Abstract

Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) resonance is obtained in a Λ three-level configuration when the coupling field and the probe field satisfy the two-photon resonance condition. When an additional microwave field drives the transition between two low levels of the Λ three-level system the EIT is observed to split into multiple EITs. In this paper we present a theoretical study of this effect. The results show that the EIT resonance can be split into triplet and the spectral positions of EIT windows is determined by the intensity and the frequency of the microwave field. Therefore, a microwave field can be used to open more than one EIT windows and the EIT frequency tuning can be realized by controlling intensity and frequency of the microwave field.

We present a method to control the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a four-level system with a coupling field, a weak probe field and two microwave driven fields. By sloving the density matrix equations, the numerious result is obtained. It is shown that the EIT resonance can be split into doublets and the spectral position of EIT window is determined by the relative phase between two microwave fields for fixed intensity of the microwave field. Therefore, the microwave field can be used to open more than one EIT window and by controlling their phase difference we can perform EIT frequency tuning. The structure in the spectrum can be explained using the dressed-state formalism.

Electromagnetically Induced Transparency and Gain under The Effect of Tuned Coupling Field

李晓莉 Li Xiaoli, 张连水 Zhang Lianshui, 杨悦 Yang Yue +1 more

Electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT) with extremely narrow spectral width is obtained in a well-studied lambda three level system where a coupling field and a probing field interact with two optical transitions.By tuning coupling field,it excites the transitions between two ground state hyperfine levels and excited state level. In this paper, both EIT and spontaneous radiation induced coherent dip can be obtained, and even the gain is observed to superpose to the EIT window.By discussing the behaviors of probing field absorption profiles under the effect of the tuned coupling field,it can be seen that there are quantum interference and coherence between EIT and spontaneous radiation induced coherent dip,and the coherence becomes remarkable when the excitation frequency of the coupling field satisfies certain conditions.

Controlling the electromagnetically induced transparency frequency tuning range by radio-frequency field

Lianshui Zhang, Zhonghong Zhuang, Jian Wang +2 more

The Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) is associated with a Λ three-level system and the spectral position of EIT window can be changed by varying the frequency of the coupling field, however, at large detuning the EIT will evolve into a dispersion-like feature and transparency property of EIT become less obvious. In this paper, it is shown that we can perform EIT frequency tuning by a radio-frequency (rf) field. In the cascade quasic-Λ four-level system, the absorption profile of probe field is calculated by solving the equations of motion of the density matrix. It is shown that the Autler-Townes doublet originates from the rf-field induced dynamic Stark effect and the spectral position of EIT window is determined by the frequency detuning of the coupling field. When the frequency detuning of the coupling field is half of the rf Rabi frequency, the EIT feature remain its absorptive profile. The frequency tuning rang of EIT is determined by the rf Rabi frequency, and can be explained using a dressed-state analysis. Therefore, frequency tuning range of EIT can be controlled by the rf Rabi frequency.

Perturbing an electromagnetically induced transparency in a Λ system using a low-frequency driving field. I. Three-level system

Eric Wilson, Neil B. Manson, C. Wei +1 more

Electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) resonance in a $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ configuration is obtained when the frequencies of two fields are close to resonance with two of the transitions and their frequency difference matches the frequency of the third transition. In this situation the spectrum of one swept field as a probe gives a simple transparency feature. However, when an additional field drives the third transition the EIT feature associated with the probe is split. This perturbed EIT is illustrated for both single and bichromatic driving fields. In the single-driving-field case a density matrix treatment is shown to be in reasonable agreement with experiment, and in both single and bichromatic cases the structure in the spectrum can be explained using the dressed-state formalism. The dressed states can also be used to account for subharmonic resonances observed in the strong-probe regime.

Electromagnetically induced transparency in the four-level system driven by bichromatic microwave field

Lijun Yang, Ke-jia Sun, Su-Heng Zhang +1 more

We present a theoretical study on the nonlinear behaviors of the electromagnetically induced transparency resonance subject to two microwave driving fields in a four-level atom system. The probe absorption spectrum is obtained by solving numerically the relevant equations of density matrix. It is shown that there are two pairs of the EIT windows in the probe absorption spectrum. The two pairs of EIT windows have symmetry with respect to the resonance frequency of the probe field, and the separation is equal to the Rabi frequency of the resonant microwave driving field. But in each pair, the splitting of two EIT windows is dominated to the strength of detuning microwave driving field.

Double electromagnetically induced transparency in a four-level lambda atomic system with doppler broadening

Hiền Nguyễn Thị Thu, Bang Nguyen Huy, Le Van Doai +1 more

In this paper, we study the formation of two electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) windows in a four-level lambda atomic system with Doppler broadening. The depth and the width of the EIT windows are easily changed by adjusting the intensity of the controlling laser fields. Meanwhile, the position of the EIT windows is also easily shifted by changing the frequency of the laser fields. In particular, by turning on or off one of the two coupling laser fields, the probe field response can be switched between one or two EIT window regimes, i.e., it is possible to switch between absorption and transparency regimes, and vice versa. In addition, our analytical model also allows one to investigate the influence of temperature (or Doppler width) on EIT windows, which is necessary for experimental observations as well as related applications at room temperature.
