Abstract

We derive finite-dimensional quantum mechanics from a single ontological principle, that \emph{existence is constituted by distinguishability}, together with two structural commitments: finite capacity $N$ (parametric input) and self-referential consistency (SRC, a closure schema with two equivalent forms, operational and information-theoretic). SRC unpacks into eight derived structural conditions; structural unambiguity (S5) completes the hierarchy, uniquely selecting the Born rule as the geometric/probabilistic closure. The graded distinguishability kernel $K(x,y) \in [0,1]$ realises both axioms, with a state constituted by its $K$-profile against all others. For each $N \geq 3$, the unique distinguishability space is $(\mathbb{C} P^{N-1}, K)$ with $K(ψ,φ) = 1 - |\langleψ|φ\rangle|^2$, from which complex coefficients, the Born rule $p_k = |c_k|^2$, unitary dynamics, and tensor-product composition all follow. Indeterminism is forced by capacity overflow; alternatives (e.g. Bohmian mechanics) are classified rather than refuted. Standard QM is the $N \to \infty$ limit; finite $N$ is the only free parameter. The algebraic spine is machine-checked in Lean 4 modulo five imported classical theorems and the existence direction of Stone's theorem; the Appendix states the verification scope.

Ontological Uniqueness of Quantum Mechanics:\\ A Pre-Quantum Classification Theorem

Guillermo C. Barraza

Title Ontological Uniqueness of Quantum Mechanics: A Pre-Quantum Classification Theorem Description This work addresses one of the most fundamental questions in theoretical physics: Why does nature employ quantum mechanical structure rather than alternative mathematical frameworks? We prove a rigorous classification theorem showing that quantum mechanics is not one possible theory among many, but the unique mathematical structure compatible with ontological continuity—the principle that "being cannot cease to be." Unlike previous approaches that either interpret quantum mechanics within its existing formalism (many-worlds, Bohmian mechanics) or derive it from operational measurement axioms (Gleason, Hardy, Chiribella-D'Ariano-Perinotti), this work operates at a pre-quantum logical level: we classify which geometric structures are ontologically admissible before introducing any quantum formalism. Main Result: Any theory satisfying minimal ontological requirements—continuity of being, compositional independence of subsystems, and reversibility of closed-system evolution—must describe the space of identity-classes as complex projective space ℂℙⁿ equipped with the Fubini–Study metric. Complex Hilbert space, unitary dynamics, the Schrödinger equation, and the Born rule emerge as necessary geometric consequences, not as postulates. Alternative structures (real or quaternionic projective spaces, non-homogeneous manifolds) are proven ontologically inadmissible through rigorous exclusion arguments. Key Contributions: Rigorous derivation showing that ontological composition forces a symplectic structure, which combined with homogeneity and isotropy uniquely determines Kähler geometry, selecting ℂℙⁿ as the only admissible space. Complete defense against circularity concerns, with detailed appendices showing that the axioms assume no quantum structure—they are purely ontological requirements for coherent continuous being. Systematic distinction from Gleason/Kochen-Specker theorems and operational axiomatizations, clarifying that this work classifies geometries before quantum mechanics, not constraints within it. Testable predictions in cosmology (Hubble tension resolution, matter fluctuation scaling) and quantum foundations (decoherence rates in molecular interferometry), while rigorously separating structural necessity from empirical determination. Significance: This work transforms quantum mechanics from an empirically successful but conceptually mysterious framework into an ontologically inevitable structure—comparable to Einstein's geometrization of gravity. It shows that quantum structure has no alternative: it is the only mathematical form compatible with coherent, continuous, compositional being. The manuscript includes comprehensive technical appendices with full geometric proofs, axiom justifications, and comparative analysis with existing foundational approaches. Suitable for researchers in quantum foundations, mathematical physics, philosophy of physics, and differential geometry. Document Status: Preprint submitted to Foundations of Physics (January 2026). Related Work: This work is part of the Law of Continuity of Being (LCS) research program, which derives physical and ethical structures from fundamental ontological principles. APF Paper 5 — Quantum Structure from Finite Enforceability

Ethan Brooke

Admissibility Physics — Quantum Structure from Finite Enforceability (Paper 5) This Zenodo community collects research outputs associated with Admissibility Physics, with primary focus on Paper 5 — Quantum Structure from Finite Enforceability and the derivation of quantum mechanics as an admissible representational regime. Paper 5 shows that the mathematical structure of quantum mechanics—Hilbert space, linearity, inner products, tensor products, unitary evolution, CPTP maps, and the Born rule—is not postulated, but forced by admissibility once coherent, jointly enforceable distinctions exist under finite correlation capacity. Quantum structure emerges as the unique bookkeeping required to represent interference, refinement, and recombination while preserving admissibility. The derivation does not assume probability, measurement postulates, dynamics, or spacetime geometry. Probability enters only as a secondary representation, with the Born rule arising uniquely from admissibility invariance and refinement consistency. Measurement is treated as a regime transition associated with saturation and record formation, not as a fundamental collapse mechanism. Quantum mechanics is shown to be conditionally valid: exact in regimes where coherence and non-saturation permit admissible composition, and structurally inapplicable where capacity is exhausted. Monogamy, entanglement limits, and decoherence follow from non-closure under composition and finite interface capacity, rather than from quantum axioms. All subsequent works in this community rely on the quantum-admissible representation established in Paper 5. Later papers show how variational dynamics and spacetime geometry arise as further conditional representations layered on top of quantum structure, and how quantum description itself fails at saturation boundaries, horizons, and measurement-like events. This community serves as a curated, citable archive centered on the derivation and limits of quantum structure within Admissibility Physics. Paper 5 functions as the representational keystone of the program: the point at which finite enforceability yields the quantum formalism without postulation. Core papers are frozen where noted; companion papers, mathematical appendices, figures, and computational artifacts document derivations, regime conditions, and testable consequences.

The Admissibility of Natural Physics Part 1

Christoforos Panagis

The Admissibility of Natural Physics, Part I begins where an admissibility-first reconstruction of single-system quantum mechanics ends. Its central question is not whether the familiar tensor-product formalism can be assumed, but whether any physical composition law can be derived without importing composite systems, global state spaces, entanglement, locality, or signalling as primitives. The book develops a disciplined reconstruction of binary quantum composition from operational and structural requirements. It first records the exact content and limitations of the inherited single-system closure, establishes dependency and non-circularity statutes, and introduces the possible object of natural physics only as a provisional target ledger rather than as an assumed ontology. It then examines joint preparation, product states and effects, marginal consistency, operational no-signalling, minimal and maximal probabilistic composites, local tomography, and the classification of admissible tensor-product representations. Particular attention is given to the distinction between a mathematical representation theorem and the uniqueness of a physical composition rule. Real, complex, quaternionic, Jordan-algebraic, minimal, maximal, restricted, and non-tomographic alternatives are compared under explicitly declared admissibility conditions. The complex Hilbert-space tensor product is recovered only on branches satisfying the required factorization, coherence, scalar, and operational closure conditions. Where several inequivalent composites survive, the result is a classified family rather than a falsely asserted uniqueness theorem. Entanglement is introduced only after composition has been commissioned. It is defined as the failure of an admitted joint state to belong to the convex closure of admitted product preparations. The analysis proves, within the resulting predictive grammar, that entanglement is a property of composite-state geometry, not an additional force, substance, interaction mechanism, or signalling channel. Throughout, the argument enforces quotient primacy, refinement stability, finite diagnostic closure, regeneration stability, explicit dependency receipts, local termination, and the possibility of Undefined as a legitimate scientific outcome. Part I therefore supplies neither a speculative ontology nor a presupposed many-world formalism. It provides a conditional classification theorem for binary physical composition and identifies precisely what remains to be established before interaction, repeated composition, particle identity, locality, fields, symmetries, and particle content may be addressed.

Title: Formal Supplement: End-to-End Derivation from Finite Enforcement Capacity to Quantum Structure Authors: Brooke, E. S. Description: Self-contained formal supplement to "The Enforceability of Distinction: Quantum Structure from Finite Enforcement Capacity" (Paper 1 of the Admissibility Physics Framework series). Derives finite-dimensional quantum mechanical structure — Hilbert space, C*-algebra, Born rule, Tsirelson bound, no-broadcasting — from a single resource-theoretic axiom (A1: finite enforcement capacity), one regularity condition (MD: uniform per-test cost floor), one richness premise (BW: budget-window triple), and constitutive admissibility semantics (SP, K3, FD1–FD6). The derivation proceeds in three tiers. The core chain (A1 + MD + BW + constitutive semantics) produces: a finite-dimensional real vector space with sector decomposition, a sector-orthogonal bilinear form forced by disjoint-support additivity (K3), self-adjoint enforcement projections, superadditive joint enforcement costs, a noncommutative real *-algebra, Wedderburn–Artin block decomposition, a GNS Hilbert-space representation, and a faithful positive state constructed from enforcement data. Field selection excludes real nonclassical blocks via state-separation completeness (T2c.1, single-interface, proved) and quaternionic blocks via composition closure (T2c.2, multi-interface, conditional). Standard quantum corollaries — Born rule (via Busch's generalized Gleason theorem), Tsirelson bound (via the Cirel'son identity), monogamy, and no-broadcasting — follow within the derived algebraic skeleton. Key features: (1) explicit variational framework for joint enforcement, including admissible defender class, projection reduction lemma, Grassmannian existence proof, and a theorem that all optimal joint defenders have nontrivial pool support when the superadditivity surplus is positive; (2) formal equivalence between nontrivial pool-supported joint threats, superadditive enforcement cost, and algebraic noncommutativity; (3) a fully explicit 11-step qubit model computing every quantity from enforcement costs through Born probabilities; (4) named support-recruitment monotonicity principle (SRM) separating structural from physical selection of orthogonal projections; (5) explicit computable stability thresholds for Wedderburn block structure and field type under approximate disjoint-support additivity; (6) front-matter tables classifying every result as unconditional, conditional, or dependent on external theorems. 71 pages. A Rigorous Derivation of All Core Postulates of Quantum Mechanics from the Single Axiom of Binary Distinction

Xiaoqing Ou

This paper provides a rigorous derivation of all core postulates of quantum mechanics from a single axiom: the existence of binary distinction. No prior assumptions—Hilbert space, wave function, probability amplitude, or unitary evolution—are introduced as external inputs. The derivation proceeds in six chapters: Chapter 1 establishes the axiom of binary distinction and proves that the imaginary unit i is the algebraic necessity of iterative distinction operations: Δ applied twice equals a reversal (-1), therefore one distinction corresponds to multiplication by i. Chapter 2 demonstrates that complex probability amplitudes are the unique algebraic carriers of the binary split between confirmed information (real part) and concealed information (imaginary part). Chapter 3 proves the Born rule as the unique solution to information deviation minimization under truncation constraints—the squared modulus is the sole functional form compatible with positivity, normalization, and classical-degenerate compatibility. Chapter 4 derives unitary evolution as the traversal of all indistinguishable paths during the suspension interval between confirmation operations. Schr\"{o}dinger's equation emerges as the differential limit of this traversal under modular flow. Chapter 5 establishes that measurement collapse is not a mysterious nonunitary process but the re-execution of the confirmation operation, projecting the suspended superposition onto a single confirmed eigenstate. The collapse probability is identical to the Born rule derived in Chapter 3. Chapter 6 demonstrates that quantum entanglement is the split-window projection of a shared confirmation projector—two entangled particles share the same confirmation projection in the full-dimensional information field, and spatial separation is merely the appearance of local windows in the observable domain. Bell inequality violation follows directly from the non-homomorphic property of the truncation projection. The entire formalism emerges without fitting parameters, without interpretation debates, and without external physical assumptions. Quantum mechanics is thus revealed not as the fundamental language of the universe, but as the inevitable cognitive structure of any finite observer executing information confirmation and truncation on the full-dimensional information field. All conclusions are strictly demarcated by a "boundary of honesty," distinguishing logically necessary deductions from directional inferences requiring further mathematical hardening.

Classification of all alternatives to the Born rule in terms of informational properties

Galley, TD, Lluís Masanes

The standard postulates of quantum theory can be divided into two groups: the first one characterizes the structure and dynamics of pure states, while the second one specifies the structure of measurements and the corresponding probabilities. In this work we keep the first group of postulates and characterize all alternatives to the second group that give rise to finite-dimensional sets of mixed states. We prove a correspondence between all these alternatives and a class of representations of the unitary group. Some features of these probabilistic theories are identical to quantum theory, but there are important differences in others. For example, some theories have three perfectly distinguishable states in a two-dimensional Hilbert space. Others have exotic properties such as lack of "bit symmetry", the violation of "no simultaneous encoding" (a property similar to information causality) and the existence of maximal measurements without phase groups. We also analyze which of these properties single out the Born rule.

We derive finite-dimensional quantum mechanics from a single ontological principle, that \emph{existence is constituted by distinguishability}, together with two structural commitments: finite capacity NNN (parametric input) and self-referential consistency (SRC, a closure schema with two equivalent forms, operational and information-theoretic). SRC unpacks into eight derived structural conditions; structural unambiguity (S5) completes the hierarchy, uniquely selecting the Born rule as the geometric/probabilistic closure. The graded distinguishability kernel K(x,y)∈[0,1]K(x,y) \in [0,1]K(x,y)∈[0,1] realises both axioms, with a state constituted by its KKK-profile against all others. For each N≥3N \geq 3N≥3, the unique distinguishability space is (CPN−1,K)(\mathbb{C} P^{N-1}, K)(CPN−1,K) with K(ψ,φ)=1−∣⟨ψ∣φ⟩∣2K(ψ,φ) = 1 - |\langleψ|φ\rangle|^2K(ψ,φ)=1−∣⟨ψ∣φ⟩∣2, from which complex coefficients, the Born rule pk=∣ck∣2p_k = |c_k|^2pk=∣ck∣2, unitary dynamics, and tensor-product composition all follow. Indeterminism is forced by capacity overflow; alternatives (e.g. Bohmian mechanics) are classified rather than refuted. Standard QM is the N→∞N \to \inftyN→∞ limit; finite NNN is the only free parameter. The algebraic spine is machine-checked in Lean 4 modulo five imported classical theorems and the existence direction of Stone's theorem; the Appendix states the verification scope.
