Quantum Mechanics in Modern Engineering and Technology Applications

Harpreet Singh, Simran Kaur, Manjit Gill, Navdeep Sandhu, Pooja Bedi

Quantum mechanics has emerged as one of the most transformative scientific revolutions of the 20th and 21st centuries, extending far beyond its initial theoretical foundations into practical applications across engineering, materials science, information technology, and nanotechnology. Its principles, such as waveparticle duality, superposition, and entanglement, form the backbone of modern innovations like quantum computing, quantum cryptography, semiconductor devices, and energy-efficient nanomaterials. This paper investigates the role of quantum mechanics in advancing technological frontiers, with an emphasis on engineering domains such as electronics, computing, and material design. A detailed discussion on quantum principles, their mathematical representation, and their translation into applied engineering technologies is presented. By linking theoretical constructs to real-world devices and emerging applications, this work highlights the significance of quantum mechanics as not only a fundamental science but also as a driver of future innovation.

Quantum Computing: An Interdisciplinary Frontier Pushing the Boundaries of Knowledge

Abhey Abhey

Abstract The evolution of twenty-first-century science has increasingly relied on interdisciplinary exploration, where boundaries between traditional disciplines blur to foster new innovations. Quantum computing has emerged as a leading area of modern innovation, uniting concepts from physics, mathematics, engineering, and computer science. Using quantum-mechanical properties like entanglement and superposition, these systems are capable of addressing complex problems that traditional computers cannot efficiently handle. This chapter examines the interdisciplinary nature of quantum computing, focusing on how it integrates theoretical physics with computational models to push the frontiers of human knowledge. Through this synthesis, quantum computing not only expands the limits of computation but also demonstrates how collaboration across disciplines can yield transformative technologies that redefine our understanding of science and information. Quantum Computing and AI: Perspectives on Advanced Automation in Science and Engineering

Tadashi Kadowaki

Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing are accelerating automation in scientific and engineering processes, fundamentally reshaping research methodologies. This perspective highlights parallels between scientific automation and established Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) practices, introducing Quantum CAE as a framework that leverages quantum algorithms for simulation, optimization, and machine learning within engineering design. Practical implementations of Quantum CAE are illustrated through case studies for combinatorial optimization problems. Further discussions include advancements toward higher automation levels, highlighting the critical role of specialized AI agents proficient in quantum algorithm design. The integration of quantum computing with AI raises significant questions about the collaborative dynamics among human scientists and engineers, AI systems, and quantum computational resources, underscoring a transformative future for automated discovery and innovation.
