Abstract

We demonstrated deterministic polarization entanglement generation via wavelength division multiplexing, and prepared four polarization Bell states over three frequency channel pairs. Wavelength-multiplexed polarization entangled states are distributed over 50 km fiber with high fidelity.

Wavelength-multiplexed distribution of highly entangled photon-pairs over optical fiber

Han Chuen Lim, Akio Yoshizawa, Hidemi Tsuchida +1 more

We report the first experimental demonstration of wavelength-multiplexed entanglement distribution over optical fiber. Forty-four channels of polarization-entangled photon-pairs were produced from a single pulse-pumped, short periodically-poled lithium niobate waveguide and distributed over 10 km of dispersion-shifted optical fiber. Entanglement fidelities of the distributed photon-pairs exceeded 0.86 for all selected channels.

Wavelength-Selective Distribution of Polarization Entanglement over Deployed Fiber

Anirudh Ramesh, Joaquín Chung, Gregory S. Kanter +6 more

We demonstrate distribution of polarization entangled photon-pairs across multiple channels in a 6 km loop of deployed fiber. We use an all-optical networking switch to route Bell-state photons in three different wavelength pairs and verify entanglement distribution in all channel pairs by measuring two-photon interference fringes.

Generation and characterization of a source of wavelength division multiplexing quantum key distribution

Atsushi Yabushita, Takayoshi Kobayashi

Using spontaneous parametric down-conversion, photon pairs entangled in frequency and polarization were generated. After frequency resolving the photon pairs, the polarization correlations were measured on several polarization basis, and it was confirmed that the frequency resolved photon pairs were entangled in polarization, indicating the photon pairs can be used as a source of wavelength division multiplexing quantum key distribution.

Multiplexed entangled photon-pair sources for all-fiber quantum networks

Zhi‐Yuan Zhou, Yin‐Hai Li, Lixin Xu +2 more

The ultimate goal of quantum information science is to build a global quantum network, which enables quantum resources to be distributed and shared between remote parties. Such a quantum network can be realized using only fiber elements, thus deriving the advantages of low transmission loss, low cost, scalability, and integrability through mature fiber communication techniques such as dense wavelength division multiplexing. Hence high-quality entangled-photon sources based on fibers are in high demand. Here we report multiplexed polarization- and time-bin-entangled photon-pair sources based on the dispersion-shifted fiber operating at room temperature. The associated high quality of entanglement is characterized using interference, Bell’s inequality, and quantum state tomography. The simultaneous presence of both types of entanglement in multi-channel pairs of a 100-GHz dense wavelength division multiplexing device indicates a great capacity in distributing entangled photons over multiple users. Our design provides a versatile platform and takes a big step toward constructing an all-fiber quantum network.

Experimental wavelength-multiplexed entanglement-based quantum cryptography

Abstract In state-of-the-art quantum key distribution systems, the main limiting factor in increasing the key generation rate is the timing resolution in detecting photons. Here, we present and experimentally demonstrate a strategy to overcome this limitation, also for high-loss and long-distance implementations. We exploit the intrinsic wavelength correlations of entangled photons using wavelength multiplexing to generate a quantum secure key from polarization entanglement. The presented approach can be integrated into both fiber- and satellite-based quantum-communication schemes, without any changes to most types of entanglement sources. This technique features a huge scaling potential allowing to increase the secure key rate by several orders of magnitude as compared to non-multiplexed schemes.
