Abstract

Abstract An analytical solution describing the dynamics of a hybrid system comprising an interacting quantum dot and a quantum electromagnetic field in the presence of Kerr nonlinearity is obtained. A completely new regime of interaction is found. It provides stable periodically repeating dynamics for the total bipartite system and for the quantum dot excitation, accompanied by full and pure revivals. This is even observed when the initial field state is in a squeezed vacuum. Periodical strong entanglement and full disentanglement between the interacting subsystems are demonstrated. The obtained regime forms the basis for the development of quantum information algorithms and photon–matter interfaces involving these hybrid systems. The formation of non-Gaussian field states is revealed. Methods to control and manage the specific features of the found pure and mixed states of the considered subsystems are developed.

Peculiarities of interaction of a quantum dot with non-classical light in the self-phase modulation regime

Stepan N. Balybin, Roman V. Zakharov, Olga V. Tikhonova

Abstract Influence of the self-phase modulation of quantum light on the induced resonant excitation of a semiconductor quantum dot is studied analytically in the case of the Kerr-nonlinearity of the medium. The phase nonlinearity is found to result actually in a resonance detuning specific for each field photon number state. This effect is shown to provide significant decrease of the excitation efficiency accompanied at the same time by more regular excitation dynamics obtained even for initial squeezed vacuum field state. The enhancement of entanglement between semiconductor and field subsystems with growing non-linearity is demonstrated. As a result, the formation of different types of non-Gaussian field states is found with features being analyzed in details.

Analysis of the Exitation Dynamics in 2D Semiconductor Nanostractures Induced by a Quantum Electromagnetic Field Under the Kerr Phase Modulation

I. A. Tereshchenko, Olga V. Tikhonova

Abstract The peculiarities of the excitation in planar nanostructures induced by a nonclassical field under the impact of cross phase modulation are analyzed. The possibility to controllably enhance a certain excitation channel by varying field frequency detuning from resonance is demonstrated. The effect of formation of entangled two mode field states similar to the Schrodinger’s cat state under the influence of the cross-phase modulation is revealed. The influence of the correlated two mode squeezed vacuum field state is studied and the effect of enhancement of even excitation channels due to photon correlations in the field modes is found. The obtained results open new prospects to control the hybrid electron-photon systems and to develop a fully quantum photon-matter interface on the basis of the 2D nanomaterials.

Atom–atom entanglement dynamics enhancement via classically driven atoms coupled to a non-resonance single mode cavity field filled with nonlinear Kerr media

M. S. Ateto

Entanglement dynamics of two identical non-interacting atoms (qubits) coupled individually with simultaneous classical and quantum fields are studied. The cavity field is filled with a nonlinear Kerr medium and initially prepared in a coherent state. The atoms are initially set up as a Bell-like pure state (BS). We present an approach for diagonalization of time-dependent nonlinear Hamiltonian of the system exactly. Connection between the change in the degree of entanglement and tomography of field state in phase space are also illustrated and interpreted. We demonstrate the possibility of atom–atom (qubit–qubit) entanglement optimization by suitably choosing initial interaction settings. Overall, we show that both classical driving amplitude and detuning as well as Kerr media and initial atomic states acts as the control parameters for the qubit–qubit entanglement. By adjusting of these parameters, accurately, entanglement can be enhanced noticeably and high degree of steady periodical entanglement can be generated. Moreover, starting with initial atomic BSs in presence of classical driving suppresses coherences randomness and considerably accompanied with (for specific values of detuning) slight decrease in their amplitudes. Furthermore, the addition of cross Kerr term suppresses degree of entanglement noticeably, where entanglement creation and enhancement could just be possible if cross Kerr effect is moved out from interaction. Our present approach promises the great advantage of being suitable for large quantum systems of various kinds of nonlinearities.

Features of non-classical light during its interaction with atoms and semiconductor nano-systems

D. V. Popolitova, Olga V. Tikhonova

Abstract The interactions of a three-level atomic system with a single mode of quantized field is investigated analytically. The effect of coherent population trapping is demonstrated for an arbitrary initial quantum field state and the peculiarities of this regime in squeezed vacuum light are found. Mutual influence between atomic and field subsystems and their entanglement arising during the interaction is demonstrated. A significant change of the field state during the interaction is shown. The possibility of photon bunching and anti-bunching and the formation of a quantum field with non-Gaussian properties is found.

Dynamics of entanglement and population inversion of two qubits in a hybrid nonlinear system

Eied Mahmoud Khalil, A.‐B. A. Mohamed

An analytical solution is obtained when the Kerr medium and Stark shift are considered as nonlinear interaction terms to the system containing two-qubit and two-mode electromagnetic field from the parametric amplifier. Dynamics of the population inversion, cavity–qubit and qubit–qubit entanglements are analyzed under the unitary cavity–qubit interaction, the Kerr medium and the Stark shift. The population inversion of a qubit presents periodic revivals and collapses. The results show that the entanglement and the population inversion as well as the inversion have the same stable intervals, that is, the collapse intervals. It is found that the Kerr medium and the Stark shift may lead to reduction of the periods and the amplitudes of the population inversion and the cavity–qubit/qubit–qubit entanglement. The deteriorated qubit–qubit/cavity–qubit entanglement and the population inversion, due to the Kerr medium, may be increased by increasing the Stark shift and vice versa.

Peculiarities of exciton formation in 2D semiconductor nanostructures induced by quantum electromagnetic field under nonlinear self-phase modulation

I. A. Tereshchenko, Olga V. Tikhonova

Abstract Specific features of the excitation of a 2D semiconductor nanosystem by non-classical light in a solid state micro-resonator are found under the impact of the Kerr phase nonlinearity in the cavity. Different regimes of excitation are revealed in dependence on the efficiency of the nonlinearity. A negative impact of the nonlinear self-phase modulation on the excitation is found to be compensated by proper choice of the field frequency detuning. The possibility to controllably enhance a certain excitation channel by varying field frequency detuning is demonstrated and the value of the optimal detuning is found analytically. The effect of transfer of non-classical features from the field to the electronic subsystem is revealed. The formation of the photon-like non-classical excitonic states is demonstrated. The obtained results seem to be a basis for the creation of the light–matter interface and development of quantum information algorithms in solid state nanosystems.
