Abstract

Nonclassical states of quantized light are essential resources for quantum information science and emerging quantum technologies. In this work, we investigate the generation of such states in a dissipative hybrid system, namely a microcavity consisting of a ferromagnetic yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere coupled to a quantized microwave cavity mode, and particularly incorporating several nonlinear quantum optical elements including various Kerr media, optical parametric amplifier (OPA), and a magnonic parametric amplifier (MPA) which is introduced as the magnonic analog of the OPA. Decoherence effects arise from thermal photonic and magnonic reservoirs. Using the Heisenberg–Langevin formalism, we analyze the influence of Kerr nonlinearities, OPA, and MPA on several nonclassical signatures, including antibunching, entanglement, quadrature squeezing, and violation of the Cauchy–Schwarz inequality. Numerical results show that photon and magnon antibunching, as well as violation of the Cauchy–Schwarz inequality, can persist even in the presence of considerable dissipation, although these effects weaken as the thermal photon and magnon populations increase. In contrast, entanglement and quadrature squeezing remain remarkably robust against thermal noise. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the inclusion of OPA and MPA generally enhances all investigated nonclassical effects, whereas Kerr nonlinearities have negligible influence within the considered parameter regimes.

Nonclassicality of dissipative cavity optomagnonics in the presence of Kerr nonlinearities

Mahboobeh Moslehi, Hamid Reza Baghshahi, Mohammad Javad Faghihi +1 more

Abstract The phenomena of photon and magnon blockade, and nonclassicality which are the key ingredient for quantum enhanced technologies, can be considered as resources in quantum information processing. This paper deals with the study of nonclassicality in a lossy optomagnonic microcavity enclosed by Kerr medium, with considering different sources of dissipation. The system contains a ferromagnetic YIG sphere coupled to two optical modes in a microcavity, with photonic and magnonic Kerr nonlinearity in the presence of magnonic and photonic losses. Considering the Heisenberg-Langevin approach, we obtain the dynamics of the second-order correlation functions (CFs) to observe the phenomenon of photon and magnon blockade (PMB), and the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality (CSI) to find the nonclassicality of the system. We then discuss the effects of magnon-photon coupling strength and different sources of dissipation on the temporal behavior of the mentioned criteria. Looking at the numerical results, we find that the depth and the domain of antibunching behavior significantly depend on the value of the thermal average photon (magnon) number. The phenomenon of perfect PMB may also be observed in the presence of dissipation at the low-temperature regime where the equilibrium thermal photon (magnon) occupation number approaches zero, i.e. T → 0. Moreover, we see a strong anticorrelation between the photonic and magnonic modes and the optical modes, too. Furthermore, it can be found that the phenomenon of PMB blockade as well as antibunching can be observed at cryogenic temperatures.

Kerr-Nonlinearity-Triggered Nonclassicality of Magnons in a Photon-Magnon Coupling System

Xi Jiang, Shi-Qing Tang, Song-Song Li

Hybrid quantum systems have attracted much attention due to the fact that they combine the advantages of different physical subsystems. Cavity QED (cavity quantum electrodynamics) with magnons is a hybrid quantum systems that combines a YIG (Yttrium Iron Garnet) sphere and a 3D (three-dimensional) rectangular microwave cavity. Based on this hybrid photon-magnon system, we obtain an approximate analytic solution by the RWA (rotating wave approximation) with an ingenious transformation. After skillfully diagonalizing the Hamiltonian, we show that the Kerr-nonlinearity interactions could yield a negativity value of the Wigner function, periodic quadrature squeezing effects, antibunching property, and field nonclassicality in the magnon. Our work may stimulate the study of nonclassicality of photon-magnon coupling systems and its potential applications in quantum information processing.

Nonreciprocal Genuine Microwave Entanglement via Magnon Kerr Nonlinearity

Zongchi Lv, Guangling Cheng, Jiansong Zhang +1 more

We present a utilization of the magnon Kerr effect to generate nonreciprocal genuine microwave entanglement in a hybrid system consisting of a yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere and three microwave cavities. Based on the quantum Langevin theory and linearization method under the condition of strong magnon driving, the system dynamics and covariance evolution are deduced and then applied to determinate the quantum correlations. It is found that three microwave cavities entangle with each other at the steady state. The basic root is that the Kerr nonlinearity can not only induce the enhanced parametric amplification of magnon but also cause the magnon frequency shift. Naturally, when the direction of the externally applied bias magnetic field is changed, switching of the magnon Kerr coefficient from positive to negative occurs and nonreciprocal tripartite entanglement among three microwave photons can be achieved. This may provide a fundamental resource for practical applications in quantum information processing and quantum networks.

Magnon-photon cross-correlations via optical nonlinearity in cavity magnonical system

Yujie Fang, Wenxue Zhong, Guangling Cheng +1 more

We propose an alternative scheme to achieve the cross-correlations between magnon and photon in a hybrid nonlinear system including two microwave cavities and one yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere, where two cavities nonlinearly interact and meanwhile one of cavities couples to magnon representing the collective excitation in YIG sphere via magnetic dipole interaction. Based on dispersive couplings between two cavities and between one cavity and magnon with the larger detunings, the nonlinear interaction occurs between the other cavity and magnon, which plays a crucial role in generating quantum correlations. By analyzing the second-order correlation functions via numerical simulations and analytical calculations, the remarkable nonclassical correlations are existent in such a system, where the magnon blockade and photon antibunching could be obtainable on demand. The scheme we present is focused on the magnon-photon cross-correlations in the weak coupling regime and relaxes the requirements of experimental conditions, which may have potential applications in quantum information processing in the hybrid system.

Quantum illumination based on cavity-optomagnonics system with Kerr nonlinearity

Cheng-Zhang Du, Da‐Wei Wang, Cheng-song Zhao +2 more

Quantum illumination is a quantum optical sensing technique, which employs an entangled source to detect low-reflectivity object immersed in a bright thermal background. Hybrid cavity-optomagnonics system promises to work as quantum illumination because a yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere can couple to microwave field and optical field. In this paper, we propose a scheme to enhance the entanglement between the output fields of the microwave and optical cavities by considering the intrinsic Kerr nonlinearity of the YIG. We investigate the difference between intrinsic Kerr nonlinearity and optomagnonical parametric-type coupling on improving entanglement. Our result show that the large value optomagnonical parametric-type coupling does not mean the large entanglement, nevertheless, the large value of Kerr nonlinearity does monotonously improve the entanglement for our group of parameters. Consequently, under feasible parameters of current experiment, the signal-to-noise ratio and probability of detection error can be improved after considering the magnon Kerr nonlinearity.

Entanglement engineering in magnomechanical system via cross-Kerr interaction and mechanical parametric amplification

E. Kongkui Berinyuy, P. Djorwé, A. N. Al-Ahmadi +2 more

Quantum entanglement in cavity magnomechanical system has a wide range of applications in modern quantum technologies. In this work, we propose a theoretical scheme to generate and enhance quantum entanglement through cross-Kerr nonlinearity and mechanical parametric amplification (MPA) in a magnomechanical system. Our system is made of a magnonic mode that is simultaneously driving the acoustic phononic and the center-of-mass motion (CMM) phonon in a yttrium iron garnet sphere. The acoustic mode and the center-of-mass mechanical (CMM) mode are weakly coupled via the phonon hopping rate $J_m$. Moreover, the magnonic and phononic modes interact through cross-Kerr interaction, while the phononic mode is additionally driven via a Mechanical Parametric Amplification (MPA). Without the mechanical coupling ($J_m = 0$) and the MPA, the generation of entanglement among the subsystems requires a relatively strong effective cross-Kerr coupling. However, when phonon hopping and MPA are accounted, quantum entanglement can be generated even for weak values of the cross-Kerr coupling strength, revealing the key role of these interactions in the engineering of quantum correlations in our proposal. Furthermore, the related purity of the generated entangled states remains high for the same parameter's regime, revealing that the generated quantum entanglement is established without significantly increasing the mixing of the involved states in the system. Our work suggests how robust and stable quantum correlations can be engineered in magnomechanical structures based on nonlinear interactions. These results are useful for modern quantum applications including quantum information processing, quantum communication, and quantum computational tasks.
