Abstract

The implementation of shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA) enables a substantial reduction in the evolution time relative to traditional adiabatic methods, concurrently mitigating detrimental environmental interference. In this manuscript, we present a protocol using STA for the one-step generation of squeezed-light states of arbitrary photons. By starting from different initial Fock states, high-fidelity (>0.99) squeezed-light states can be generated with the same control Hamiltonian. We investigate the protocol's robustness under conditions of systematic errors and environmental noises through numerical simulations, which confirm the feasibility of the proposed scheme. The protocol may facilitate the investigation of quantum state control process, with the potential for significant impact in the near future.

Entanglement generation of arbitrary squeezed Fock states

Qin-Ru Cheng, Ke-Xiong Yan, Yuan Qiu +3 more

We propose an efficient and robust protocol for the generation of entanglement between a superconducting qubit and a squeezed cavity. By applying a parametric drive to the cavity coupled to the qubit, the dynamical evolution of the system is precisely described by an anisotropic Rabi model within a squeezed reference frame. Utilizing high-order time-averaging methods, we analytically derive the resonance conditions and the effective Rabi frequency for the high-order three-photon process. By implementing an adiabatic passage, slowly tuning the cavity frequency across the resonance, the system is steered into a maximally entangled state, e.g., between the three-photon state $\ket{g,3}$ and the qubit excited state $\ket{e,0}$ in the squeezed picture. Numerical simulation results confirm the high fidelity and robustness of the proposed protocol. Our method provides a practical pathway for generating complex non-Gaussian entangled states, which are of significant value for fault-tolerant quantum computation and quantum metrology beyond the standard quantum limit.

Shortcuts to Adiabaticity for the Quantum Rabi Model: Efficient Generation of Giant Entangled Cat States via Parametric Amplification

Ye‐Hong Chen, Wei Qin, Xin Wang +2 more

We propose a method for the fast generation of nonclassical ground states of the Rabi model in the ultrastrong and deep-strong coupling regimes via the shortcuts-to-adiabatic (STA) dynamics. The time-dependent quantum Rabi model is simulated by applying parametric amplification to the Jaynes-Cummings model. Using experimentally feasible parametric drive, this STA protocol can generate large-size Schrödinger cat states, through a process that is ∼10 times faster compared to adiabatic protocols. Such fast evolution increases the robustness of our protocol against dissipation. Our method enables one to freely design the parametric drive, so that the target state can be generated in the lab frame. A largely detuned light-matter coupling makes the protocol robust against imperfections of the operation times in experiments.

Spin squeezing in internal bosonic Josephson junctions via enhanced shortcuts to adiabaticity

Manuel Odelli, Vladimir M. Stojanović, A. Ruschhaupt

We investigate a time-efficient and robust preparation of spin-squeezed states---a class of states of interest for quantum enhanced metrology---in internal bosonic Josephson junctions with a time-dependent nonlinear coupling strength between atoms in two different hyperfine states. We treat this state-preparation problem, which had previously been addressed using shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA), using the recently proposed analytical modification of this class of quantum control protocols that has become known as the enhanced STA (eSTA) method. We characterize the state-preparation process by evaluating the time dependence of the coherent spin-squeezing and number-squeezing parameters and the target-state fidelity. We show that the state-preparation times obtained using the eSTA method compare favorably to those found in previously proposed approaches. We also demonstrate that the increased robustness of the eSTA approach---compared to its STA counterpart---leads to additional advantages for potential experimental realizations of strongly spin-squeezed states in internal bosonic Josephson junctions.

Fast Generation of 2N‐Photon Fock States using Shortcuts to Adiabaticity and Ultrastrong Light–Matter Coupling

Xiaodong Zhou, Sheng Wang, Hao Zhang +5 more

Abstract By using shortcuts to adiabatic (STA) method, the proposal is to implement a fast multi‐photon down‐conversion, which can rapidly create 2N photons from the quantum vacuum based on the counter‐rotating effect of an ultrastrong light–matter coupling. The energy for the produced photons is given by a high‐frequency pump field. The STA method is used to design the driving fields to induce a rapid population transfer. Such an accelerated evolution can restrain the influence of decoherence during the evolution, so as to generate Fock states from vacuum with high fidelities.

Scalable high-fidelity and near-deterministic preparation of large photon-number states

Mo Xiong, Jize Han, Chuanzhen Cao +3 more

The scalable preparation of large photon-number (Fock) states is a long-standing frontier in quantum science, with direct implications for quantum metrology and bosonic quantum information processing. Despite substantial progress at small photon numbers, extending state generation to large photon numbers while maintaining high fidelity and operating deterministically remains a significant challenge. Here we demonstrate a scalable and experimentally accessible control protocol for generating large photon-number states using only native spin--oscillator operations. The protocol alternates Jaynes--Cummings interactions with phase-space displacements to imprint photon-number--dependent phases and convert them into selective interference in photon-number space. It already achieves high preparation fidelity unconditionally, while an optional final qubit projection removes residual qubit--field correlations and further enhances the fidelity. Conditioned on this final projection, photon-number state preparation with fidelities exceeding $0.95$ is achieved for photon numbers in the few-hundred regime, with a success probability exceeding $0.90$, placing the protocol in a near-deterministic operating regime. The resulting control sequences remain shallow and are robust against detuning, control noise, and experimentally relevant dissipation. Our results establish a practical route to scalable, high-fidelity photon-number state preparation at large photon numbers and provide a versatile interference-engineering toolbox for nonclassical bosonic state synthesis.

Fast and Robust Optical Cooling via Shortcut to Adiabaticity

Zhiyu Wang, Jie Lu

Optical cooling is a key technique for preparing ultracold atoms in quantum technologies and precision experiments. We employ shortcut-to-adiabaticity (STA) techniques to accelerate and stabilize laser-based atomic cooling protocols. This approach improves the performance of conventional adiabatic momentum transfer schemes by addressing key limitations such as Doppler shifts, laser intensity fluctuations, and spontaneous emission. We first examine two- and three-level atomic systems subjected to counter-propagating laser pulses that induce momentum reduction through photon recoil. STA methods are then employed to construct pulse sequences that are robust against detuning errors and amplitude noise, outperforming standard π-pulse schemes in resilience. Meanwhile, we analyze the dissipative dynamics during the momentum transfer and demonstrate the superiority of the STA protocol in enhancing momentum transfer efficiency via accelerated control. The results demonstrate that STA can significantly improve both the efficiency and robustness of cooling. These findings have implications for applications in atomic physics, quantum information processing, and precision metrology.
