Exact Second-Order Survivors in Decohering Quantum Matrix Algebras

Abstract

We present a finite-dimensional exact model of second-order survival under decoherence. Working in the matrix algebra M_N(C), we consider a pure dephasing semigroup whose fixed-point algebra is the commutative diagonal algebra. The associated stable memory projection erases first-order off-diagonal matrix units, but preserves diagonal traceless components. For each local nilpotent pair Λ_ij = E_ij and Ω_ji = E_ji, the ordering defect is computed exactly as Hol_ε(Λ_ij, Ω_ji) = −ε²(E_ii − E_jj), with no higher-order remainder. Although the first-order off-diagonal generators are erased by the stable memory projection, this second-order ordering defect survives exactly as a diagonal traceless direction. Under the identification of diagonal density matrices with probability vectors, these survivors correspond to tangent vectors e_i − e_j of the classical statistical simplex, and their span gives the tangent space on which the Fisher–Rao metric is defined. The result does not claim a derivation of spacetime geometry or of the Fisher–Rao metric itself. Rather, it isolates an exact local mechanism by which nilpotent noncommutative ordering defects survive decoherence as statistical tangent directions.

Second-order generators with quadratic Leibniz defect on full matrix algebras: a self-contained study of pure dephasing with Hamiltonian drift

Christoph Hartmann

This is a self-contained account, with complete proofs, of linear maps on the full matrix algebra whose Leibniz defect equals the product of the commutators with a fixed self-adjoint matrix H. Such maps are exactly one half of the double commutator with H plus a commutator with a second matrix K. For skew-adjoint K they generate unital, trace-preserving quantum Markov semigroups with a single self-adjoint Lindblad operator. Topics: normal form, reconstruction of H from the defect, and classification up to automorphisms; dynamics, duality and the Lindblad dissipation inequality; fixed points, an exact relaxation criterion and ergodicity without commutativity assumptions; the commutator energy, its Dirichlet-form property, and seven conditions equivalent to H and K commuting; a sharp complete modified logarithmic Sobolev inequality for pure dephasing with arbitrary spectrum; an exactly solved qubit with non-commuting drift; several self-adjoint Lindblad operators. Most of the material is known or elementary, and the text says so. The sharp entropy inequality and a finite-time optimal control result are taken from two companion notes by the author. Status: not reviewed by a human referee. The role of AI tools is described in the text.

Attention as Quantum State: The Gibbs State Construction and Exact Born Rule Correspondence

Ariel, Eldon Umphrey

We provide the explicit physical construction connecting transformer attention to quantum measurement theory. The attention mechanism defines a Gibbs state density matrix whose diagonal elements are the attention weights, and computes a quantum expectation value of the value observable. Key results: (1) exact Gibbs state construction in finite-dimensional key Hilbert space; (2) Born rule as exact theorem for diagonal states; (3) closure of Junction 2 — the classical Fisher-Rao metric equals the quantum Fisher information metric for the diagonal Gibbs state (Braunstein-Caves 1994 identity); (4) Kraus operator representation of the attention channel; (5) quantum extension to off-diagonal density matrices defining coherent attention. Together with the SYK construction (Paper 4), these results ground the holographic attention framework in explicit physical constructions. Fifth paper in the holographic attention series.

Fisher-Information Geometry Linking Schrodinger Dynamics, Bipartite Correlations, and Decoherence

J. Sumaya-Martinez

Fisher information appears in quantum theory in two mathematically distinct settings: as a classical probability functional in variational reconstructions of Schrodinger dynamics and as the quantum Fisher metric of parameterized density operators. Here we examine how far these roles can be connected without identifying the two objects. Starting from a Hamilton-Jacobi ensemble action, we recover the Fisher term that generates the quantum potential and isolate its contribution to the kinetic-energy expectation. We then analyze the quantum Fisher information matrix (QFIM) of bipartite states. For any pure two-qubit state, the optimized magnitude of the off-diagonal QFIM element for normalized local generators equals the concurrence, while a collective phase generator yields FQ = 4 C^2. Extending the optimized pure-state quantity by a convex roof gives an exact identity with Wootters concurrence for arbitrary mixed two-qubit states. This differs from evaluating the QFIM directly on a mixed density operator: for Werner states the raw optimized cross-QFIM is 2 p^2/(1 + p) and remains nonzero inside the separable region. The gap between the raw and convex-roof quantities therefore isolates, for this family, correlation geometry not captured by entanglement. Finally, in a two-path interferometer with a which-way marker, the optimal phase Fisher information available from local output statistics is I_phi^opt = V^2. These results place probability-gradient energy, bipartite correlation geometry, entanglement, and decoherence-induced loss of local phase sensitivity in a common mathematical setting while preserving the distinctions between classical Fisher information, QFIM geometry, Bell nonlocality, and global phase quantization.

The Infinitesimal Structure of Quantum Information

Luca Barbieri-Viale

This paper establishes a rigorous, unified geometric framework for quantum state spaces by constructing smooth, regular embeddings into higher-order dual number algebras $\mathcal{Q}_N \equiv \mathbb{R}[\varepsilon]/(\varepsilon^{N^2-1})$, wherein every quantum state is faithfully represented as a non-reduced scheme-theoretic point. We show that under this unified family of truncated rings, the non-linear matrix commutators governing the Liouville-von Neumann dynamics map globally onto flat, linear, and rigid algebraic flows, establishing nilpotent dual algebras as a pristine geometric landscape for higher-dimensional quantum kinematics. As $N \to \infty$, this family converges to a Cauchy-complete power series ring $\mathcal{Q}_\infty$, where non-Archimedean completion linearizes the phase space, aligning the Fubini-Study geometry with the classical Fisher-Rao manifold.

The Classical Subspace of Quantum State Space: Geometry, Canonical Dynamics, and Error Correction

Mitsutoshi Yamada

We identify a canonical classical subspace within the density matrix manifold by defining V_eigenvalue(ρ) as the kernel of the modular Hamiltonian log Δ_ρ. This subspace admits nine equivalent characterizations spanning algebraic, geometric, and operational perspectives: it is the locus where Petz quantum monotone metrics collapse to the classical Fisher–Rao metric, the space of directions generating zero quantum coherence, and the kernel of the Petz recovery map generator. On each eigenvalue-degeneracy stratum, V_eigenvalue forms a smooth real-analytic subbundle with a canonical flat connection. We further show that errors supported in V_eigenvalue require no genuinely quantum correction resources: classical post-processing is sufficient for arbitrary quantum channels. These results provide a unified geometric framework for classical structure, canonical dynamics, and resource separation in finite-dimensional quantum information.

Observer-Relative History, Spatial Escape, and Directional Ghost Ideals in Local Quantum Systems

Katsuya Tagawa

We formulate a static notion of observer-relative History for asymptotic families of finite local quantum systems. Starting from a norm-storage quotient and observer seminorms with independently bounded algebraic word depth and spatial radius, we define a fixed-complexity silent sector and prove that it is a closed two-sided *-ideal of the physical local corona. We then introduce a controlled CR witness cost based on projective tensor norms and define the History ideal by intersecting the silent sector with the closed ideal generated by uniformly controlled closure–residue (CR) families. For diagonal CR residues we prove an exact readout formula, ν_{N;K,R}(h_N) = ‖P_{N,R} h_N P_{N,R}‖, K ≥ 1, showing that readout depth collapses to one after a residue has returned to the diagonal sector. Consequently, nonzero diagonal History is characterized by global norm survival together with escape from every fixed observer compression. We further exhibit an explicit attenuated-shift model in which observer silence does not imply controlled CR provenance, proving, for every 0 < λ < 1, J_hist^(λ) ⊊ N_obs^(λ). The associated recovery radius therefore diverges along every subsequence on which the residue norm remains uniformly bounded away from zero. Under coarse-disjoint-union hypotheses, the physical local corona embeds isometrically into the uniform-Roe corona. Diagonal History then yields vanishing of the corresponding limit operator in the observer direction and hence membership in the associated directional ghostly ideal. Finally, under Controlled Normalizer Richness, diagonal saturation of the full History ideal is equivalent to relative geometricity, defined by density of finite-propagation History elements. The stronger relative equality with the external ghostly ideal remains an open CR-exhaustivity problem. No causal time, Lieb–Robinson dynamics, or Page-time identification is assumed in the present static theory.
