A q-deformed version of standard quantum mechanics in the coordinate Schrodinger picture is obtained by replacing the ordinary coordinate derivative by the so-called q-discrete derivative as the representative of the momentum operator. The chosen q-discrete derivative is symmetric with respect to the exchange of q and q -1 . Under the usually adopted assumptions a q-deformed Schrodinger equation is derived for a harmonic oscillator. The complete set of eigenfunctions can be explicitly constructed as special q-functions and the corresponding energy eigenvalues are identical to those obtained by Biedenharn in his pioneering work (1989). This q-deformed oscillator exhibits a rich novel structure including dynamical symmetry and in the limit q to 1 it reveals some hitherto unknown features of the harmonic oscillator eigenfunctions.

The Quantum Group as a Symmetry - The Schrödinger equation of the N-dimensional q-deformed Harmonic Oscillator -
With the aim to construct a dynamical model with quantum group symmetry, the q-deformed Schrödinger equation of the harmonic oscillator on the N-dimensional quantum Euclidian space is investigated. After reviewing the differential calculus on the q-Euclidian space, the q-analog of the creation-annihilation operator is constructed. It is shown that it produces systematically all eigenfunctions of the Schrödinger equation and eigenvalues. We also present an alternative way to solve the Schrödinger equation which is based on the q-analysis. We represent the Schrödinger equation by the q-difference equation and solve it by using q-polynomials and q-exponential functions. The problem of the involution corresponding to the reality condition is discussed.

We consider the q-deformed Schrödinger equation of the harmonic oscillator on the N-dimensional quantum Euclidean space. The creation and annihilation operators are found, which systematically produce all energy levels and eigenfunctions of the Schrödinger equation. In order to get the q series representation of the eigenfunction, we also give an alternative way to solve the Schrödinger equation which is based on the q analysis. We represent the Schrödinger equation by the q difference equation and solve it by using q polynomials and q exponential functions.
The finite q -oscillator is a model that obeys the dynamics of the harmonic oscillator, with the operators of position, momentum and Hamiltonian being functions of elements of the q -algebra su q (2). The spectrum of position in this discrete system, in a fixed representation j , consists of 2 j + 1 'sensor'-points , and similarly for the momentum observable. The spectrum of energies is finite and equally spaced, so the system supports coherent states. The wavefunctions involve dual q -Kravchuk polynomials, which are solutions to a finite-difference Schrödinger equation. Time evolution (times a phase) defines the fractional Fourier– q -Kravchuk transform. In the classical limit as q → 1 we recover the finite oscillator Lie algebra, the N = 2 j → ∞ limit returns the Macfarlane–Biedenharn q -oscillator and both limits contract the generators to the standard quantum-mechanical harmonic oscillator.
We consider the nature of the wave function using the example of a harmonic oscillator. We show that the eigenfunctions ψn=zn of the quantum Hamiltonian in the complex Bargmann-Fock-Segal representation with z∈C are the coordinates of a classical oscillator with energy En=ℏωn, n=0,1,2,.... They are defined on conical spaces C/Zn with cone angles 2π/n, which are embedded as subspaces in the phase space C of the classical oscillator. Here Zn is the finite cyclic group of rotations of the space C by an angle 2π/n. The superposition ψ=∑ncnψn of the eigenfunctions ψn arises only with incomplete knowledge of the initial data for solving the Schrödinger equation, when the conditions of invariance with respect to the discrete groups Zn are not imposed and the general solution takes into account all possible initial data parametrized by the numbers n∈N.
We construct a new model of the quantum oscillator, whose energy spectrum is equally-spaced and lower-bound, whereas the spectra of position and of momentum are a denumerable non-degenerate set of points in [− 1, 1] that depends on the deformation parameter q ∊ (0, 1). We provide its explicit wavefunctions, both in position and momentum representations, in terms of the discrete q -Hermite polynomials. We build a Hilbert space with a unique measure, where an analogue of the fractional Fourier transform is defined in order to govern the time evolution of this discrete oscillator. In the limit when q → 1 − , one recovers the ordinary quantum harmonic oscillator.
