As the world outgrows the capabilities of 5G networks, the search for the next technical standard — 6G — accelerates, promising unprecedented connectivity, capability, and adaptability. However, optimizing network performance to simultaneously satisfy purported multiple key performance indicators — latency, energy efficiency, resilience, trustworthiness etc. — is a herculean struggle. Traditional Shannon-based communication models struggle to address and overcome the complex tradeoffs required in ultra-reliable, low-latency, and secure network architectures. It is no surprise, then, that emerging paradigms such as semantic communication, goal-oriented communication, and quantum communication are being integrated into telecommunication research. Unlike classical communication, semantic communication focuses on transmitting meaning more so than merely raw data; additionally, quantum semantic communication leverages quantum mechanics to further optimize information processing and security. In this paper, we conceptually investigate whether these theoretical technological advancements, when interpreted in the right context, can intrinsically enhance resilience in 6G networks.

The convergence of Sixth-Generation (6G) wireless networks and the Internet of Things (IoT) demands unprecedented levels of performance, scalability, and security. Traditional architectures are increasingly inadequate in addressing the computational and security challenges posed by massive IoT connectivity, ultra-low latency, and high data throughput. This paper proposes a novel quantum-assisted architecture that integrates quantum computing and quantum communication principles to enhance the efficiency and security of 6G-enabled IoT systems. The framework leverages quantum key distribution (QKD), quantum machine learning (QML), and entanglement-assisted routing to provide end-to-end encryption, intelligent resource allocation, and resilient data transmission. Our simulation results and comparative analysis demonstrate significant improvements in network throughput, latency, and security resilience compared to classical 6G-IoT architectures. This research establishes a foundational step toward realising secure and intelligent next-generation wireless networks through the integration of quantum technology.
The paradigm of semantic and goal-oriented communication offers a transition toward highly efficient AI-native connect-compute-actuate 6G networks. Unlike current content-blind communication and ML/AI training, interactions among intelligent agents capture essential information properties, facilitating practical support for understanding and effective goal attainment. However, its full potential is hindered by excessive energy consumption, wireless system resource consumption, and computational limitations. Graph-based knowledge and communication systems effectively represent, communicate, and process complex, causal, structural, and multidimensional semantic meanings. Operating in terms of semantic entities, relationships, contextual logic, and reasoning rules, these systems face challenges in transmitting graphs over classical wireless channels, given the associated resource costs. To overcome this, we explore integrating quantum technology into semantic communication, presenting a novel approach - quantum semantic communications. In our study, we focus on sharing semantic knowledge graphs through quantum mechanical principles, utilizing remote state preparation within quantum protocols. We evaluate the tradeoffs between semantic graphs and quantum channel costs to determine the feasibility of our protocol. Additionally, we explore the scalability of the quantum approach and demonstrate the computational gains achievable in polynomial time.
Evolution towards 6G communication networks aims to support burgeoning alternative technologies in order to overcome traditional classical trade-offs in various aspects of network performance, security, and latency. With this pursuit also striving to meet more nuanced aspects of purported trustwor-thiness standards, the soaring complexity of the next-generation networks is unsurprising; additional classical resources (third-party random number generators, pre-shared keys, etc.) are thus becoming increasingly relied upon for optimal network functioning. In this paper, we explore the potential of quantum technology and how it might be possible to utilize quantum phenomena like quantum entanglement to transfer decisional information in specific network contexts while also inherently providing destination anonymity without requiring additional classical resources.
This paper explores the integration of Quantum Communication Networks (QCNs), semantic communication, and covert communication within the context of 6G and future wireless networks. Introducing a new Quantum Semantic Communications (QSC) framework that capitalizes on advancements in quantum machine learning and semantic representations, this framework dramatically enhances resource efficiency in QCN s. It does so by embedding only relevant classical data into compact, high-dimensional quantum states for transmission, achieving a potential resource reduction of 50-75% while boosting quantum semantic fidelity. The paper further examines Artificial Intelligence's (AI) transformative role in upgrading tra-ditional communication paradigms into more efficient semantic communication systems, utilizing deep learning and end-to-end methodologies to ensure precise conveyance and interpretation of meanings in transmitted information. Additionally, it explores incorporating covert communication strategies within systems supported by a Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (STAR-RIS) and Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA), emphasizing the enhanced security and stealth necessary for modern networks. By merging these sophisticated communication strategies, the paper anticipates a new era of telecommunications that significantly surpasses existing security, efficiency, and semantic accuracy capabilities, marking a progressive step towards future networks optimized for secure, efficient, and meaning-focused communication in the quantum and AI era.
