Abstract

We report correlation and cross-correlation measurements of photons emitted under continuous wave excitation by a single II–VI quantum dot (QD) grown by molecular-beam epitaxy. A standard technique of microphotoluminescence combined with an ultrafast photon correlation setup allowed us to see an antibunching effect on photons emitted by excitons recombining in a single CdTe∕ZnTe QD, as well as cross correlation within the biexciton (X2)-exciton (X) radiative cascade from the same dot. Fast microchannel plate photomultipliers and a time-correlated single photon module gave us an overall temporal resolution of 140ps better than the typical exciton lifetime in II–VI QDs of about 250ps.

We report correlation and cross-correlation continuous wave measurements in II-VI quantum dots grown by molecular beam epitaxy.Combination of spectral selection, saturation measurements and good temporal resolution allowed us to see an antibunching effect on photons from radiative recombination of excitons in a single CdTe/ZnTe quantum dot, as well as cross-correlation within the biexciton (X2)-exciton (X) radiative cascade from the same dot.We discuss the results of our experiments in terms of a model of excitonic multitransitions.

Photon correlation spectroscopy of a single quantum dot

We report photon correlation measurements that reveal unique signatures of biexciton and charged exciton emissions in a single self-assembled InAs quantum dot. Biexciton emission exhibits both bunching and antibunching under continuous-wave excitation and only antibunching under pulsed excitation. Cross correlation between biexciton and single-exciton emissions reveals highly asymmetric features due to cascaded emission. Under our excitation conditions, no polarization correlations between the exciton and biexciton emissions were observed.

Correlation measurement of quantum cascade photons in single InAs quantum dot

Single InAs quantum dot (QD) sample was grown by molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE). The Photoluminescences (PL) of the exciton and biexciton in a single QD were measured at 5 K. The PL intensity as a function of the laser excitation power, the fine structure splittings of the exciton and biexciton, and the corresponding linearly polarized emissions were analyzed. By means of Hanbury-Brown and Twiss (HBT) setup, the photon correlation between the PL of exciton and biexciton were measured, which is gave an evidence of the quantum cascade emissions between biexciton and exciton PL.

Correlation of Exciton and Biexciton from a Single InAs Quantum Dot

The peaks of exciton and biexciton from the single quantum dot (QD) micro-photoluminescence spectra are identified by observing the intensity of those peaks in relation to increasing excitation power. In order to further verify the properties of the exciton and biexciton, we perform auto- and cross correlation measurements. Using the former, we confirm the antibunching property of the signal light emitted from the single QD. Using cross correlation measurement, we verify that the exciton and biexciton emissions originate from the same QD and they are strongly correlated with each other. Lastly, we analyze the behavior of the cross correlation function in both the cases of saturated and unsaturated excitation of the QD.

We report on emission properties of single-photon sources of visible light, based on InAs/AlGaAs, CdTe/ZnTe, and CdSe/ZnSe quantum dot (QD) heterostructures grown by molecular beam epitaxy. For all types of QDs, the studies performed by micro-photoluminescence and photon correlation spectroscopies demonstrated the single-photon nature of emission with typical values of the second-order correlation function g (2) (0) less than 0.2 and allowed evaluation of sub-microsecond kinetics of blinking governed by local charging effects.

Single photon correlation measurements in a study of excitation process of individual CdTe/ZnTe quantum dots

Abstract We present the results of systematic autocorrelation and cross‐correlation measurements performed on photons originating from various excitonic transitions in a single CdTe/ZnTe quantum dot (QD). Excitation power dependence of photoluminescence intensity was also measured on the same dot under the same experimental conditions. Recorded correlation histograms have provided evidence for memory effects in QD photoluminescence extending over a few excitation periods. Rate equation model assuming a ladder of states and excitation through a single carrier and exciton capture, is fitted to the data. As a consequence, simultaneous quantitative description of the results of both, correlation and power dependence, is obtained. Strong evidence is presented for a QD excitation by capture of single carriers rather than entire excitons. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
