CDUFD Supplementary Material VII: Emergence of the Born Rule from Topological Instrument Dynamics

Pengtai Huang

The Born rule---the probability of obtaining measurement outcome $a_i$ given by $P(a_i)=|\braket{a_i}{\psi}|^2$---is the last independent postulate of quantum mechanics not yet reduced to dynamical principles. Existing decoherence programs explain why measurement outcomes appear classical, but cannot derive why the probabilities are precisely $|\psi|^2$. Gleason's theorem establishes the Born rule as the unique consistent probability assignment on Hilbert space, but it presupposes the Hilbert space framework itself. In this paper, we provide a complete derivation of the Born rule from the axioms of the Constraint-Dispersion Unified Framework (CDUFD). The central innovation is replacing statistical randomness with topological determinism: using A4 topological defects as natural instruments, their discrete topological charges provide a discrete spectrum of measurement outcomes; topological pairing constraints ensure that the relaxation of the system-instrument composite is deterministically directed---the instrument does not create probability, it merely ``reads out'' the topological sector of the system; the equilibrium distribution of the system in the critical regime is rigorously determined to be $|\psi|^2$ by the uniqueness of the Fokker-Planck steady state. The Born rule emerges as a direct corollary of the equilibrium statistical mechanics of the critical regime. The derivation strictly follows the CDUFD methodology of solution-space construction and constraint-driven reduction, with all steps anchored to axioms A1--A5. Together with Supplementary Material I (Madelung transformation) and Supplementary Material VI (Wallstrom condition), this work completes the full emergence of quantum mechanics from CDUFD axioms.

Quantum Mechanics as Topological Intersection Theory: The Born Rule, Wavefunction Collapse, and Planck's Constant from Worldline Non-Injectivity

Alex De Giuseppe

New edited version Title: Quantum Mechanics as Topological Intersection Theory: The Born Rule, Wavefunction Collapse, and Planck’s Constant from Worldline Non-Injectivity Abstract: This work presents a comprehensive derivation of the foundational principles of quantum mechanics by shifting the paradigm from stochastic postulates to a deterministic geometric framework. Utilizing the TPST-DGQ (Topological Phase Signalling Theorem - Discrete Geometric Quantization) framework, the paper demonstrates that the core axioms of quantum theory emerge as necessary theorems from the geometry of non-injective worldlines. Key Mathematical and Physical Derivations: Geometric Origin of the Born Rule: The paper proves that the probability density $|\psi(x,t)|^2$ is a "topological intersection density." By analyzing a single ultra-relativistic worldline $X^\mu(\tau)$ that intersects the constant-time hypersurface $\Sigma_t$ at $N(\epsilon)$ distinct points, the Born rule is derived as the normalized frequency of these intersections. This replaces the epistemic interpretation of probability with a frequentist geometric count. The Wavefunction as a Transport Representation: The wavefunction $\psi(x,t)$ is defined as the complex square root of the intersection density. Its phase is shown to be the result of proper-time transport along the continuous segments of the worldline connecting different intersection points. Emergence of the Schrödinger Equation: The manuscript derives the Schrödinger equation as the fundamental transport law for the intersection density. This derivation is shown to be valid under the condition of "inter-sheet phase coherence," a state forced by the Ontological Identity Principle and the finiteness of the action. Fundamental Nature of Planck’s Constant ($\hbar$): Instead of a fundamental constant of nature, $\hbar$ is derived as the minimum action per radian of phase accumulated between stable folds of the worldline. It is functionally linked to the UV cutoff $\epsilon$ and the rest mass $m$, providing a parameter-free basis for the quantum of action. Deterministic Wavefunction Collapse: Collapse is redefined as a topological transition from a non-injective state ($N > 1$) to an injective state ($N = 1$). This occurs through a physical interaction (measurement) that reduces the Lorentz factor below a critical threshold $\gamma_{crit}$, providing a dynamical solution to the measurement problem. Unified Regularization: The paper establishes the "Universal Topological Cancellation," showing that the same scaling mechanism $N(\epsilon) \sim \epsilon^{-(d-2)}$ that regularizes the Ryu-Takayanagi entropy in holography and the Coulomb self-energy in classical electrodynamics also ensures the UV-finiteness of the quantum intersection density. This research unifies quantum mechanics, classical electrodynamics, and holographic gravity under a single topological principle: worldline non-injectivity as a necessary and sufficient condition for finite physics at every level. Cognitive Field Dynamics: Extension III — The Born Rule Derivation

Don Gaconnet

This paper derives the Born rule of quantum mechanics—the postulate that measurement probability equals the squared amplitude of the wave function (P = |ψ|²)—from first principles within the Cognitive Field Dynamics framework. The Born rule has remained an unexplained postulate for nearly 100 years since Max Born introduced it in 1926. Despite extraordinary empirical confirmation, physics has not derived why probability should equal amplitude squared rather than some other function of amplitude. This paper demonstrates that the Born rule is not a fundamental postulate but an emergent consequence of coherent phase cycling. The central argument: actualization requires echo completion—a field configuration must project outward and return coherently to become real. This two-stage process (outbound amplitude α, return amplitude α*) yields probability proportional to α × α* = |α|². The derivation proceeds through five mechanisms: (1) Coherent Cycling: State persistence requires recursive phase return. Each phase-coherent cycle adds amplitude constructively. (2) Phase Conjugation: Time reversal through a phase structure produces the complex conjugate, ensuring the product yields real positive probability. (3) Interference Structure: Multiple paths to the same outcome sum as amplitudes before squaring, naturally producing quantum interference effects. (4) Competitive Normalization: Mutual exclusion under collapse competition automatically normalizes probabilities to sum to unity. (5) Universal Scaling: The mechanism operates identically across all scales—from quantum to cosmic—because it depends on phase relationships, not physical size. The Universal Scaling Constant (Λ = k/ℏ ≈ 1.31 × 10¹¹ K⁻¹s⁻¹) sets the coherence ceiling at any temperature. The paper connects this derivation to Extension II's Universal Scaling Constant, showing that Λ × T represents the maximum number of phase-coherent echo cycles possible before thermal decoherence disrupts the mechanism. Five testable predictions are provided, including bee swarm synchrony effects, cognitive interference under identity load, and therapeutic path interference patterns. This work resolves the measurement problem's deepest puzzle: why probability should equal amplitude squared. The answer is that actualization requires echo completion, and echo completion is inherently a squared process. ================================================================================KEYWORDS================================================================================ Born rulewave function collapsequantum probabilityquantum measurement problemcoherent phase cyclingphase conjugationecho reinforcementquantum interferencedecoherenceUniversal Scaling ConstantCognitive Field Dynamicsconsciousnessamplitude squaredtime reversalscale invariance ================================================================================RESOURCE TYPE================================================================================ Preprint ================================================================================PUBLICATION DATE================================================================================ December 25, 2025 ================================================================================CREATOR / AUTHOR================================================================================ Name: Gaconnet, Don L.Affiliation: LifePillar InstituteORCID: 0009-0001-6174-8384 ================================================================================LICENSE================================================================================ All rights reserved ================================================================================VERSION================================================================================ 1.0 ================================================================================LANGUAGE================================================================================ English ================================================================================RELATED IDENTIFIERS================================================================================ Is supplement to: DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.18012483 Title: Cognitive Field Dynamics: A Unified Theory of Consciousness, Expectation, and Experiential Geometry Relation: Is supplemented by this upload Is supplement to: DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.18037226 Title: Cognitive Field Dynamics: Extension I — The Quantum Mechanics Correspondence Relation: Is supplemented by this upload Is supplement to: DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.18040320 Title: Cognitive Field Dynamics: Extension II — The Universal Scaling Constant Relation: Is supplemented by this upload ================================================================================SUBJECTS / DISCIPLINES================================================================================ Quantum PhysicsTheoretical PhysicsConsciousness StudiesFoundations of PhysicsMathematical Physics ================================================================================ADDITIONAL NOTES================================================================================ This paper derives the Born rule (P = |ψ|²) from first principles, resolving a foundational question in physics that has remained unanswered since 1926. Simulating qubit measurement probabilities with the Born rule

P. K. Majumdar

This Jupyter Notebook provides a reproducible simulation of single qubit measurement probabilities using the Born rule. It accompanies Chapter 2 of Quantum Computing Preliminaries and demonstrates the relationship between complex vector calculations, Bloch sphere geometry and experimentally observed measurement frequencies. The notebook implements a validated Python function that calculates both the complex probability amplitude and the corresponding transition probability for an initial quantum state and a measurement state. It checks that the supplied vectors are finite, one dimensional, equal in size and correctly normalised. Invalid or physically inconsistent inputs produce informative errors. A worked example prepares a qubit in the computational zero state and measures it in the Pauli X basis. The calculated probabilities of obtaining the plus and minus outcomes are both 0.5, and their sum is verified to be 1. The result is independently confirmed using the geometric relationship between the corresponding Bloch sphere vectors. The notebook also constructs general pure qubit states at different polar and azimuthal angles. It compares numerical transition probabilities with the Bloch sphere half angle prediction across a range of sampled angles and verifies agreement within a numerical tolerance. A finite measurement simulation using 10000 trials illustrates the distinction between an exact theoretical probability and an observed experimental frequency. A fixed random seed of 2026 ensures that this demonstration is reproducible. The notebook records the Python version, NumPy version and execution platform. It requires only Python 3, Jupyter Notebook or JupyterLab, and NumPy. No external datasets, internet connection, quantum computing framework or physical quantum hardware are required.

The Born Rule from S² Geometry: Three Independent Routes to P = |⟨φ|ψ⟩|², with Geometric Resolution of Schrödinger's Cat, the Three-Polariser Paradox, the Tsirelson Bound, and the Cosmological Decoherence Floor

C. R. (René) de Haan

The Born rule — that the probability of obtaining outcome |phi> in a measurement of a quantum system in state |psi> is P = |<phi|psi>|^2 — is one of the most empirically well-confirmed and conceptually contested statements in physics. Existing derivation attempts (Gleason’s theorem; Deutsch–Wallace decision theory; Zurek envariance; many-worlds branch counting) each establish it under their own assumptions, but none has achieved universal acceptance. We show that in the Three Time Dimensions (3+3) spacetime framework (de Haan 2026, book DOI 10.5281/zenodo.19633127), in which the third time dimension t_3 is compactified as a discrete two-sphere S^2 with 2^152 Planck-area cells, the Born rule emerges through three independent geometric routes that all converge on the same result P = |<phi|psi>|^2. Route 1 (Malus’s Law on S^2): the wavefunction is literally a direction on the t_3 S^2; the Bloch sphere IS this S^2; Malus’s 1809 law P = cos^2(theta) is identical to the Born rule for bosons, with SU(2) double cover giving cos^2(theta/2) for fermions. Route 2 (Gleason + S^2 non-contextuality): Gleason’s 1957 theorem uniquely selects |<phi|psi>|^2 given non-contextuality, which in (3+3) is a consequence of the S^2 Riemannian metric rather than an independent postulate. Route 3 (Lévy measure + t_2 isotropy): the t_2 expansion perturbs all t_3 directions isotropically; the unique continuous binary-outcome probability measure is the Lévy / Haar-invariant spherical measure, which gives P(+n_A) = cos^2(theta/2). The three routes use distinct mathematical tools (projection, Hilbert-space theorem, stochastic analysis) and distinct physical inputs (geometry, Riemannian metric, dynamical isotropy). They must converge if the geometric identification is correct; they would diverge if it were wrong. Malus’s 1809 law is the Born rule avant la lettre. The empirical optical law taught to undergraduates as a fact is, under this reading, a direct geometric consequence of photon polarisations being directions on S^2 — a statement about projection geometry that predates quantum mechanics by a century. The same geometric identification simultaneously resolves four foundational puzzles: (1) Schrödinger’s cat is never in superposition (the cat’s ~10^29 t_3 modes are entrained by environmental t_2 perturbation within femtoseconds of the first atomic interaction); (2) the three-polariser paradox dissolves (non-commuting measurements are non-commuting rotations on S^2); (3) the Bell/Tsirelson bound 2sqrt(2) is a geometric consequence of S^2 having dimension exactly 2 — empirical confirmation by loophole-free Bell tests (Hensen, Giustina, Shalm 2015) confirms the S^2 identification; (4) the cosmological decoherence floor tau_cosm = 1/H_0 ~ 14.5 Gyr is a structural upper bound on quantum coherence set by the t_2 cosmic expansion — distinguishing the framework from many-worlds interpretations. Three supporting elegance claims establish the framework’s quantum-foundational coherence: (A) the complex-valuedness of psi in C follows from t_2 being a rotation (the imaginary unit i is the generator of the t_2 precession rotation); (B) the Schrödinger equation i hbar dpsi/dt = H psi is the infinitesimal form of t_2 precession rotating the phase of the t_3 configuration; (C) the canonical commutation [x, p] = i hbar follows from the foam lattice structure. The paper is complementary to the companion Quantum Computing preprint [DOI 10.5281/zenodo.19651560] which uses the Bloch-sphere-as-S^2 identification for applied hardware-level proposals. The Born Rule paper provides the foundational underpinning for why that identification is correct at the level of quantum-mechanical first principles. The paper is honest about what remains open. Four specific items are explicitly acknowledged (§11): (1) the framework does not yet have a 6D Lagrangian formulation from which the Born rule would fall out of path-integral quantisation; (2) the uniqueness of the S^2 identification is only partially addressed — higher-dimensional spheres are ruled out by the Tsirelson bound, but tori and Calabi–Yau alternatives are not examined; (3) the path-integral reformulation of quantum mechanics within (3+3) has not been constructed; (4) detailed comparison with QBism, relational quantum mechanics, and consistent histories is outside the paper’s scope. Falsifiability. Six routes: Tsirelson-bound overshoot/undershoot beyond 2sqrt(2) + measurement precision; indefinite quantum coherence beyond cosmological timescales; real-valued QM experimental confirmation (already ruled out by Renou et al. 2021, reconfirmed by independent tests); detection of genuine contextuality; detection of discrete S^2 cell structure at near-Planck scales. The Born rule, in (3+3), is not a mysterious postulate; it is Malus’s Law on a compact sphere that nobody knew was there.

The Tsirelson Bound as Measurement Geometry of the Existence Equation

Jae-Ahn Shin

Evidence Paper VI of the Existence Equation series. From Born rule to Bell inequality: one observer to two. In the parent work (The Existence Equation), the Born rule P = |Ψ|² is not an axiom but a derived consequence: the condensation term α|Ψ|²Ψ projects the continuous phase of the deviation field onto discrete binary outcomes (±1), and time-averaging the projected phase recovers cos θ correlations — verified by simulation on a 256³ lattice (hydrogen s-orbital, 30,000 steps). The Born rule emerges from the measurement geometry of one observer. If the Born rule for one observer is a consequence of ED's condensation mechanism, then for two observers sharing a single conserved field (Ψ_A + Ψ_B = 0), the Tsirelson bound S = 2√2 follows as pure measurement geometry. The Bell inequality violation is not a separate mystery — it is the natural two-observer extension of the same mechanism that produces the Born rule. Input: 2 items. The "Classical" configuration in the table below has |u| + |v| = 2√2 — the ceiling is fully available — yet achieves only S = 2. What differs is the correlation function. Separable hidden variables produce piecewise-linear correlations. Only cos θ correlations — which ED derives from field conservation, not from Hilbert space — can saturate the ceiling. The structural reading of Bell violation: Standard quantum mechanics treats the Born rule as an axiom and calculates 2√2 through Hilbert space operator norms. The Existence Equation derives the Born rule from condensation, then explains 2√2 as the geometric consequence of applying that same mechanism to two observers sharing a conserved field. The Bell inequality violation is not evidence for non-locality — it is evidence for non-separability of a single conserved deviation field. The Bell inequality violation is not spooky. It is geometric. It measures the diagonal of the binary measurement lattice. The derivation is scale-invariant, applying from quantum measurements to cosmic structure formation, unified through the Universal Scaling Constant established in Extension II.
Ceiling vs. Saturation — the key separation: Configuration|S||u||v||u|+|v| Optimal (quantum)2.82841.41421.41422.8284 Uniform2.59811.00001.73212.7321 Tight2.38900.76541.84782.6131 Classical2.00001.41421.41422.8284 The constraint |u|² + |v|² = 4 verified to 10⁻¹⁶ precision across 2D, 3D, and 10D measurement spaces — the bound is dimension-independent and reflects the structure of binary measurement, not of physical space.
