Unified Description of q-Deformed Harmonic Oscillators

Abstract

A wide class of q-deformed harmonic oscillators including those of Macfarlane type and of Dubna type is shown to be describable in a unified way. The Hamiltonian of the oscillator is assumed to be given by a q-deformed anti-commutator of the q-deformed ladder operators. By solving $q$-difference equations, explicit coordinate representations of ladder operators and wave functions are derived, and unified parametric representations are found for $q$-Hermite functions and related formulas for the oscillators of Macfarlane and Dubna types. In addition to the well-known solutions with globally periodic structure, there exist an infinite number of solutions with globally aperiodic structure.

q-Deformed and c-Deformed Harmonic Oscillators

Ikuo S. Sogami, Kozo Koizumi, R. M. Mir‐Kasimov

Hamilton functions of classical deformed oscillators (c-deformed oscillators) are derived from Hamiltonians of q-deformed oscillators of the Macfarlane and Dubna types. A new scale parameter, lq, with the dimension of length, is introduced to relate a dimensionless parameter characterizing the deformation with the natural length of the harmonic oscillator. Contraction from q-deformed oscillators to c-deformed oscillators is accomplished by keeping lq finite while taking the limit bar→0. The c-deformed Hamilton functions for both types of oscillators are found to be invariant under discrete translations: the step of the translation for the Dubna oscillator is half of that for the Macfarlane oscillator. The c-deformed oscillator of the Macfarlane type has propagating solutions in addition to localized ones. Reinvestigation of the q-deformed oscillator carried out in the light of these findings for the c-deformed systems proves that the q-deformed systems are invariant under the same translation symmetries as the c-deformed systems and have propagating waves of the Bloch type.

Localized and Non-Localized Solutions of q-Deformed Oscillators

Kozo Koizumi, Ikuo S. Sogami

Eigenfunctions of the Fock and non-Fock irreducible representations are explicitly derived for the q-deformed oscillators of the Macfarlane and Dubna types. While the Fock representations are composed of localized functions, the non-Fock representations consist of nonlocal oscillating functions which are constructed for the first time in this paper. The concept of the q-Hermite functions is generalized to include both the Fock and non-Fock types in a unified manner.

The quantum mechanical Schrodinger picture of a q-oscillator

Trong Tuong Truong

A q-deformed version of standard quantum mechanics in the coordinate Schrodinger picture is obtained by replacing the ordinary coordinate derivative by the so-called q-discrete derivative as the representative of the momentum operator. The chosen q-discrete derivative is symmetric with respect to the exchange of q and q -1 . Under the usually adopted assumptions a q-deformed Schrodinger equation is derived for a harmonic oscillator. The complete set of eigenfunctions can be explicitly constructed as special q-functions and the corresponding energy eigenvalues are identical to those obtained by Biedenharn in his pioneering work (1989). This q-deformed oscillator exhibits a rich novel structure including dynamical symmetry and in the limit q to 1 it reveals some hitherto unknown features of the harmonic oscillator eigenfunctions.

Approach of the continuous q-Hermite polynomials to x-representation of q-oscillator algebra and its coherent states

Hossein Fakhri, S. Elham Mousavigharalari

We use the recursion relations of the continuous [Formula: see text]-Hermite polynomials and obtain the [Formula: see text]-difference realizations of the ladder operators of a [Formula: see text]-oscillator algebra in terms of the Askey–Wilson operator. For [Formula: see text]-deformed coherent states associated with a disc in the radius [Formula: see text], we obtain a compact form in [Formula: see text]-representation by using the generating function of the continuous [Formula: see text]-Hermite polynomials, too. In this way, we obtain a [Formula: see text]-difference realization for the [Formula: see text]-oscillator algebra in the finite interval [Formula: see text] as a [Formula: see text]-generalization of known differential formalism with respect to [Formula: see text] in the interval [Formula: see text] of the simple harmonic oscillator.

Harmonic oscillator with minimal length uncertainty relations and ladder operators

I. Dadić, Larisa Jonke, Stjepan Meljanac

We construct creation and annihilation operators for deformed harmonic oscillators with minimal length uncertainty relations. We discuss a possible generalization to a large class of deformations of canonical commutation relations. We also discuss the dynamical symmetry of a noncommutative harmonic oscillator.

Unified Representation of Quantum Mechanics on One-dimensional Harmonic Oscillator

Yongqin Wang

A quantum state corresponds to a specific wave function. We adopt a new mathematical method [1] to improve Dirac's ladder operator method. A set of orthonormal wave functions will be used to associate the operator with the square matrix corresponding to it. These allow us to determine the matrix elements by using the operator relations without having to know the specific wave functions. As a result, we can get the direct results of matrix mechanics and wave mechanics on one-dimensional Harmonic oscillator and their descriptions will be also unified.
