GPT on a Quantum Computer

Yidong Liao, Christopher Ferrie

Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT have transformed how we interact with and understand the capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI). However, the intersection of LLMs with the burgeoning field of Quantum Machine Learning (QML) is only in its nascent stages. This paper presents an exploration of this niche by detailing a comprehensive framework for implementing the foundational Transformer architecture -- integral to ChatGPT -- within a quantum computing paradigm. We meticulously design quantum circuits that implement adapted versions of the transformer's core components and the generative pre-training phase. By integrating quantum computing with LLMs, we aspire to open new avenues for research in QML and contribute to the ongoing evolution of AI technologies.

Quantum Computing Meets Large Language Models: Insights, Challenges, and Future Directions

Thippa Reddy Gadekallu, Kai Fang, Hailin Feng +7 more

Large Language Models (LLMs) such as GPT and LLaMA have transformed artificial intelligence, but their rapid growth has brought major challenges in computation, energy use, and scalability. Quantum computing (QC) offers a fundamentally different way to process information, with the potential to accelerate key operations in training, inference, optimization, and representation learning. This survey provides a structured and comprehensive review of how QC can support the future development of LLMs. It examines quantum algorithms, hybrid quantum-classical methods, quantum neural networks, quantum embeddings, and security applications. It also evaluates their feasibility in both the current noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) era and the future fault-tolerant era. The survey highlights current progress, identifies major technical barriers, and outlines practical research directions needed to build scalable, efficient, and secure quantum-enhanced language models.

A Detailed Investigation on Potential Impact of Quantum Computing on Improving Artificial Intelligence

Ganesh Nagaraj, Niraj Upadhayaya, Atheer A. Matroud +3 more

Quantum computing is an emerging technology (QC). Several groups and research institutions are working to make quantum computing applications a reality. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is another emerging field that is becoming more established over time. The main goal of this research is to figure out how the advancement of quantum computing technology will affect AI applications. Computational methods are used to explore the growing influence of quantum computing development for a specific AI application. This study also discusses about the impact and potential of Quantum Computing (QC) on Artificial Intelligence (AI). These can be accomplished by employing cutting-edge methods to deliver usable, economically viable, and scalable technology across a wide range of industries. On the other hand, the risk of committing errors in quantum algorithms, as well as the inability to function without being super-cooled, emerges as a major challenge. Macro-energy systems and the development of sustainable energy materials are just two areas of science and engineering that quantum computing has the potential to completely transform.
