Correlation length and average loop length of the fully packed loop model

Abstract

The fully packed loop model of closed paths covering the honeycomb lattice is studied through its identification with the integrable lattice model. Some known results from the Bethe ansatz solution of this model are reviewed. The free energy, correlation length, and the ensemble average loop length are given explicitly for the many-loop phase. The results are compared with the known result for the model's surface tension. A perturbative formalism is introduced and used to verify results.

Exact Results for Hamiltonian Walks from the Solution of the Fully Packed Loop Model on the Honeycomb Lattice

Murray T. Batchelor, Junji Suzuki, C M Yung

We derive the nested Bethe ansatz solution of the fully packed $\mathrm{O}(n)$ loop model on the honeycomb lattice. From this solution we derive the bulk free energy per site along with the central charge and geometric scaling dimensions describing the critical behavior. In the $n=0$ limit we obtain the exact compact exponents $\ensuremath{\gamma}=1$ and $\ensuremath{\nu}=\frac{1}{2}$ for Hamiltonian walks, along with the exact value ${\ensuremath{\kappa}}^{2}=3\sqrt{\frac{3}{4}}$ for the connective constant (entropy). Although having sets of scaling dimensions in common, our results indicate that Hamiltonian walks on the honeycomb and Manhattan lattices lie in different universality classes.

Finite average lengths in critical loop models

Jesper Lykke Jacobsen, J. Vannimenus

A relation between the average length of loops and their free energy is obtained for a variety of O( n )-type models on two-dimensional lattices, by extending to finite temperatures a calculation due to Kast. We show that the (number) averaged loop length stays finite for all non-zero fugacities n , and in particular it does not diverge upon entering the critical regime ( n 2 + ). Fully packed loop (FPL) models with n = 2 seem to obey the simple relation = 3 L min , where L min is the smallest loop length allowed by the underlying lattice. We demonstrate this analytically for the FPL model on the honeycomb lattice and for the 4-state Potts model on the square lattice, and based on numerical estimates obtained from a transfer matrix method we conjecture that this is also true for the two-flavour FPL model on the square lattice. We present, in addition, numerical results for the average loop length on the three critical branches (compact, dense and dilute) of the O( n ) model on the honeycomb lattice, and discuss the limit n 0. Contact is made with the predictions for the distribution of loop lengths obtained by conformal invariance methods.

The completely packed O(n) loop model on the square lattice

Henk W. J. Blöte, Yougang Wang, Wenan Guo

We present an investigation of the completely packed O(n) loop model on the square lattice by means of the transfer-matrix method and finite-size scaling. We investigate the model for a number of n values covering a wide range. This model is known to be equivalent with the q-state Potts model with q = n 2 , but here we also investigate the range n 2, the system is in an ordered phase, where the majority of the loops cover part of the elementary faces of the lattice in one of two checkerboard patterns that are in phase coexistence. Furthermore, we find that the numerical results for the free energy density are in agreement with the expressions obtained from the exact analysis of the equivalent six-vertex model. This article is part of ‘Lattice models and integrability’, a special issue of Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical in honour of F Y Wu’s 80th birthday.

Fully packed loop model on the honeycomb lattice

Henk W. J. Blöte, Bernard Nienhuis

We investigate the O(n) model on the honeycomb lattice, using its loop representation in the limit of full packing. The universal properties, which we calculate by means of finite-size scaling and transfer-matrix techniques, are different from the branches of O(n) critical behavior known thus far. The conformal anomaly of the model varies between -1 and 2 in the interval 0\ensuremath{\le}n\ensuremath{\le}2. The universality class of the model is characterized as a superposition of a low-temperature O(n) phase, and a solid-on-solid model at a temperature independent of n.

Lattice statistics in three dimensions: Solution of layered dimer and layered domain wall models

Vladislav Popkov, Doochul Kim, H. Y. Huang +1 more

Analyses are given for two three-dimensional lattice systems: A system of close-packed dimers placed in layers of honeycomb lattices and a layered triangular-lattice interacting domain wall model, both with nontrivial interlayer interactions. We show that both models are equivalent to a five-vertex model on the square lattice with interlayer vertex-vertex interactions. Using the method of Bethe ansatz, a closed-form expression for the free energy is obtained and analyzed. We deduce the exact phase diagram and determine the nature of the phase transitions determined as a function of the strength of the interlayer interaction.

Corner free energies and boundary effects for Ising, Potts and fully packed loop models on the square and triangular lattices

Eric Vernier, Jesper Lykke Jacobsen

We obtain long series expansions for the bulk, surface and corner free energies for several two-dimensional statistical models, by combining Enting's finite lattice method (FLM) with exact transfer matrix enumerations. The models encompass all integrable curves of the Q -state Potts model on the square and triangular lattices, including the antiferromagnetic transition curves and the Ising model ( Q = 2) at temperature T , as well as a fully packed O( n ) type loop model on the square lattice. The expansions are around the trivial fixed points at infinite Q , n or 1/ T . By using a carefully chosen expansion parameter, q ≪ 1, all expansions turn out to be of the form , where the coefficients α k and β k are periodic functions of k . Thanks to this periodicity property, we can conjecture the form of the expansions to all orders (except in a few cases where the periodicity is too large). These expressions are then valid for all 0 ⩽ q < 1. We analyse in detail the q → 1 − limit in which the models become critical. In this limit the divergence of the corner free energy defines a universal term which can be compared with the conformal field theory (CFT) predictions of Cardy and Peschel. This allows us to deduce the asymptotic expressions for the correlation length in several cases. Finally we work out the FLM formulae for the case where some of the system's boundaries are endowed with particular (non-free) boundary conditions. We apply this in particular to the square-lattice Potts model with Jacobsen–Saleur boundary conditions, conjecturing the expansions of the surface and corner free energies to arbitrary order for any integer value of the boundary interaction parameter r . These results are in turn compared with CFT predictions.
