Abstract

Machine-learning algorithms infer a target relationship between inputs and outputs by studying example data, enabling them to interpret previously unseen inputs. This capability is essential for tasks like image and speech recognition, as well as strategy optimization, and it is increasingly important across the IT industry. In recent years, researchers have explored whether quantum computing can enhance classical machine-learning methods. Proposed ideas include accelerating computationally expensive algorithms or their subroutines using quantum hardware, and reformulating stochastic techniques within a quantum-theoretic framework.

Machine learning algorithms learn a desired input-output relation from examples in order to interpret new inputs. This is important for tasks such as image and speech recognition or strategy optimisation, with growing applications in the IT industry. In the last couple of years, researchers investigated if quantum computing can help to improve classical machine learning algorithms. Ideas range from running computationally costly algorithms or their subroutines efficiently on a quantum computer to the translation of stochastic methods into the language of quantum theory. This contribution gives a systematic overview of the emerging field of quantum machine learning. It presents the approaches as well as technical details in an accessible way, and discusses the potential of a future theory of quantum learning.

Quantum Artificial Intelligence: Enhancing Machine Learning with Quantum Computing

Aarav Lohia

Quantum computing has emerged as a transformative technology with the potential to revolutionize artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). This paper explores the intersection of quantum computing and AI, focusing on how quantum principles can enhance computational capabilities and address challenges in traditional machine learning approaches. Key aspects discussed include quantum algorithms such as quantum support vector machines, quantum neural networks, and quantum variational algorithms, which leverage quantum superposition and entanglement to process vast amounts of data more efficiently than classical counterparts. These algorithms promise to accelerate tasks such as optimization, pattern recognition, and data classification, thereby advancing the capabilities of AI systems. Moreover, quantum computing offers potential breakthroughs in solving combinatorial optimization problems that are computationally intensive for classical computers. Quantum annealing and other quantum optimization techniques are explored for their application in AI, providing novel approaches to solving complex decision-making problems.

Enhanced Machine Learning using Quantum Computing

Aishwarya Jhanwar, Manisha J. Nene

In recent times, increasing amount of the data have enriched the decision making using machine learning. Despite of the growth in the domain of machine learning, the proximity to the physical limits of chip fabrication in classical computing is motivating researchers to explore the properties of quantum computing. A few research efforts have demonstrated that quantum computers which leverages the properties of quantum mechanics, carries the ability to surpass classical computers in machine learning tasks. The study in this paper contributes in enabling researchers to understand how quantum computers can bring a paradigm shift in the field of machine learning. The paper focuses on the concepts of quantum computing that would be used by any machine learning technique to facilitate quantum machine learning. It also studies different quantum algorithms that could be used as core subroutines in machine learning techniques and highlights the famous Grovers algorithm. These subroutines are used to enhance the efficacy of machine learning tasks. The paper towards the end advocates the use of quantum application software and throws light on the existing challenges faced by quantum computers in the current scenario.

Machine learning methods in quantum computing theory

Dmitriy V. Fastovets, Yu. I. Bogdanov, B. I. Bantysh +1 more

Classical machine learning theory and theory of quantum computations are among of the most rapidly developing scientific areas in our days. In recent years, researchers investigated if quantum computing can help to improve classical machine learning algorithms. The quantum machine learning includes hybrid methods that involve both classical and quantum algorithms. Quantum approaches can be used to analyze quantum states instead of classical data. On other side, quantum algorithms can exponentially improve classical data science algorithm. Here, we show basic ideas of quantum machine learning. We present several new methods that combine classical machine learning algorithms and quantum computing methods. We demonstrate multiclass tree tensor network algorithm, and its approbation on IBM quantum processor. Also, we introduce neural networks approach to quantum tomography problem. Our tomography method allows us to predict quantum state excluding noise influence. Such classical-quantum approach can be applied in various experiments to reveal latent dependence between input data and output measurement results.

The paper "Quantum Machine Learning: Leveraging Quantum Computing for Enhanced Learning Algorithms" explores the integration of quantum computing principles into classical machine learning techniques, aiming to address limitations such as scalability and computational inefficiency. It presents the foundational concepts of quantum computing, including superposition and entanglement, and their application in accelerating machine learning processes. The study emphasizes the potential for quantum algorithms to significantly improve the performance of machine learning tasks by processing large datasets more efficiently and exploring larger hypothesis spaces. Key quantum machine learning algorithms discussed include Quantum Support Vector Machines (QSVM), Quantum Principal Component Analysis (QPCA), and Quantum Neural Networks (QNN), each of which leverages quantum mechanics to overcome the computational barriers faced by classical algorithms. The Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA) is also highlighted for its ability to optimize machine learning models more effectively. While the theoretical benefits of Quantum Machine Learning (QML) are promising, the practical application of these techniques is currently limited by the constraints of existing quantum hardware. This research contributes to the emerging field of QML by examining its potential advantages and future implications in addressing complex data processing challenges.
