On the one-particle reduced density matrices of a pure three-qutrit quantum state

Abstract

We present a necessary and sufficient condition for three qutrit density matrices to be the one-particle reduced density matrices of a pure three-qutrit quantum state. The condition consists of seven classes of inequalities satisfied by the eigenvalues of these matrices. One of them is a generalization of a known inequality for the qubit case. Some of these inequalities are proved algebraically whereas the proof of the others uses the fact that a continuous function of the state must have a minimum. Construction of states satisfying these inequalities relies on a representation of the convex set of the allowed set of eigenvalues in terms of corner points. We also present a result for a more general quantum system concerning the nature of the boundary surface of the set of the allowed set of eigenvalues.

One-Qubit Reduced States of a Pure Many-Qubit State: Polygon Inequalities

We show that a necessary and sufficient condition for a set of n one-qubit mixed states to be the reduced states of a pure n-qubit state is that their smaller eigenvalues should satisfy polygon inequalities: each of them must be no greater than the sum of the others.

Entanglement monogamy in three qutrit systems

Qiting Li, Jianlian Cui, Shuhao Wang +1 more

By introducing an arbitrary-dimensional multipartite entanglement measure, which is defined in terms of the reduced density matrices corresponding to all possible two partitions of the entire system, we prove that multipartite entanglement cannot be freely shared among the parties in both n-qubit systems and three-qutrit systems. Furthermore, our result implies that the satisfaction of the entanglement monogamy is related to the number of particles in the quantum system. As an application of three-qutrit monogamy inequality, we give a condition for the separability of a class of two-qutrit mixed states in a 3 ⊗ 3 system.

When is a pure state of three qubits determined by its single-particle reduced density matrices?

Adam Sawicki, Michael Walter, Marek Kuś

Using techniques from symplectic geometry, we prove that a pure state of three qubits is up to local unitaries uniquely determined by its one-particle reduced density matrices exactly when their ordered spectra belong to the boundary of the so-called Kirwan polytope. Otherwise, the states with given reduced density matrices are parameterized, up to local unitary equivalence, by two real variables. Given inevitable experimental imprecision, this means that already for three qubits a pure quantum state can never be reconstructed from single-particle tomography. We moreover show that the knowledge of the reduced density matrices is always sufficient if one is given the additional promise that the quantum state is not convertible to the Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger state by stochastic local operations and classical communication, and discuss generalizations of our results to an arbitrary number of qubits.

Compatible conditions, entanglement, and invariants

To find whether a set of reduced density matrices comes from a common multiparty state is a hard and important problem. In this paper, we do the following. (i) We introduce a method to find out some polytopes in one-party eigenvalue space which are sufficient conditions of this problem. (ii) We point out that there are some relations between the compatible conditions and the entanglement of pure states. And we show this idea more clearly in the three-qubit case. (iii) We investigate the relations between the compatibility problem and the invariants of a matrix set under some groups. Furthermore, we show that it is one of the reasons why the compatibility problems which involve the multiparty density matrices are much more difficult than the one-party case.

Bounds on the entanglement of two-qutrit systems from fixed marginals

Giuseppe Baio, Dariusz Chruściński, Paweł Horodecki +2 more

We discuss the problem of characterizing upper bounds on entanglement in a bipartite quantum system when only the reduced density matrices (marginals) are known. In particular, starting from the known two-qubit case, we propose a family of candidates for maximally entangled mixed states with respect to fixed marginals for two qutrits. These states are extremal in the convex set of two-qutrit states with fixed marginals. Moreover, it is shown that they are always quasidistillable. As a by-product we prove that any maximally correlated state that is quasidistillable must be pure. Our observations for two qutrits are supported by numerical analysis.
