Solutions of the nonrelativistic wave equation with position-dependent effective mass

Abstract

Given a spatially dependent mass distribution, we obtain potential functions for exactly solvable nonrelativistic problems. The energy spectrum of the bound states and their wave functions are written down explicitly. This is accomplished by mapping the wave equation for these systems into well-known exactly solvable Schr\"odinger equations with constant mass using point canonical transformation. The Oscillator, Coulomb, and Morse class of potentials are considered.

Effective Mass Schrodinger Equation for Exactly Solvable Class of One-Dimensional Potentials

Metin Aktaş, R. Sever

We deal with the exact solutions of Schrodinger equation characterized by position-dependent effective mass via point canonical transformations. The Morse, Poschl-Teller and Hulthen type potentials are considered respectively. With the choice of position-dependent mass forms, exactly solvable target potentials are constructed. Their energy of the bound states and corresponding wavefunctions are determined exactly.

On the solutions of the position-dependent effective mass Schrödinger equation of a nonlinear oscillator related with the isotonic oscillator

R. A. Kraenkel, Murugaian Senthilvelan

We study exact solutions of the position-dependent effective mass Schrodinger equation by considering the new solvable nonlinear oscillator that relates to the isotonic oscillator through the method of point canonical transformations. We construct exactly solvable potentials by choosing physically important position-dependent mass distributions. We also provide the energy spectrum of the bound states and the wavefunctions of the solvable potentials.

Dirac equation with position-dependent effective mass and solvable potentials in the Schrödinger equation

H. Panahi, Zahra Bakhshi

We study the one-dimensional non-Hermitian imaginary potential with a real energy spectrum in the framework of the position-dependent effective mass Dirac equation. The Dirac equation is mapped into the exactly solvable Schrödinger-like equation endowed with position-dependent effective mass that we present a new procedure to solve it. The point canonical transformation in non-relativistic quantum mechanics is applied as an algebraic method to obtain the mass function and then by using the obtained mass function, the imaginary potential can be obtained. The spinor wavefunctions for some of the obtained electrostatic potentials are given in terms of orthogonal polynomials. We also obtain the relativistic bound state spectrum for each case in terms of the bound state spectrum of the solvable potentials.

Exactly solvable effective mass Schrödinger equation with coulomb‐like potential

C. Pacheco‐García, Jesús García‐Ravelo, J. Morales +1 more

Abstract Exactly solvable Schrödinger equation (SE) with a position‐dependent mass distribution allowing Morse‐like eigenvalues is presented. For this, the position‐dependent mass Schrödinger equation is transformed into a standard SE, with constant mass, by means of the point canonical transformation scheme. In that method, the choice of potential for the position‐dependent mass Schrödinger equation allows us to obtain the transformation that should be used to find the exactly solvable SE. As a useful application of the proposal, the equivalent of the Witten superpotential is chosen to be constant to find the position‐dependent mass distribution and the exactly solvable potential V(m(x)) allowing Morse‐type energy spectra. This V(m(x)) is shown to have a Coulomb potential structure and can be useful in the study of the electronic properties of materials in which the carrier effective mass depends on the position. Moreover, the worked example, the approach is general and can be applied in the search of new potentials suitable on the study of quantum chemical systems. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. On the position-dependent mass Schrödinger equation for Mie-type potentials

Gerardo Ovando, José Juan Peña, J. Morales +1 more

Abstract The exactly solvable Position Dependent Mass Schrödinger Equation (PDMSE) for Mie-type potentials is presented. To that, by means of a point canonical transformation the exactly solvable constant mass Schrödinger equation is transformed into a PDMSE. The mapping between both Schrödinger equations lets obtain the energy spectra and wave functions for the potential under study. This happens for any selection of the O von Roos ambiguity parameters involved in the kinetic energy operator. The exactly solvable multiparameter exponential-type potential for the constant mass Schrödinger equation constitutes the reference problem allowing to solve the PDMSE for Mie potentials and mass functions of the form given by m(x) = skx s-1/(xs + 1))2. Thereby, as a useful application of our proposal, the particular Lennard-Jones potential is presented as an example of Mie potential by considering the mass distribution m(x) = 6kx 5/(x 6 + 1))2. The proposed method is general and can be straightforwardly applied to the solution of the PDMSE for other potential models and/or with different position-dependent mass distributions.

A new approach to the exact solutions of the effective mass Schrödinger equation

C. Tezcan, R. Sever

Effective mass Schrödinger equation is solved exactly for a given potential. Nikiforov-Uvarov method is used to obtain energy eigenvalues and the corresponding wave functions. A free parameter is used in the transformation of the wave function. The effective mass Schrödinger equation is also solved for the Morse potential transforming to the constant mass Schrödinger equation for a potential. One can also get solution of the effective mass Schrödinger equation starting from the constant mass Schrödinger equation.
