Abstract

The value of the internal energy per spin is independent of the strip width for a certain class of spin systems on two-dimensional infinite strips. It is verified that the Ising model on the kagome lattice belongs to this class through an exact transfer-matrix calculation of the internal energy for the two smallest widths. More generally, one can suggest an upper bound for the critical coupling strength K(c)(q) for the q-state Potts model from exact calculations of the internal energy for the two smallest strip widths. Combining this with the corresponding calculation for the dual lattice and using an exact duality relation enables us to conjecture the critical coupling strengths for the three- and four-state Potts models on the kagome lattice. The values are K(c)(q=3)=1.0565094269290 and K(c)(q=4)=1.1493605872292, and the values can, in principle, be obtained to an arbitrary precision. We discuss the fact that these values are in the middle of earlier approximate results and furthermore differ from earlier conjectures for the exact values.

Internal energy density of the critical three-state Potts model on the kagome lattice

Seung Ki Baek, Harri Mäkelä

The internal energy density of the Potts model on a semi-infinite strip with a width L has been conjectured to have no finite-size corrections at the critical point K = K c . By factorizing the transfer matrix for the kagome lattice with larger widths, we have found that this conjecture is not correct in that the internal energy density varies slightly with L at the critical point. From this size dependence of the internal energy density, we obtain an upper bound as K c < 1.0565615, which is close to a recent estimate K JS = 1.0565600(7) by Jacobsen and Scullard [J. Phys. A 45, 494003 (2012)]. We also obtain a lower bound as K c > 1.0560 by calculating the correlation length along the strips.

Double potts chain and exact results for some two-dimensional spin models

M. A. Yurishchev

An exact analytical solution for the q -state Potts model on a 2×∞ ladder with arbitrary two-, three-, and four-site interactions in a unit cell in presented is a closed form. This solution is used to show that the finite-size internal energy equation [6] yields an accurate value of the critical temperature for the triangular Potts lattice with three-site interactions in alternate triangular faces. It is argued that the above equation is exact at least for self-dual models on isotopic strips.

Calculation of the Critical Temperature for 2- and 3-Dimensional Ising Models and for 2-Dimensional Potts Models Using the Transfer Matrix Method

Mehrdad Ghaemi, Gholamabbas Parsafar, Mahmud Ashrafizaadeh

A new graphical method is developed to calculate the critical temperature of 2- and 3-dimensional Ising models as well as that of the 2-dimensional Potts models. This method is based on the transfer matrix method and using the limited lattice for the calculation. The reduced internal energy per site has been accurately calculated for different 2-D Ising and Potts models using different size-limited lattices. All calculated energies intersect at a single point when plotted versus the reduced temperature. The reduced temperature at the intersection is 0.4407, 0.2746, and 0.6585 for the square, triangular, and honeycombs Ising lattices and 1.0050, 0.6309, and 1.4848 for the square, triangular, and honeycombs Potts lattices, respectively. These values are exactly the same as the critical temperatures reported in the literature, except for the honeycomb Potts lattice. For the two-dimensional Ising model, we have shown that the existence of such an intersection point is due to the duality relation. The method is then extended to the simple cubic Ising model, in which the intersection point is found to be dependent on the lattice sizes. We have found a linear relation between the lattice size and the intersection point. This relation is used to obtain the critical temperature of the unlimited simple cubic lattice. The obtained result, 0.221(2), is in a good agreement with the accurate value of 0.22165 reported by others.

Critical Temperature of the Three-Vertex Potts Model on a Kagome Lattice

Albert Babaevich Babaev, Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev

Abstract The Potts model on a Kagome lattice is considered. The Monte Carlo method is used to obtain the temperature dependences of the thermodynamic parameters: heat capacity C, order parameter m, and susceptibility χ. The calculations were performed for systems with periodic boundary conditions. Systems with linear dimensions L × L = N, L = 20–90, were considered. Based on the fourth-order Binder cumulant method, the critical temperature (Tc) was calculated for the three-vertex Potts model on a Kagome lattice. It is shown that the obtained value of Tc, within the statistical error, is in good agreement with the results obtained by the transfer matrix and polynomial approximation methods.

Critical frontier of the Potts and percolation models on triangular-type and kagome-type lattices. II. Numerical analysis

Chengxiang Ding, Zhe Fu, Wenan Guo +1 more

In the preceding paper, one of us (F. Y. Wu) considered the Potts model and bond and site percolation on two general classes of two-dimensional lattices, the triangular-type and kagome-type lattices, and obtained closed-form expressions for the critical frontier with applications to various lattice models. For the triangular-type lattices Wu's result is exact, and for the kagome-type lattices Wu's expression is under a homogeneity assumption. The purpose of the present paper is twofold: First, an essential step in Wu's analysis is the derivation of lattice-dependent constants A,B,C for various lattice models, a process which can be tedious. We present here a derivation of these constants for subnet networks using a computer algorithm. Second, by means of a finite-size scaling analysis based on numerical transfer matrix calculations, we deduce critical properties and critical thresholds of various models and assess the accuracy of the homogeneity assumption. Specifically, we analyze the q -state Potts model and the bond percolation on the 3-12 and kagome-type subnet lattices (n×n):(n×n) , n≤4 , for which the exact solution is not known. Our numerical determination of critical properties such as conformal anomaly and magnetic correlation length verifies that the universality principle holds. To calibrate the accuracy of the finite-size procedure, we apply the same numerical analysis to models for which the exact critical frontiers are known. The comparison of numerical and exact results shows that our numerical values are correct within errors of our finite-size analysis, which correspond to 7 or 8 significant digits. This in turn infers that the homogeneity assumption determines critical frontiers with an accuracy of 5 decimal places or higher. Finally, we also obtained the exact percolation thresholds for site percolation on kagome-type subnet lattices (1×1):(n×n) for 1≤n≤6 .

Critical properties of high-spin Ising models on anisotropic lattices

M. A. Yurishchev

The coordinates of the critical points of spin-S Ising models with coupling constants J and J′ are calculated for 1/2 ≤ S ≤ 13/2. The calculations are performed for several values of S and Δ ≡ J′/J independently by using the phenomenological renormalization-group method or (approximate) self-duality. Numerical results combined with a mean-field analysis show that the critical coupling strength for Δ ∼ 1 (weakly anisotropic lattice) is K c () (Δ) = K c () (1)[1 + a(1 − Δ)], where a = (d − 1)/d is independent of S (d is the space dimension). Both free energy and internal energy are determined at the critical points. An extremum of the critical internal energy is found at Δ* ∈ (0, 1). The parameter Δ* can be used as a criterion that separates quasi-isotropic and quasi-one-dimensional regimes (Δ* < Δ ≤ 1 and Δ < Δ*, respectively). The finite-size scaling amplitudes A s and A e of the inverse spin-spin and energy-energy correlation lengths are estimated. Calculations show that the amplitudes A s and A e are independent of S within the accuracy of the adopted approximations. Moreover, their ratio A e/A s is independent of the anisotropy parameter Δ. These results support the Ising universality hypothesis.
