Abstract

Triggered by the case that a government employee successfully forged a bank card in 1982, NTT established the first research group on cryptography around the same time.NTT Secure Platform Laboratories has contributed to building a firm theoretical ground for cryptography while developing cryptographic technologies that can respond to the changes in evolving communication and computing environments. In this article, research activities of NTT Secure Platform Laboratories on cryptography and information security technologies-in preparation for the emergence of rapidly developing quantum computers-are discussed.

Development of Modern Cryptography and Research on Quantum Cryptography

Masayuki Abe

The foundation of modern cryptography developed in 1976 considered security by modeling adversaries as polynomial-time Turing machines. However, recent advances in developing a general-purpose quantum computer have made a significant impact on modern cryptography because it overturns the security model.NTT's research on cryptography aims to provide technologies to ensure the security of modern information systems and create applications when quantum computers become widespread. This article reviews the 40 years of cryptologic research at NTT and outlines our current efforts.

Research of Cryptographic Protocols for Secure Communications in the Quantum Computer Era

Takashi Yamakawa

The development of quantum computers has been progressing rapidly in recent years based on principles fundamentally different from those of conventional computers. It is known that they can be used to break many of the encryption schemes that are now in actual use.To counter this threat, there is a need for "postquantum cryptography" that cannot be broken even by quantum computers. In this interview, we asked NTT Distinguished Researcher Takashi Yamakawa to tell about his research in solving such social issues using cryptography.

Research in the field of quantum-safe cryptography

Т. С. Берестяна

Quantum computing, based on the principles of quantum mechanics, is rapidly gaining momentum as a promising field of information technology. However, with the growing capabilities of quantum computing comes a new level of cybersecurity.Quantum-secure cryptography is emerging as a response to the potential threats posed by quantum computers to traditional cryptographic methods. The main goal of quantum-secure cryptography is to ensure the security of data in information systems, as quantum computing becomes more and more accessible. In this study, we thoroughly studied the essence of quantum-secure cryptography, its fundamental principles and applications. We have explored the advantages and limitations of this new cryptographic paradigm and discussed the potential challenges that arise in the context of its implementation. In addition, we analyzed the current state of research in the field of quantum-secure cryptography and highlighted the prospects for further development of this intriguing technology. We have researched potential threats and possible ways to solve them.Additionally, we reviewed a quantum risk assessment methodology that helps identify and manage threats in the context of quantum security. Finally, we trace existing examples and recent developments in the field of quantum-secure cryptography, revealing their potential to improve information security in the future.Overall, the research allows for a better understanding of the importance and prospects of quantum-secure cryptography in today's digital world.

Emerging Cryptographic Techniques

Jayant Mehra, Harwant Singh Arri, Dhiraj Kapila +6 more

The main focus of this paper is to find out the emerging and future scope of cryptography. Using the principles of quantum physics, quantum cryptography is a revolutionary technique that enables two parties to protect network communications. The theory of quantum cryptography and how this technology improves network security are the main topics of this research study. This article encapsulates the state of quantum encryption at present, practical application implementations of this expertise, and ultimately the future course that quantum cryptography will take. The ease of authentication via fingerprint, eye, voice, palm, and other biometrics is expressly stated by biometric cryptography. Biometric verification provides more security than would be comfortably provided by conventional cryptography-based confirmation. A rapidly developing field of technology is DNA cryptography, which uses DNA computing principles.
