Abstract

With the rapid development of quantum science and technology, quantum batteries have also emerged. However, there are still many unresolved issues in the field of quantum batteries. For example, how to improve battery space utilization, maximize battery energy storage, and how to increase and control the charging power of quantum batteries. A major challenge is how to achieve better charging power without reducing the energy storage of the quantum batteries. Here, we propose a controllable dual-cavity quantum battery which can increase the charging power without diminishing capacity of the quantum batteries by manipulating the number of atoms . This control method can effectively adjust the charging power of quantum batteries from $N^2$ times to $N^2.5$ times, and even to $N^3$ times. By adjusting the number of atoms, quantum batteries can achieve theoretical "fast charging" and "slow charging".

Unique quantum advantages by manipulation of atoms in quantum batteries

Dayang Zhang, Shuangquan Ma, Youbin Yu +2 more

The advent of quantum batteries (QBs) has coincided with the accelerated progress in quantum science and technology. Here, we propose a novel double-cavity QB design, wherein the maximum charging power can be enhanced to ${N}^{2.5}$ times or even higher, up to ${N}^{3}$ times, through the manipulation of atomic distribution, which surpasses the upper limit of ${N}^{2}$ reported in previous study. The advantage of this manipulation is pronounced with an increasing number of atoms in the QB. A significant atom number discrepancy between the two cavities results in the simultaneous optimization of charging power and battery capacity, thereby enhancing charging efficiency without compromising energy storage capacity. Additionally, by modulating the number of atoms within each cavity, the QB is theoretically capable of transitioning between ``fast charging'' and ``slow charging'' modes. Notably, in an open system environment, the superiority of the QB is even more pronounced, with negligible energy loss at the final steady state relative to the maximum energy storage of an isolated system.

Closed-loop three-level charged quantum battery

Fu-Quan Dou, Yuan‐Jin Wang, Jianan Sun

Quantum batteries are energy storage or extraction devices in a quantum system. Here, we present a closed-loop quantum battery by utilizing a circularly coupled three-state quantum system, and investigate its charging dynamics. The charging performance is greatly improved due to the existence of the third field in the system to form a closed-contour interaction. Through appropriately selecting the third control field, the maximum average power can be increased, even far beyond the ideal maximum power value of non-closed-loop three-level quantum battery. We study the effect of the global driving-field phase on the charging process and find that both the maximum extractable work (“ergotropy”) and the charging power vary periodically under different control fields, with a period of . Possible experimental implementation in nitrogen-vacancy spin is discussed as well.

Quantum Battery Based on Hybrid Field Charging

Yunxiu Jiang, Tianhao Chen, Chu Xiao +4 more

A quantum battery consisting of an ensemble two-level atom is investigated. The battery is charged simultaneously by a harmonic field and an electrostatic field. The results show that the hybrid charging is superior to the previous case of only harmonic field charging in terms of battery capacity and charging power, regardless of whether the interaction between atoms is considered or not. In addition, the repulsive interaction between atoms will increase the battery capacity and charging power, while the attractive interaction between atoms will reduce the battery capacity and discharge power.

Enhancing the efficiency of open quantum batteries via adjusting the classical driving field

Maryam Hadipour, Soroush Haseli

In the context of quantum information, a quantum battery refers to a system composed of quantum particles that can store and release energy in a way that is governed by the principles of quantum mechanics. The study of open quantum batteries is motivated by the fact that real-world quantum systems are almost never perfectly isolated from their environment. One important challenge in the study of open quantum batteries is to develop theoretical models that accurately capture the complex interactions between the battery and its environment. the goal of studying open quantum batteries is to develop practical methods for building and operating quantum devices that can store and release energy with high efficiency and reliability, even in the presence of environmental noise and other sources of decoherence. The charging process of open quantum batteries under the influence of dissipative environment will be studied. In this Work, the effect of the classical driving field on the charging process of open quantum batteries will be investigated. The classical driving field can be used to manipulate the charging and discharging process of the battery, leading to enhanced performance and improved efficiency. It also will be showed that the efficiency of open quantum batteries depends on detuning between the qubit and the classical driving field and central frequency of the cavity and the classical driving field.
