Abstract

Abstract The phenomena of photon and magnon blockade, and nonclassicality which are the key ingredient for quantum enhanced technologies, can be considered as resources in quantum information processing. This paper deals with the study of nonclassicality in a lossy optomagnonic microcavity enclosed by Kerr medium, with considering different sources of dissipation. The system contains a ferromagnetic YIG sphere coupled to two optical modes in a microcavity, with photonic and magnonic Kerr nonlinearity in the presence of magnonic and photonic losses. Considering the Heisenberg-Langevin approach, we obtain the dynamics of the second-order correlation functions (CFs) to observe the phenomenon of photon and magnon blockade (PMB), and the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality (CSI) to find the nonclassicality of the system. We then discuss the effects of magnon-photon coupling strength and different sources of dissipation on the temporal behavior of the mentioned criteria. Looking at the numerical results, we find that the depth and the domain of antibunching behavior significantly depend on the value of the thermal average photon (magnon) number. The phenomenon of perfect PMB may also be observed in the presence of dissipation at the low-temperature regime where the equilibrium thermal photon (magnon) occupation number approaches zero, i.e. T → 0. Moreover, we see a strong anticorrelation between the photonic and magnonic modes and the optical modes, too. Furthermore, it can be found that the phenomenon of PMB blockade as well as antibunching can be observed at cryogenic temperatures.

Role of Optical and Magnonic Parametric Amplifications in Enhancing Nonclassicality in a Dissipative Microcavity Magnonic System Including Kerr Media

A. Noury, Mohammad Kazem Tavassoly

Nonclassical states of quantized light are essential resources for quantum information science and emerging quantum technologies. In this work, we investigate the generation of such states in a dissipative hybrid system, namely a microcavity consisting of a ferromagnetic yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere coupled to a quantized microwave cavity mode, and particularly incorporating several nonlinear quantum optical elements including various Kerr media, optical parametric amplifier (OPA), and a magnonic parametric amplifier (MPA) which is introduced as the magnonic analog of the OPA. Decoherence effects arise from thermal photonic and magnonic reservoirs. Using the Heisenberg–Langevin formalism, we analyze the influence of Kerr nonlinearities, OPA, and MPA on several nonclassical signatures, including antibunching, entanglement, quadrature squeezing, and violation of the Cauchy–Schwarz inequality. Numerical results show that photon and magnon antibunching, as well as violation of the Cauchy–Schwarz inequality, can persist even in the presence of considerable dissipation, although these effects weaken as the thermal photon and magnon populations increase. In contrast, entanglement and quadrature squeezing remain remarkably robust against thermal noise. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the inclusion of OPA and MPA generally enhances all investigated nonclassical effects, whereas Kerr nonlinearities have negligible influence within the considered parameter regimes.

Dissipative dynamics of optomagnonic nonclassical features via anti-Stokes optical pulses: squeezing, blockade, anti-correlation, and entanglement

Ebrahim Ghasemian

We propose a feasible experimental model to investigate the generation and characterization of nonclassical states in a cavity optomagnonic system consisting of a ferromagnetic YIG sphere that simultaneously supports both the magnon mode and two whispering gallery modes of optical photons. The photons undergo the magnon-induced Brillouin light scattering, which is a well-established tool for the cavity-assisted manipulations of magnons as well as magnon spintronics. At first, we derive the desired interaction Hamiltonian under the influence of the anti-Stokes scattering process and then proceed to analyze the dynamical evolution of quantum statistics of photons and magnons as well as their intermodal entanglement. The results show that both photons and magnons generally acquire some nonclassical features, e.g., the strong antibunching and anti-correlation. Interestingly, the system may experience the perfect photon and magnon blockade phenomena, simultaneously. Besides, the nonclassical features may be protected against the unwanted environmental effects for a relatively long time, especially, in the weak driving field regime and when the system is initiated with a small number of particles. However, it should be noted that some fast quantum-classical transitions may occur in-between. Although the unwanted dissipative effects plague the nonclassical features, we show that this system can be adopted to prepare optomagnonic entangled states. The generation of entangled states depends on the initial state of the system and the interaction regime. The intermodal photon-magnon entanglement may be generated and pronounced, especially, if the system is initialized with low intensity even Schrödinger cat state in the strong coupling regime. The cavity-assisted manipulation of magnons is a unique and flexible mechanism that allows an interesting test bed for investigating the interdisciplinary contexts involving quantum optics and spintronics. Moreover, such a hybrid optomagnonic system may be used to design both on-demand single-photon and single-magnon sources and may find potential applications in quantum information processing.

Generation of nonclassical optomagnonic states under the influences of Stokes scattering process and thermal noise

Ebrahim Ghasemian, Mohammad Kazem Tavassoly

We present a theoretical model for a hybrid optomagnonic system, i.e., a ferromagnetic YIG sphere that supports two optical modes and a magnon mode. The system is considered under the influences of dissipation process, thermal noise, and the Stokes scattering process. In particular, the quantum statistics of particles is evaluated via the dynamical evolution of their respective second-order correlation functions. Generally, the system can provide strong nonclassical features such that both strong antibunching and blockade effects can be realized in the patterns of the photon and magnon quantum statistics. Since the particles lose their nonclassical features in the presence of environmental effects, therefore a quantum-classical crossover takes place, i.e., the antibunched photons are transformed into the bunched particles. Such a crossover may be expected in the patterns of magnon statistics, too. Applying a weak driving field accompanied with a small value of the reorganization parameter facilitates the magnon blockade effect and strong magnon antibunching. Our analyses show that thermal noise degrades the nonclassical features stemming from the individual system components (auto-correlation). In contrast, thermal noise may provide a larger window for realizing the nonclassical properties originated from the joint system components (cross-correlation). Interestingly, when the system includes a small number of particles both correlation and anti-correlation features may be enhanced even in the presence of thermal noise. The nonclassical optomagnonic states can be utilized in various applications, including quantum information processing, sensing, and the study of fundamental quantum mechanics.

Magnon-photon cross-correlations via optical nonlinearity in cavity magnonical system

Yujie Fang, Wenxue Zhong, Guangling Cheng +1 more

We propose an alternative scheme to achieve the cross-correlations between magnon and photon in a hybrid nonlinear system including two microwave cavities and one yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere, where two cavities nonlinearly interact and meanwhile one of cavities couples to magnon representing the collective excitation in YIG sphere via magnetic dipole interaction. Based on dispersive couplings between two cavities and between one cavity and magnon with the larger detunings, the nonlinear interaction occurs between the other cavity and magnon, which plays a crucial role in generating quantum correlations. By analyzing the second-order correlation functions via numerical simulations and analytical calculations, the remarkable nonclassical correlations are existent in such a system, where the magnon blockade and photon antibunching could be obtainable on demand. The scheme we present is focused on the magnon-photon cross-correlations in the weak coupling regime and relaxes the requirements of experimental conditions, which may have potential applications in quantum information processing in the hybrid system.

f-deformed cavity mode coupled to a Λ-type atom in the presence of dissipation and Kerr nonlinearity

Hamid Reza Baghshahi, Mohammad Javad Faghihi

In this paper, the dynamics of a system consisting of a three-level atom, which interacts with a single-mode quantized field in a lossy cavity, is studied in the presence of the dependence of atom–field coupling and third-order nonlinear susceptibility on the intensity of light. The system contains a Λ -type atom coupled to a single-mode radiation field, with a degenerate multi-photon transition in the intensity-dependent regime. Also, the nonlinearity of the medium due to Kerr and intensity-dependent Kerr effects, and the detuning parameters are considered. Furthermore, to see the effects of dissipation such as photon absorption and scattering by the cavity mirrors and spontaneous emission of the atom, a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian is introduced, which results in obtaining the state vector of the whole system by applying the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. Thereupon, the dynamics of entanglement, coherence, photon statistics, and quadrature squeezing are numerically investigated. In each case, the roles of the intensity-dependent nonlinearity function, Kerr and intensity-dependent Kerr nonlinearity, different sources of dissipation, and detuning parameters are discussed. The numerical results indicate that the nonclassicality can remarkably be revealed, and can appropriately be controlled via the above-mentioned effects. It can be found that the presence of dissipation not only does not weaken the physical properties but also can enhance and protect the nonclassicality of the system.

Unconventional magnon blockade in a dissipative photon–magnon coupling system

Xuliang Deng, Kaikai Zhang, Tao Shui +2 more

We investigate unconventional magnon blockade (UMB) in a dissipative photon–magnon coupling cavity, where the coherent and dissipative coupling between photon and magnon can be adjusted by the position of the yttrium iron garnet sphere in the cavity. An approximate analytical solution for the statistical property of magnon is provided, which is in good agreement with the results obtained by numerically solving the Lindblad master equation. Our results indicate that UMB can be achieved in the case of dissipative photon–magnon coupling, but not in the case of coherent photon–magnon coupling. Secondly, by adjusting the amplitude of the external laser field, dynamic control of UMB can be achieved. Finally, by solving the Lindblad master equation containing the occupation number of thermal magnon and photon, the statistical properties of magnons will transition from nonclassical to classical. It is shown that the above phenomena originate from the interference between different quantum paths. Our research may provide theoretical possibilities for quantum manipulation schemes at the single-magnon level and open up a new avenue for designing single-magnon sources in a dissipative photon–magnon coupling system. • UMB can be generated by dissipative photon–magnon coupling, not coherent coupling. • The analytical optimal parameter for UMB is in agreement with the numerical result. • Dynamic-controlled UMB can be achieved by adjusting the external laser fields.
