Abstract

We derive analytical formulas for the forward emission and side emission spectra of cavity-modified single-photon sources, as well as the corresponding normal-mode oscillations in the cavity quantum electrodynamics strong-coupling regime. We investigate the effects of pure dephasing, treated in the phase-diffusion model based on a Wiener-Levy process, on the emission spectra and normal-mode oscillations. We also extend our previous calculation of quantum efficiency to include the pure dephasing process. All results are obtained in the Weisskopf-Wigner approximation for an impulse-excited emitter. We find that the spectra are broadened, the depths of the normal-mode oscillations are reduced and the quantum efficiency is decreased in the presence of pure dephasing.

Quantum efficiency of single-photon sources in the cavity-QED strong-coupling regime

Guoqiang Cui, Michael G. Raymer

We calculate the integrated-pulse quantum efficiency of single-photon sources in the cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) strong-coupling regime. An analytical expression for the quantum efficiency is obtained in the Weisskopf-Wigner approximation. Optimal conditions for a high quantum efficiency and a temporally localized photon emission rate are examined. We show the condition under which the earlier result of Law and Kimble [J. Mod. Opt. 44, 2067 (1997)] can be used as the first approximation to our result.

Pure emitter dephasing: A resource for advanced solid-state single-photon sources

Alexia Auffèves, Jean‐Michel Gérard, J.-Ph. Poizat

We have computed the spectrum emitted spontaneously by a quantum dot coupled to an arbitrarily detuned single mode cavity, taking into account pure dephasing processes. We show that if the emitter is incoherent, the cavity can efficiently emit photons with its own spectral characteristics. This effect opens unique opportunities for the development of devices exploiting both cavity quantum electrodynamic effects and pure dephasing, such as wavelength-stabilized single-photon sources robust against spectral diffusion.

Characteristics of Pure Dephasing on Non-resonant Quantum Dot-cavity Coupling System and its Application Prospect

陈翔 Chen Xiang, 米贤武 MI Xian-wu

The quantum dot-cavity system was investigated using a quantum master equation that took incoherent pumping, stimulated emission and pure dephasing into consideration, and analytical emission spectra at cavity and dot were presented. The theoretical analysis results show that the pure dephasing shifts the emission intensity towards the cavity frequency in non-resonant coupling system and thus can be a very good explanation of the non-resonantly coupled cavity effective emission effect. In order to further study the application of pure dephasing in the quantum dot-cavity coupled systems, the effective quantum dot-cavity coupling rate and the efficiency of the single photon source for detuned systems were introduced, and good cavity and bad ragime were able to be defined through comparing the effective quantum dot-cavity coupling rate and the cavity decay rate.Influence of the pure dephasing on the efective coupling rate and the efficiency of the single photon source were investigated in resonance and detuning selected two set of theoretical parameters according to the experimental data. The results show that the pure dephasing can increase the efftive quantum dot-cavity coupling and the efficiency of single photon source for detuned system and thus may make a transition from bad cavity to good cavity ragime;a set of parameters having larger coupling efficiency in a certain range can meet good cavity ragime that its single photon sources efficiency is obviously better than the other set.Compared with bad cavity regime laser in non-resonant coupling system, the good cavity regime is a necessary condition to achieve single quantum dot lasers;the Fano function shows no evidence of a maximum in the non-resonant coupling system and thus there is no laser threshold in this system.

Controlling the dynamics of a coupled atom-cavity system by pure dephasing

Alexia Auffèves, Dario Gerace, Jean‐Michel Gérard +3 more

The influence of pure dephasing on the dynamics of the coupling between a two-level atom and a cavity mode is systematically addressed. We have derived an effective atom-cavity coupling rate that is shown to be a key parameter in the physics of the problem, allowing to generalize the known expression for the Purcell factor to the case of broad emitters, and to define strategies to optimize the performances of broad emitter-based single-photon sources. Moreover, pure dephasing is shown to be able to restore lasing in presence of detuning, a further demonstration that decoherence can be seen as a fundamental resource in solid-state cavity quantum electrodynamics, offering appealing perspectives in the context of advanced nanophotonic devices. We propose experimental strategies to develop a versatile device that can be operated either as a single-photon source or as a laser, based on the control by decoherence of the coupling between a single quantum dot and a solid-state cavity.

Nonlinear photoluminescence spectra from a quantum-dot–cavity system: Interplay of pump-induced stimulated emission and anharmonic cavity QED

Peijun Yao, Pradyumna K. Pathak, E. Illes +9 more

We investigate the power-dependent photoluminescence spectra from a strongly coupled quantum dot-cavity system using a quantum master equation technique that accounts for incoherent pumping, stimulated emission, pure dephasing, and fermion or boson statistics. Analytical spectra at the one-photon correlation level and the numerically exact multiphoton spectra for fermions are presented. Master equation models that neglect stimulated emission processes are shown to lead to unphysical predictions at high powers, such as negative mean photon numbers. We compare to recent experiments on a quantum dot-micropillar cavity system and show that an excellent fit to the data can be obtained by varying only the incoherent pump rates in direct correspondence with the experiments. Our theory and experiments together show convincing evidence for stimulated-emission induced broadening and anharmonic cavity quantum electrodynamics.
