Abstract

Quantum image representation is an important research direction of quantum image processing, which mainly studies the use of quantum properties to encode and store images. At present, most quantum image representation models store image grayscale-related information, but lack histogram-related information. A few quantum representation models that store image histogram information cannot accurately retrieve the image, resulting in the difficulty of quantum image histogram processing. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved order-encoded quantum image representation model ONEQR, which uses the quantum basis state sequence to store the grayscale information, real position information and ascending position information of the image, which can not only solve the problem of inability to accurately retrieve the image, but also store the histogram information of the image, which is convenient for the implementation of the histogram processing algorithm of quantum image; In addition, based on ONEQR, a quantum image representation model MULTI-ONEQR that stores multiple images is proposed, and based on this model, a quantum image histogram specification (HS) algorithm is proposed, which can use quantum properties to complete image HS in parallel. Finally, the simulation experiment of the HS algorithm based on the ONEQR model is carried out to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm.

An improved novel quantum image representation and its experimental test on IBM quantum experience

Jie Su, Xuchao Guo, Chengqi Liu +2 more

Quantum image representation (QIR) is a necessary part of quantum image processing (QIP) and plays an important role in quantum information processing. To address the problems that NCQI cannot handle images with inconsistent horizontal and vertical position sizes and multi-channel image processing, an improved color digital image quantum representation (INCQI) model based on NCQI is proposed in this paper. The INCQI model can process color images and facilitate multi-channel quantum image transformations and transparency information processing of images using auxiliary quantum bits. In addition, the quantum image control circuit was designed based on INCQI. And quantum image preparation experiments were conducted on IBM Quantum Experience (IBMQ) to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of INCQI quantum image preparation. The prepared image information was obtained by quantum measurement in the experiment, and the visualization of quantum information was successfully realized. The research in this paper has some reference value for the research related to QIP.

An improved bit-plane representation of quantum image

Jiale Mu, Xiaofei Li, Xiang-Hua Zhang +1 more

Abstract The quantum image representation based on bit-planes (BRQI) is a widely used model in quantum image processing. It utilizes both the superposition and entanglement properties to store the position and color information of an image effectively, but the time complexity is still high(O(2qn22n)). Here, we propose an improved BRQI model, which still uses log2 q + 1 qubits to represent the color information, and has a low time complexity(O(qn22n)). When storing the value of bit-plane, it can use only one controlled operation to store the values of two adjacent bit-planes at the same time, makes the time and space complexity significantly reduced. Moreover, we design a corresponding quantum image compression algorithm. Simulation experimental results show that the compression efficiency of this model is also better than that of the widely used models NEQR and BRQI, and the time complexity of quantum image representation is further reduced. Hence, our findings will be helpful for further developing the quantum image representation and compression algorithm.

NGQR: A Novel Generalized Quantum Image Representation

Zheng Xing, Xiaochen Yuan, Chan–Tong Lam +1 more

To address the size limitations of existing quantum image models in terms of accurate image representation, as well as inaccurate image operation and retrieval, we propose a Novel Generalized Quantum Image Representation (NGQR) for images of arbitrary size and type. For generalizing the size model, we first propose the Perception-Aided Encoding (PE) method to perceive the target qubits in the quantum information. Based on PE, we propose the quantum image representation PE-NGQR, which accurately ignores redundant information thereby targeting valid pixels for operations and retrieval. Then, to accurately represent the needed pixel information without redundancy, we propose the Coherent-Size Encoding (CE) method. The CE can encode an arbitrary number of quantum states. Based on CE, we propose CE-NGQR, a quantum image model capable of accurate image representation, processing and retrieval. Specifically, we describe in detail the concept, representation and quantum circuits of NGQR. We provide detailed quantum circuits and simulations of NGQR-based operations and geometric transformations. Moreover, NGQR enables flexible quantum image scaling. We illustrate the complementarity of the proposed PE-NGQR and CE-NGQR through complexity simulations and clarify the respective applicability scenarios. Finally, comparisons and analyses with existing quantum image models demonstrate the versatility and flexibility advantages of NGQR.

A Quantum Algorithm Of Constructing Image Histogram

Yi Zhang, Kai Jian Lu, Yinghui Gao +1 more

Histogram plays an important statistical role in digital image processing. However, the existing quantum image models are deficient to do this kind of image statistical processing because different gray scales are not distinguishable. In this paper, a novel quantum image representation model is proposed firstly in which the pixels with different gray scales can be distinguished and operated simultaneously. Based on the new model, a fast quantum algorithm of constructing histogram for quantum image is designed. Performance comparison reveals that the new quantum algorithm could achieve an approximately quadratic speedup than the classical counterpart. The proposed quantum model and algorithm have significant meanings for the future researches of quantum image processing.

An RGB Multi-Channel Representation for Images on Quantum Computers

Bo Sun, Abdullah M. Iliyasu, Fei Yan +2 more

RGB multi channel representation is proposed for images on quantum computers (MCQI) that captures information about colors (RGB channels) and their corresponding positions in an image in a normalized quantum state. The proposed representation makes it possible to store the RGB information about an image simultaneously by using 2n+3 qubits for encoding 2n× 2npixel images, whereas pixel-wise processing is necessary in many other quantum image representations, e.g., qubit lattice, grid qubit, and quantum lattice. Simulation of storage and retrieval of MCQI images using human facial images demonstrated that 15 qubits are required for encoding 64 × 64 colored images, and encoded information is retrieved by measurement. Perspectives of designing quantum image operators are also discussed based onMCQI representation, e.g., channel of interest, channel swapping, and restrict version of color transformation.

The Storage and Retrieval Technologies of Quantum Images

Quantum image processing represents an emerging image processing technology by taking advantage of quantum computation. Quantum image processing faces the first question: How is an image stored in and retrieved from a quantum system? To solve the issue, the authors provide six quantum image representations, which can be divided into three categories. The first, second, and third categories store color information using amplitudes, phases, and basis states, respectively. Next, they design their circuits to implement the storage of quantum image. Then, retrieval methods are introduced. The storage and retrieval technologies of quantum image are the basis and premise condition to process quantum images.
