Investigation of Electromagnetic‐Induced Transparency in GaAs Quantum Dot in Presence of Morse Potential

Abstract

In this article, investigation is done on electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a GaAs quantum dot with Morse potential confinement. The time‐independent Schrödinger equation is solved numerically using the effective mass approximation. The energy levels, wavefunctions, and the dipole matrix elements are calculated. EIT studies are performed for both rotational and rovibrational states, and the results are evaluated with respect to the effects of potential parameters, confinement radius, and the energy levels involved in EIT. The EIT behavior is found to differ between the rotational and rovibrational states. Rotational states exhibit stronger responses than rovibrational states.

The effect of spherical metallic nanoparticles on electromagnetically induced transparency in spherical quantum dots

A. Asghari Nejad, Hassan Randjbar Askari

In this paper, electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is investigated in a GaAs spherical quantum dot (SQD) with central potential in presence of spherical metallic nanoparticle (SMNP). Solving the Schrödinger equation in effective mass, eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of SQD are obtained. By using the obtained eigenfunctions and eigenvalues, the susceptibility of SQD is found. In addition, dependence of EIT on radius of SQD and SMNP, distance between SMNP and SQD and Rabi and probe frequencies are investigated.

In this paper, effect of the control and probe lasers polarization on generation of the double windows of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and also on absorption coefficient in a W-type GaAs cylindrical quantum dot (QD) with parabolic potential are investigated. The Schrodinger equation is solved in method of effective mass. Dependence of EIT and absorption coefficient on radius and height of cylindrical QD, in the different polarization of the probe and control lasers are also investigated.

Electromagnetically Induced Transparency in a GaAs Coupled Quantum Dot-Ring

R. V. H. Hahn, A. S. Giraldo-Neira, Juan Alejandro Vinasco +3 more

In this work, the ground and low-lying excited states in a GaAs coupled quantum dot-ring embedded in an AlGaAs cylindrical matrix are computed under the assumption of a finite confinement potential and an axisymmetric model by means of the finite element method and the effective mass approximation. The electron energy levels are studied as functions of the intensity of externally applied electric and magnetic fields. Electromagnetically induced transparency in the ladder configuration and linear optical absorption coefficient are calculated thereupon. Our results suggest that magnetic fields are more suitable than electric fields for controlling the optical properties of this nanostructure. Also, we found that the system's response, however, exhibits a striking asymmetry: while the electromagnetically induced transparency is unexpectedly quenched under positive electric fields due to vanishing dipole transition matrix elements, this limitation is completely overcome by a magnetic field. Its application not only restores optical transparency across the full range of electric field values but also drives substantially larger energy level shifts and clear Aharonov-Bohm oscillations, making it a far more robust tool for controlling the optical properties of confined electrons in dot-ring coupled heterostructures.

Kerr nonlinearity and nonlinear absorption coefficient in a four-level M-model cylindrical quantum dot under the phenomenon of electromagnetically induced transparency

Behjat Behroozian, Hassan Randjbar Askari

Abstract The Kerr nonlinearity and the nonlinear absorption coefficient in a four-level M-model of a GaAs cylindrical quantum dot (QD) with parabolic potential under electromagnetically induced transparency are investigated. By solving the density matrix equations in the steady-state, the third order susceptibility is obtained. Then, by using the real and imaginary parts of third order susceptibility, the Kerr nonlinearity and the nonlinear absorption coefficient, respectively, for this system are computed. The effects of the radius and height of the cylindrical QD are then investigated. In addition, the effects of the control laser fields on the Kerr nonlinearity and the nonlinear absorption coefficient are investigated.

Numerical investigation of electromagnetically induced transparency in a quantum dot structure

.A numerical investigation of pulse propagation in a quantum dot structure in the regime of electromagnetically induced transparency is reported. The quantum dot is described as a cone on top of a wetting layer and the calculated energy levels and dipole moments are used in an effective three-level model. Pulse propagation characteristics such as degree of slowdown, absorption, and pulse distortion are investigated with respect to their dependence on the dephasing rates and pulse width. It is seen how Rabi oscillations can seriously distort the pulse when the spectral width of the pulse becomes too large compared to the width of the EIT window.

Electromagnetically induced transparency in a rectangular quantum dot on a single electron

Vladan Pavlovic, Zeljko Laic, Ljiljana Stevanović +1 more

In this paper, we investigated the realization of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a rectangular quantum dot (QD) with a single electron in the presence of probe and control laser fields. The lowest three levels of the confined electron that form ladder and V configuration were chosen. We discussed the dependence of density matrix elements for ladder configuration and for V configuration on detunings of the probe field for various values of quantum dot dimensions. This dependence is discussed for both cases, at cryogenic temperatures when spontaneous emission dominates the relaxation mechanism and at room or higher temperatures when dephasing rate cannot be neglected.
