Abstract

Considering the position-dependent effective mass in the study of quantum mechanical systems, a wide range of solvable potentials has been obtained. These potentials are obtained by applying canonical transformations to the Schrödinger equation. In this method, the internal functions introduced by Levai for solvable potentials with constant mass have been used, and the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues have been fully obtained. The eigenfunction of these solvable potentials can be obtained based on specific known functions (Jacobian, generalized Laguerre, and Hermit polynomials). Some of these potentials are Scarf-II, Pöschl-Teller, Rosen-Mörse-II and Eckart, whose applications have been described in physical systems. Finally, all the results are placed in a table and the figures of the desired functions is drawn for specific values

Coordinate Transformation and Exact Solutions of Schrödinger Equation with Position-Dependent Effective Mass

Ju Guo-Xing, Cai Chang-Ying, Xiang Yang +1 more

Using the coordinate transformation method, we solve the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation with position-dependent mass. The explicit expressions for the potentials, energy eigenvalues, and eigenfunctions of the systems are given. The eigenfunctions can be expressed in terms of the Jacobi, Hermite, and generalized Laguerre polynomials. All potentials for these solvable systems have an extra term V m , which is produced from the dependence of mass on the position, compared with those for the systems of constant mass. The properties of V m for several mass functions are discussed.

Effective Mass Schrodinger Equation for Exactly Solvable Class of One-Dimensional Potentials

Metin Aktaş, R. Sever

We deal with the exact solutions of Schrodinger equation characterized by position-dependent effective mass via point canonical transformations. The Morse, Poschl-Teller and Hulthen type potentials are considered respectively. With the choice of position-dependent mass forms, exactly solvable target potentials are constructed. Their energy of the bound states and corresponding wavefunctions are determined exactly.

Solutions of the nonrelativistic wave equation with position-dependent effective mass

Abdulaziz D Alhaidari

Given a spatially dependent mass distribution, we obtain potential functions for exactly solvable nonrelativistic problems. The energy spectrum of the bound states and their wave functions are written down explicitly. This is accomplished by mapping the wave equation for these systems into well-known exactly solvable Schr\"odinger equations with constant mass using point canonical transformation. The Oscillator, Coulomb, and Morse class of potentials are considered.

Position-Dependent Mass Schrödinger Equation for the Morse Potential

Gerardo Ovando, José Juan Peña, J. Morales +1 more

The position dependent mass Schrödinger equation (PDMSE) has a wide range of quantum applications such as the study of semiconductors, quantum wells, quantum dots and impurities in crystals, among many others. On the other hand, the Morse potential is one of the most important potential models used to study the electronic properties of diatomic molecules. In this work, the solution of the effective mass one-dimensional Schrödinger equation for the Morse potential is presented. This is done by means of the canonical transformation method in algebraic form. The PDMSE is solved for any model of the proposed kinetic energy operators as for example the BenDaniel-Duke, Gora-Williams, Zhu-Kroemer or Li-Kuhn. Also, in order to solve the PDMSE with Morse potential, we consider a superpotential leading to a special form of the exactly solvable Schrödinger equation of constant mass for a class of multiparameter exponential-type potential along with a proper mass distribution. The proposed approach is general and can be applied in the search of new potentials suitable on science of materials by looking into the viable choices of the mass function.

Exactly solvable effective mass Schrödinger equation with coulomb‐like potential

C. Pacheco‐García, Jesús García‐Ravelo, J. Morales +1 more

Abstract Exactly solvable Schrödinger equation (SE) with a position‐dependent mass distribution allowing Morse‐like eigenvalues is presented. For this, the position‐dependent mass Schrödinger equation is transformed into a standard SE, with constant mass, by means of the point canonical transformation scheme. In that method, the choice of potential for the position‐dependent mass Schrödinger equation allows us to obtain the transformation that should be used to find the exactly solvable SE. As a useful application of the proposal, the equivalent of the Witten superpotential is chosen to be constant to find the position‐dependent mass distribution and the exactly solvable potential V(m(x)) allowing Morse‐type energy spectra. This V(m(x)) is shown to have a Coulomb potential structure and can be useful in the study of the electronic properties of materials in which the carrier effective mass depends on the position. Moreover, the worked example, the approach is general and can be applied in the search of new potentials suitable on the study of quantum chemical systems. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
