Abstract

We formulate an analytical recursive method to generate the wave function of doped short-range resonating valence bond (RVB) states as a tool to efficiently estimate multisite entanglement as well as other physical quantities in doped quantum spin ladders. We prove that doped RVB ladder states are always genuine multipartite entangled. Importantly, our results show that within specific doping concentration and model parameter regimes, the doped RVB state essentially characterizes the trends of genuine multiparty entanglement in the exact ground states of the Hubbard model with large on-site interactions, in the limit that yields the $t\text{\ensuremath{-}}J$ Hamiltonian.

Genuine multipartite entanglement in superconducting phases of doped quantum spin ladders

Sudipto Singha Roy, Himadri Shekhar Dhar, Debraj Rakshit +2 more

We investigate the trends of genuine multipartite entanglement of high-temperature superconducting states, usually described by doping the Mott insulator. We begin by analyzing the ground states of a Hubbard model with large onsite interactions obtained by exact diagonalization in regimes where the superconducting phase is observed for relatively high doping. The ground states are observed to be genuine multipartite entangled, with the maximum value achieved close to the superconducting phase boundary. Subsequently, for finite hole doping, the short-range resonating valence bond (RVB) state is considered to be the ground state of the Hubbard model. We prove that doped RVB ladder states are always genuine multipartite entangled. We then formulate an analytical recursion method for the wave function, which allows us to efficiently estimate the entanglement as well as other physical quantities in large doped RVB ladders. The maximum genuine multipartite entanglement in these RVB states is observed at doping corresponding to the superconducting phase of the Hubbard model.

Fibonacci sequences and valence bond entanglement entropy in doped quantum spin ladders

Sudipto Singha Roy, Himadri Shekhar Dhar, Aditi Sen De +1 more

An interesting aspect of antiferromagnetic quantum spin ladders, with complete dimer coverings, is that the wave function can be recursively generated by estimating the number of coverings in the valence bond basis, which follow the fabled Fibonacci sequence. In this work, we show that generalized forms of such sequences can also be derived for multi-legged and doped quantum spin ladders, which allows the corresponding dimer covered state to be recursively generated. This simplifies the investigation and estimation of several important quantities in these many-body quantum systems. In particular, we show that the valence bond entanglement entropy, which is a substantial figure of merit for understanding critical behavior, can be conveniently derived for large spin ladders.

Resonating-valence-bond superconductors with fermionic projected entangled pair states

Didier Poilblanc, Philippe Corboz, Norbert Schuch +1 more

We construct a family of simple fermionic projected entangled pair states (fPEPS) on the square lattice with bond dimension $D=3$ which are exactly hole-doped resonating valence bond (RVB) wave functions with short-range singlet bonds. Under doping the insulating RVB spin liquid evolves immediately into a superconductor with mixed $d+is$ pairing symmetry whose pair amplitude grows as the square root of the doping. The relative weight between $s$-wave and $d$-wave components can be controlled by a single variational parameter $c$. We optimize our ansatz with respect to $c$ for the frustrated $t\text{\ensuremath{-}}{J}_{1}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{J}_{2}$ model (including both nearest and next-nearest neighbor antiferromagnetic interactions ${J}_{1}$ and ${J}_{2}$, respectively) for ${J}_{2}\ensuremath{\simeq}{J}_{1}/2$ and obtain an energy very close to the infinite-PEPS state (using full update optimization and same bond dimension). The orbital symmetry of the optimized RVB superconductor has predominant $d$-wave character, although we argue a residual (complex $s$-wave) time reversal symmetry breaking component should always be present. Connections of the results to the physics of superconducting cuprates and pnictides are outlined.

The inseparability of resonating valence bond and on-site pairing long-range orders in doped Hubbard models

Guang-Shan Tian

The concept of the resonating valence bond (RVB) state was originally proposed by Anderson (1987) for the ground state of the positive-U Hubbard model. However, the on-site pairing long-range order is expected to exist in the ground state of the negative-U Hubbard model and to be incompatible with the RVB order. In this article, we shall rigorously prove that, in fact, these two long-range orderings either coexist or are suppressed simultaneously in the global ground states of the doped Hubbard models.

Two-leg t−J ladder: A mean-field description

Y. L. Lee, Y. W. Lee, Chung‐Yu Mou +1 more

Two-leg $t\ensuremath{-}J$ ladders are investigated in the framework of a combination of the phase string formulation and bond-operator representation. We develop a mean-field theory in the strong rung interaction regime, i.e., ${J}_{\ensuremath{\perp}}\ensuremath{\gg}J,t,$ which provides a unified description of the undoped insulating phase and the low-doping phase---the so-called $C1S0$ phase. Both of them are characterized by the resonating-valence-bond (RVB) order parameter, with gap opened up in all spin excitations. The ground state of the doped phase is intrinsically a superconductor with a d-wave symmetry, which is driven by the RVB correlations. The ground-state energy is in good agreement with numerical results. Phase separation is shown to occur beyond some critical value of $J/t$ for given doping concentration. The local structure of hole pairs as well as the spectra of various spin and charge modes are analyzed in comparison with other approaches.

The density matrix recursion method: genuine multisite entanglement distinguishes odd from even quantum spin ladder states

Himadri Shekhar Dhar, Aditi Sen(De), Ujjwal Sen

We introduce an analytical iterative method, the density matrix recursion method, to generate arbitrary reduced density matrices of superpositions of short-range dimer coverings on periodic or non-periodic quantum spin-1/2 ladder lattices, with an arbitrary number of legs. The method can be used to calculate bipartite as well as multipartite physical properties, including bipartite and multi-partite entanglement. We apply this technique to distinguish between even- and odd-legged ladders. Specifically, we show that while genuine multi-partite entanglement decreases with increasing system size for the even-legged ladder states, it does the opposite for odd-legged ones.
