Concurrence as a Relative Entropy with Hilbert-Schmidt Distance in Bell Decomposable States

Abstract

Hilbert-Schmidt distance reduces to Euclidean distance in Bell decomposable states. Based on this, entanglement of these states are obtained according to the protocol proposed in Ref. [V. Vedral et al, Phys. Rev. Lett. 78, 2275 (1995)] with Hilbert-Schmidt distance. It is shown that this measure is equal to the concurrence and thus can be used to generate entanglement of formation. We also introduce a new measure of distance and show that under the action of restricted LQCC operations, the associated measure of entanglement transforms in the same way as the concurrence transforms .

Concurrence and negativity as distances

Douglas F. Mundarain, Jorge Stephany

In this report we consider the three dimensional subset of the space of states of two qubits that may be written in the so called standard form. For those states we show that different measures of entanglement, specifically concurrence, negativity and the Hilbert-Schmidt distance are proportional to the euclidean distance between the point representing the state in the three dimensional parameter space and the set of separable states.

A new entanglement measure induced by the Hilbert-Schmidt norm

Christopher Witte, Mathias Trucks

In this letter we discuss a new entanglement measure. It is based on the Hilbert-Schmidt norm of operators. We give an explicit formula for calculating the entanglement of a large set of states on C^2 \\times C^2. Furthermore we find some relations between the entanglement of relative entropy and the Hilbert-Schmidt entanglement. A rigorous definition of partial transposition is given in the appendix.

The Hilbert-Schmidt norm as a measure of entanglement in spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain: generalized Bell inequality and distance between states

Saulo L L da Silva, Daniel H. T. Franco

In this letter, we show that the measure of entanglement using the generalized Bell inequality and the distance between states coincide when we use the Hilbert-Schmidt norm. Our conclusions apply to the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chains with interaction between the first neighbors.

Entanglement Witness and Bell Operator by Hilbert-Schmidt Decomposition

Y. Ben-Aryeh, A. Mann

A new method is developed for obtaining entanglement witnesses (EW) and Bell operators for n-qubit state. Observing that both EW and Bell operators must have nonzero overlap with the given state we suggest constructing them using some of the terms that appear in the Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) decomposition of the state (not necessarily with the same coefficients). We illustrate the method for several 3 and 4 qubits states, and show improvement of the entanglement region compared with known results. Since the Bell operator and the EW may be restricted to few HS terms, separability/nonseparability of the quantum state can be checked by measuring only these terms.

Entanglement and separability of qubits systems related to measurement processes, Hilbert-Schmidt(HS)decompositions and general Bell states

Y. Ben-Aryeh

Separability and entanglement for n-qubits systems are quantified by using Hilbert-Schmidt (HS) decompositions in which the density matrices are decomposed into various terms representing certain one qubit, two-qubits,and larger qubits measurements. The present method is more general than previous methods for bipartite systems as it can be used for quantification of entanglement for large n-qubits systems. We demonstrate the use of such method by analyzing three qubits GHZ states, and three qubits general Bell states produced by a certain multiplications of Braid operators, operating on the computational basis of states. Quantum correlations are obtained by measuring all qubits of these systems, while a measurement of a part of the system gives only classical correlations. Quantification of entanglement for these systems is given by the use of HS decompositions.

Quantification and Conversion of Entanglement

Reinhold A. Bertlmann, Nicolai Friis

Abstract In this chapter the quantification of entanglement is discussed. Beginning with the pure-state entanglement measure called the entropy of entanglement, we discuss the paradigm of local operations and classical communication (LOCC) and its relation to majorization via Nielsen’s majorization theorem. We then turn to the asymptotic setting and discuss the formation and distillation of entanglement and the related entanglement measures: entanglement cost and distillable entanglement, and we examine the notions of distillability and bound entanglement. This brings us to a more general discussion of entanglement measures and monotones, and their desired properties, during which we present the entanglement of formation and concurrence, squashed entanglement, as well as the tangle and its relation to monogamy of entanglement, but also quantities like the relative entropy of entanglement, the Hilbert-Schmidt measure, and the (logarithmic) negativity. Finally we turn to the construction of entanglement witnesses and their geometric interpretation via the Bertlmann-Narnhofer-Thirring theorem
