Abstract

Abstract In the southwest of the Stuttgart region in the state of Baden‐Wuerttemberg, the Quantum Village Ehningen has grown a lot over the past two years – this will continue in the future, with the development of completely new potential for industry, science, and society. On April 18, 2023, the Quantum AI Experience & Innovation Center “Q.AX” opened its doors during a ceremony at the former IBM site in Ehningen, attended by minister‐president Winfried Kretschmann.

Quantum-Centric Supercomputing: Ambitious Plan to Solve the World's Biggest Problems

George, Dr.A.Shaji, A.S.Hovan George, A.S.Gabrio Martin

Quantum-centric supercomputing has the potential to revolutionize various fields by offering unprecedented computational power to tackle the world's most pressing problems. This research survey aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of quantum computing, the current state of quantum-centric supercomputers, and their potential applications in solving global challenges. We explore the basic concepts underlying quantum computing, including qubits, superposition, entanglement, and quantum algorithms. Furthermore, we examine the existing and proposed architectures of quantum-centric supercomputers, as well as recent technological advancements and breakthroughs. The paper also discusses the application of these advanced computational systems in areas such as climate modeling, drug discovery, cryptography, and artificial intelligence. Finally, we address the future directions and opportunities for quantum-centric supercomputing, including technological advances, research collaborations, and policy and ethical considerations. Our findings underscore the transformative potential of quantum-centric supercomputing and the need for continued research and development to fully harness its capabilities for addressing the world's most critical problems.

Enabling and Accelerating Quantum Computing with AI Supercomputing

Mark Wolf

Abstract In the last few years, generative AI has become a revolutionary technology impacting every corner of science and industry, including quantum computing. As quantum computers continue to mature, they will integrate with supercomputers to solve some of the hardest problems in the world. Quantum computers are extremely complex, and both their design and operation face numerous physics and engineering challenges. Fortunately, the combination of AI and supercomputing hardware is well suited to address many of these challenges and is already beginning to accelerate progress across the quantum ecosystem. This chapter will survey some key AI for quantum applications being explored and discuss their implications for quantum strategy.

The Coming Quantum Boom: A Century After Quantum Mechanics Was Described, a Vibrant Industry Blooms

Harry Goldstein

Why build an industry around a scale that cuts across established verticals? This question occurred to me on a long flight to Paris, to attend the opening ceremony of the 2025 International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, at UNESCO headquarters last month. I was part of an IEEE delegation led by 2025 IEEE President Kathleen Kramer. The event celebrated the 100th anniversary of several seminal quantum-science publications including Wolfgang Pauli's paper on his exclusion principle and Werner Heisenberg's “Quantum-Theoretical Re-interpretation of Kinematic and Mechanical Relations.”
