Abstract

We derive an explicit formula for an entanglement measure of mixed quantum states in a multi-level atom interacting with a cavity field within the framework of the quantum mutual entropy. We describe its theoretical basis and discuss its practical relevance (especially in comparison with already known pure state results). The effect of the number of levels involved on the entanglement is demonstrated via examples of three-, four- and five-level atom. Numerical calculations under current experimental conditions are performed and it is found that the number of levels present changes the general features of entanglement dramatically.

WEHRL ENTROPY OF A MIXED STATE THREE-LEVEL ATOM INTERACTING WITH A CAVITY FIELD

S. Abdel‐Khalek, Y. Hassouni, Mahmoud Abdel‐Aty

In this paper, the Wehrl entropy approach is discussed and compared with the quantum entanglement using a mixed-state three-level atom interacting with a cavity field. In the pure state case, the behavior of the atomic Wehrl entropy shows the same behavior of the entanglement due to the von-Neumann entropy, while the mixed state case gives the total correlation due to quantum mutual entropy. If the system is in an entangled state, the formalism can be used to quantify the entanglement as well as the total correlations.

We study the field entropy squeezing as a measure of the entanglement in a three-level system interacting with a cavity field. Numerical calculations under cur- rent experimental conditions are performed and it is found that the initial state setting and atom-field coupling present changes of the general features of the field entropy squeezing dramatically.

Mixed-state entanglement of a three-level system with an intensity-dependent interaction

Mahmoud Abdel‐Aty

In this communication, the entanglement degree due to quasi-mutual entropy of a three-level atom interacting with a single cavity field is investigated. We consider the situation for which the three-level system is initially in a mixed state, whereas the field may start from either a coherent or a squeezed state. We present a derivation of the unitary evolution operator on the basis of the dressed-state formalism taking into account an arbitrary form of nonlinearity of the intensity-dependent coupling, by means of which we identify and numerically demonstrate the region of parameters where significantly large entanglement can be obtained. Most interestingly, it is shown that features of the degree of entanglement are influenced significantly by different forms of the nonlinearity. The atom and radiation subsystems exhibit alternating sets of collapses and revivals due to the initially mixed states of the atom and radiation employed here.

Dynamics of quantum correlations and linear entropy in a multi-qubit-cavity system

Alexandra Olaya-Castro, Neil F. Johnson, Luis Quiroga

We present a theoretical study of the relationship between entanglement and entropy in multi-qubit quantum optical systems. Specifically we investigate quantitative relations between the concurrence and linear entropy for a two-qubit mixed system, implemented as two two-level atoms interacting with a single-mode cavity field. The dynamical evolutions of the entanglement and entropy are controlled via time-dependent cavity–atom couplings. Our theoretical findings lead us to propose an alternative measure of entanglement, which could be used to develop a much needed correlation measure for more general multi-partite quantum systems.

Entanglement of an arbitrary state of the two identical two-level atoms simultaneously interacting with vacuum cavity field

Liu Xiao-juan

It's investigated that the entanglement of an arbitrary state between the two identical two-level atoms simultaneously interacting with vacuum cavity field by using negative quantum condition entropy. It's discussed that the influence of the initial states of system considered on the evolution of entanglement between the two atoms and compare the results of condition entropy of entanglement with those of entanglement between the two-atoms based on the concurrence. The results show that the negative quantum conditional entropy can be regarded as a entanglement measure of an arbitrary states of the two identical two-level atoms with simple calculated analytically.2figs.,12refs.

Evolution of Atomic Entanglement for Different Cavity-Field Statistics in Single-Mode Two-Photon Process

Sudha Singh, Karuna Gilhare

We study the evolution of entanglement for a pair of two-level Rydberg atoms passing one after another into an ideal cavity filled with a single mode radiation field. The atoms interact with the cavity field via two-photon transitions. The initial joint state of two atoms that enter the cavity one after the other is unentangled. Interactions intervened by the single mode cavity photon field brings out the final two-atom mixed entangled type state. We use the well known measure appropriate for the mixed states, i.e. the entanglement of formation to quantify the entanglement. We calculate the entanglement of formation of the joint two-atom state as a function of the Rabi angle, for the Fock state field, coherent field and thermal field respectively inside the cavity. The change in the magnitude of atomic entanglement with cavity photon number has been discussed.
