Conformal invariance studies of the Baxter - Wu model and a related site-colouring problem

Abstract

The partition function of the Baxter - Wu model is exactly related to the generating function of a site-colouring problem on a hexagonal lattice. We extend the original Bethe ansatz solution of these models in order to obtain the eigenspectra of their transfer matrices in finite geometries and general toroidal boundary conditions. The operator content of these models is studied by solving numerically the Bethe-ansatz equations and by exploring conformal invariance. Since the eigenspectra are calculated for large lattices, the corrections to finite-size scaling are also calculated.

Critical and off-critical studies of the Baxter-Wu model with general toroidal boundary conditions

Francisco Castilho Alcaraz, J C Xavier

The operator content of the Baxter-Wu model with general toroidal boundary conditions is calculated analytically and numerically. These calculations were done by relating the partition function of the model with the generating function of a site-colouring problem in a hexagonal lattice. Extending the original Bethe-ansatz solution of the related colouring problem we are able to calculate the eigenspectra of both models by solving the associated Bethe-ansatz equations. We have also calculated, by exploring the conformal invariance at the critical point, the mass ratios of the underlying massive theory governing the Baxter-Wu model in the vicinity of its critical point.

Critical site percolation on the triangular lattice: from integrability to conformal partition functions

Alexi Morin-Duchesne, Andreas Klümper, Paul A. Pearce

Abstract Critical site percolation on the triangular lattice is described by the Yang–Baxter solvable dilute A 2 ( 2 ) loop model with crossing parameter specialized to λ = π 3 , corresponding to the contractible loop fugacity β = − 2 cos 4 λ = 1 . We study the functional relations satisfied by the commuting transfer matrices of this model and the associated Bethe ansatz equations. The single and double row transfer matrices are respectively endowed with strip and periodic boundary conditions, and are elements of the ordinary and periodic dilute Temperley–Lieb algebras. The standard modules for these algebras are labelled by the number of defects d and, in the latter case, also by the twist e i γ . Nonlinear integral equation techniques are used to analytically solve the Bethe ansatz functional equations in the scaling limit for the central charge c = 0 and conformal weights Δ , Δ ˉ . For the ground states, we find Δ = Δ 1 , d + 1 for strip boundary conditions and ( Δ , Δ ˉ ) = ( Δ γ / π , d / 2 , Δ γ / π , − d / 2 ) for periodic boundary conditions, where Δ r , s = 1 24 ( ( 3 r − 2 s ) 2 − 1 ) . We give explicit conjectures for the scaling limit of the trace of the transfer matrix in each standard module. For d ⩽ 8 , these conjectures are supported by numerical solutions of the logarithmic form of the Bethe ansatz equations for the leading 20 or more c

Q -colourings of the triangular lattice: exact exponents and conformal field theory

Eric Vernier, Jesper Lykke Jacobsen, Jesús Salas

Abstract We revisit the problem of Q -colourings of the triangular lattice using a mapping onto an integrable spin-one model, which can be solved exactly using Bethe ansatz techniques. In particular we focus on the low-energy excitations above the eigenlevel g 2 , which was shown by Baxter to dominate the transfer matrix spectrum in the Fortuin–Kasteleyn (chromatic polynomial) representation for , where . We argue that g 2 and its scaling levels define a conformally invariant theory, the so-called regime IV, which provides the actual description of the (analytically continued) colouring problem within a much wider range, namely . The corresponding conformal field theory is identified and the exact critical exponents are derived. We discuss their implications for the phase diagram of the antiferromagnetic triangular-lattice Potts model at non-zero temperature. Finally, we relate our results to recent observations in the field of spin-one anyonic chains.

Conformal invariance and the operator content of the XXZ model with arbitrary spin

Francisco Castilho Alcaraz, Marcio Jose Martins

The authors are concerned with the critical properties of the anisotropic Heisenberg chain, or XXZ model, with arbitrary integer or half-integer spin. The eigenspectra of these Hamiltonians, with periodic boundaries, are calculated for finite chains by solving numerically their associated Bethe ansatz equations. The resulting spectra are found to be in accord with the predictions of conformal invariance and the operator content is identified, for lattices with an even and odd number of sites. The results for spin 1 and spin 3/2 indicate that the conformal anomaly c for these models, in the gapless regime, has the value c=3S/(1+S), independent of the anisotropy, and the exponents vary continuously with the anisotropy as in the eight-vertex model. The operator content of these models indicate that the underlying field theory governing these critical spin-S models is described by composite fields formed by the product of Gaussian and Z(N) fields, with N=2S. Finally some of the irrelevant operators which produce the leading finite-size corrections of the eigenenergies are identified.

Conformal invariance and the spectrum of theXXZchain

Francisco Castilho Alcaraz, Michael N. Barber, Murray T. Batchelor

Numerical solutions of the Bethe-Ansatz equations for the eigenenergies of XXZ Hamiltonian on very large chains are used to identify, via conformal invariance, the scaling dimensions of various two-dimensional models. With periodic boundary conditions, eight-vertex and Gaussian model operators are found. The scaling dimensions of the Ashkin-Teller and Potts models are obtained by the exact relating of eigenstates of their quantum Hamiltonians to those of the XXZ chain with modified boundary conditions. The irrelevant operators governing the dominant finite-size corrections are also identified.
