Abstract

Abstract By using shortcuts to adiabatic (STA) method, the proposal is to implement a fast multi‐photon down‐conversion, which can rapidly create 2N photons from the quantum vacuum based on the counter‐rotating effect of an ultrastrong light–matter coupling. The energy for the produced photons is given by a high‐frequency pump field. The STA method is used to design the driving fields to induce a rapid population transfer. Such an accelerated evolution can restrain the influence of decoherence during the evolution, so as to generate Fock states from vacuum with high fidelities.

Generating microwave photon Fock states in a circuit QED via invariant-based shortcuts to adiabaticity

Run‐Ying Yan, Zhi‐Bo Feng

Abstract Optimal generation of photon Fock states is of significance to quantum science and technology. Here we develop a theoretical scheme for fast generating microwave photon Fock states in a circuit quantum electrodynamics (QED) via invariant-based shortcuts to adiabaticity. A superconducting transmon qubit is dispersively coupled to a cavity field of transmission line resonator. Two classical drivings are applied to a composite system, consisting of a transmon qubit and cavity field. In the two-photon resonance with a large intermediate-level detuning, a single-photon Fock state can be fast created by inversely engineering Rabi couplings. With the assistance of auxiliary driving, qubit state can be initialized for inducing multi-photon Fock states in the shortcut manner. Due to negligible leakage effects and high robustness, our scheme offers a potential way to rapidly prepare photon Fock states with a superconducting qubit in circuit QED.

Deterministic generations of photonic NOON states in cavities via shortcuts to adiabaticity

Jingwei Chen, L. F. Wei

NOON states play an important role in quantum information processing and quantum metrology, but the fidelities of these states generated previously are limited, typically by the practically unavoidable decoherence and operational imperfections. Here, we propose an efficient scheme to generate photonic NOON states alternatively using the rapid population passage technique via the shortcut to adiabaticity (STA), rather than the usual Rabi oscillations. Since the deterministic population passages based on the STAs are insensitive to the details of the operations and can be implemented as fast as the Rabi oscillations, the fidelity of the generated NOON state could be satisfactorily high. The feasibility of the proposal is demonstrated specifically with the experimental circuit QED systems by rapidly driving two artificial qutrits.

Efficient generation of arbitrary photon-number-squeezed light via shortcuts to adiabaticity

Jiawen Yu, Ke-Xiong Yan, Yuan Qiu +3 more

The implementation of shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA) enables a substantial reduction in the evolution time relative to traditional adiabatic methods, concurrently mitigating detrimental environmental interference. In this manuscript, we present a protocol using STA for the one-step generation of squeezed-light states of arbitrary photons. By starting from different initial Fock states, high-fidelity (>0.99) squeezed-light states can be generated with the same control Hamiltonian. We investigate the protocol's robustness under conditions of systematic errors and environmental noises through numerical simulations, which confirm the feasibility of the proposed scheme. The protocol may facilitate the investigation of quantum state control process, with the potential for significant impact in the near future.

Shortcuts to Adiabaticity for the Quantum Rabi Model: Efficient Generation of Giant Entangled Cat States via Parametric Amplification

Ye‐Hong Chen, Wei Qin, Xin Wang +2 more

We propose a method for the fast generation of nonclassical ground states of the Rabi model in the ultrastrong and deep-strong coupling regimes via the shortcuts-to-adiabatic (STA) dynamics. The time-dependent quantum Rabi model is simulated by applying parametric amplification to the Jaynes-Cummings model. Using experimentally feasible parametric drive, this STA protocol can generate large-size Schrödinger cat states, through a process that is ∼10 times faster compared to adiabatic protocols. Such fast evolution increases the robustness of our protocol against dissipation. Our method enables one to freely design the parametric drive, so that the target state can be generated in the lab frame. A largely detuned light-matter coupling makes the protocol robust against imperfections of the operation times in experiments.

Shortcuts to adiabaticity in superconducting circuits for fast multi-partite state generation

F. A. Cárdenas-López, J. C. Retamal, Xi Chen

Abstract Shortcuts to adiabaticity provide a flexible method to accelerate and improve a quantum control task beyond adiabatic criteria. However, their application to the fast generation of multi-partite quantum gates is still not optimized. Here we propose the reverse-engineering approach to design the longitudinal coupling between a set of qubits coupled to several field modes, for achieving a fast generation of multi-partite quantum gates in photonic or qubit-based architecture. We show that the enhancing generation time is at the nanosecond scale that does not scale with the number of system components. In addition, our protocol does not suffer noticeable detrimental effects due to the dissipative dynamics. Finally, the possible implementation is discussed with the state-of-the-art circuit quantum electrodynamics architecture.

Shortcuts to adiabaticity in five-level systems using counter-diabatic driving and time-rescaling optimization

Jiahui Zhang, Wenyuan Wang, Fuquan Dou

Shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA) is a common protocol to realize high-fidelity and robust quantum control in various quantum systems. To date, STA has been widely applied in two- and three-level systems, whereas designing feasible strategies to achieve perfect quantum state engineering in multi-level systems still remains a challenging task. Here, we propose to use counterdiabatic (CD) driving and time-rescaling (TR) methods to construct multi-state stimulated Raman shortcut-to-adiabatic passage protocols for realizing robust and fast population transfer in chainwise-connected five-state systems. The first protocol is implemented by initially reducing the original five-state system to an equivalent two-state counterpart, and then designing the corresponding driving field by combining CD driving and unitary transformation. Further, we introduce the TR method to optimize the first protocol and thus offers an alternative solution. Numerical calculations show that both protocols can achieve complete population transfer and effectively suppress transient populations of all intermediate states. Compared with the first protocol, the optimized second exhibits better performance within a shorter evolution time.
