The effect of spherical metallic nanoparticles on electromagnetically induced transparency in spherical quantum dots

Abstract

In this paper, electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is investigated in a GaAs spherical quantum dot (SQD) with central potential in presence of spherical metallic nanoparticle (SMNP). Solving the Schrödinger equation in effective mass, eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of SQD are obtained. By using the obtained eigenfunctions and eigenvalues, the susceptibility of SQD is found. In addition, dependence of EIT on radius of SQD and SMNP, distance between SMNP and SQD and Rabi and probe frequencies are investigated.

Optical response of a quantum dot–metal nanoparticle hybrid interacting with a weak probe field

Spyridon G. Kosionis, Andreas Terzis, Seyed M. Sadeghi +1 more

We study optical effects in a hybrid system composed of a semiconductor quantum dot and a spherical metal nanoparticle that interacts with a weak probe electromagnetic field. We use modified nonlinear density matrix equations for the description of the optical properties of the system and obtain a closed-form expression for the linear susceptibilities of the quantum dot, the metal nanoparticle, and the total system. We then investigate the dependence of the susceptibility on the interparticle distance as well as on the material parameters of the hybrid system. We find that the susceptibility of the quantum dot exhibits optical transparency for specific frequencies. In addition, we show that there is a range of frequencies of the applied field for which the susceptibility of the semiconductor quantum dot leads to gain. This suggests that in such a hybrid system quantum coherence can reverse the course of energy transfer, allowing flow of energy from the metallic nanoparticle to the quantum dot. We also explore the susceptibility of the metal nanoparticle and show that it is strongly influenced by the presence of the quantum dot.

Investigation of Electromagnetic‐Induced Transparency in GaAs Quantum Dot in Presence of Morse Potential

Varsha, Monica Gambhir, Vinod Prasad

In this article, investigation is done on electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a GaAs quantum dot with Morse potential confinement. The time‐independent Schrödinger equation is solved numerically using the effective mass approximation. The energy levels, wavefunctions, and the dipole matrix elements are calculated. EIT studies are performed for both rotational and rovibrational states, and the results are evaluated with respect to the effects of potential parameters, confinement radius, and the energy levels involved in EIT. The EIT behavior is found to differ between the rotational and rovibrational states. Rotational states exhibit stronger responses than rovibrational states.

Pump-probe optical response of semiconductor quantum dot–metal nanoparticle hybrids

Spyridon G. Kosionis, Emmanuel Paspalakis

We study optical effects in a hybrid system composed of a semiconductor quantum dot (SQD) and a spherical metal nanoparticle (MNP) that interacts with a weak probe and a strong pump electromagnetic field. We use modified nonlinear density matrix equations for the description of the optical properties of the system and calculate, numerically, the first-order susceptibilities of the SQD, the MNP, and the total hybrid nanostructure of the probe field in the presence of the pump field. We investigate the dependence of the probe absorption and dispersion spectra of the SQD, the MNP, and the total nanostructure on the interparticle distance and the detuning of the pump field, and stress the influence of the MNP contribution to the total optical response. The results we find are explained according to the theory of two distinct metastates, which constitute conjugations of the SQD excitonic and the MNP plasmonic excitations. We also show that the optical response strongly depends on the actual values of the SQD material parameters.

Electromagnetically induced grating in semiconductor quantum dot and metal nanoparticle hybrid system by considering nonlocality effects

Tayebeh Naseri

The optical polarization from a hybrid system including a closely spaced spherical SQD (modeled as a three-level V-type system) and a metal nanoparticle which are considered classically and are connected by the dipole–dipole interaction mechanism is investigated. The interaction between the SQD and the MNP shows an interesting optical response. In the weak probe field regime and MNP nonlocality correction, the absorption spectrum of the hybrid system exhibits an EIT window with two absorption peaks and the plasmon-assisted quantum interference plays an important role in the position and amplitude of these peaks, which are intensely altered by including the nonlocal effects. The probe diffraction grating is created based on the excitons-induced transparency by applying a standing-wave coupling field. The results of this study are useful in numerous areas of all-optical communications.

The effect of control lasers polarization on absorption index in Electromagnetically Induced Transparency (EIT) in W-type cylindrical quantum dot

marziye al-sadat moezzi, Hassan Randjbar Askari

In this paper, effect of the control and probe lasers polarization on generation of the double windows of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and also on absorption coefficient in a W-type GaAs cylindrical quantum dot (QD) with parabolic potential are investigated. The Schrodinger equation is solved in method of effective mass. Dependence of EIT and absorption coefficient on radius and height of cylindrical QD, in the different polarization of the probe and control lasers are also investigated.

The Polarization of Plasmonic Field and Depolarization Factor for The Ellipsoid in Semiconductor Quantum Dot-metallic Nano Ellipsoid System

Asmaa M. Abd-Elsamie, Somia Abd-Elnabi, Kariman I. Osman

Abstract We theoretically study the polarization of plasmonic fields in a hybrid nanosystem composed of three different metallic nano ellipsoid and a semiconductor quantum dot. The components of the hybrid nanosystem interact with three electromagnetic fields and one another via dipole-dipole interactions. We derive the density matrix equations at a steady state for the description of the optical properties of the hybrid nanosystem. The polarization of the plasmonic fields induced on the prolate, spherical, and oblate nano ellipsoid is calculated. We find that the polarization of the plasmonic fields depends on the number of the metallic nanoparticles (ellipsoid), the depolarization factor of the metallic nano ellipsoid, the direction of the plasmonic field, and the metallic nano ellipsoid parameters of the hybrid nanosystem. The phenomena of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) and electromagnetically induced transparency with amplification (EITA) are obtained in this work.
