise level of the squeezing is improved by -0.3 dB at a liquid nitrogen temperature. We also demonstrate generation of photon number squeezing at -1.3 dB.

Polarization squeezing of intense pulses with a fiber-optic Sagnac interferometer

J. Heersink, T. Gaber, Stefan Lorenz +3 more

We report on the generation of polarization squeezing of intense, short light pulses using an asymmetric fiber-optic Sagnac interferometer. The Kerr nonlinearity of the fiber is exploited to produce independent amplitude squeezed pulses. The polarization squeezing properties of spatially overlapped amplitude squeezed and coherent states are discussed. The experimental results for a single-amplitude squeezed beam are compared to the case of two phase-matched, spatially overlapped amplitude squeezed pulses. For the latter, noise variances of $\ensuremath{-}3.4\mathrm{dB}$ below shot noise in the ${S}_{0}$ and the ${S}_{1}$ and of $\ensuremath{-}2.8\mathrm{dB}$ in the ${S}_{2}$ Stokes parameters were observed, which is comparable to the input squeezing magnitude. Polarization squeezing, that is, squeezing relative to a corresponding polarization minimum uncertainty state, was generated in ${S}_{1}.$

Photon-Number Squeezed Solitons from an Asymmetric Fiber-Optic Sagnac Interferometer

Stefan Schmitt, Joachim Hans Ficker, Max Wolff +3 more

Direct photon-number squeezing is demonstrated, for the first time to our knowledge, in a nonlinear fiber-optic interferometer. Launching 126-fs solitons into a highly asymmetric Sagnac loop, the maximum photocurrent noise reduction was $3.9\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.2\mathrm{dB}$ below shot noise, corresponding to $6.0\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.9\mathrm{dB}$, when corrected for linear losses. The loop is a model system for squeezing generated by the interference of two pulses after nonlinear propagation through a fiber.

Generation of squeezed vacuum light pulse at non-soliton wavelength of 800 nm with a Sagnac loop fiber interferometer

Production of squeezed vacuum laser pulses at 800 nm is studied with a Sagnac fiber interferometer using a Ti:sapphire femtosecond laser. Excessive noise can be suppressed with shorter fiber lengths even with sub-picosecond laser pulses.

Soliton squeezing in a Mach-Zehnder fiber interferometer

Marco Fiorentino B, Jay E. Sharping, Prem Kumar +2 more

A scheme for generating amplitude squeezed light by means of soliton self-phase modulation is experimentally demonstrated. By injecting 180-fs pulses into an equivalent Mach-Zehnder fiber interferometer, a maximum noise reduction of $4.4\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.3$ dB is obtained $(6.3\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.6$ dB when corrected for losses). The dependence of noise reduction on the interferometer splitting ratio and fiber length is studied in detail.

Demonstration of a quantum-enhanced fiber Sagnac interferometer

Moritz Mehmet, T. Eberle, S. Steinlechner +2 more

The injection of squeezed light can be used to improve the sensitivity of an interferometer beyond the limit imposed by the zero-point fluctuation of the electromagnetic field. Here, we report on the realization of such a quantum-enhanced interferometer with a fiber-based Sagnac topology. Continuous wave squeezed states at 1550 nm with a noise reduction of 6.4 dB below shot noise were produced by type I optical parametric amplification and subsequently injected into the dark port of the interferometer. A reduction of the interferometer shot noise by 4.5 dB was observed, and the enhancement of the signal-to-noise ratio for a phase modulation signal generated within the interferometer could be demonstrated. We achieved a 95% fiber transmission for the squeezed states, which suggests that corresponding fiber-based quantum metrology and communication systems are feasible.
