Quantum image representation (QIR) is a necessary part of quantum image processing (QIP) and plays an important role in quantum information processing. To address the problems that NCQI cannot handle images with inconsistent horizontal and vertical position sizes and multi-channel image processing, an improved color digital image quantum representation (INCQI) model based on NCQI is proposed in this paper. The INCQI model can process color images and facilitate multi-channel quantum image transformations and transparency information processing of images using auxiliary quantum bits. In addition, the quantum image control circuit was designed based on INCQI. And quantum image preparation experiments were conducted on IBM Quantum Experience (IBMQ) to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of INCQI quantum image preparation. The prepared image information was obtained by quantum measurement in the experiment, and the visualization of quantum information was successfully realized. The research in this paper has some reference value for the research related to QIP.

In order to develop and validate the quantum image processing algorithm on quantum computer, combined with quantum computing operation on IBM quantum experiment platform (IBM Q) and quantum image processing theory, a quantum image segmentation method based on IBM Q platform was designed. An improved enhanced quantum representation (IEQR) was proposed based on the existing novel enhanced quantum representation (NEQR). The quantum image segmentation circuit, which consists of the quantum bit string comparator (QBSC) and the Controlswap (Cswap) gate, is initialized according to the IEQR. Finally, quantum image segmentation of 2×2 and 4×4 size images are realized on IBM Q and local classical computer simulator. The experimental results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm and the superiority of quantum computers is validated.
Quantum image processing is a new and exciting subdiscipline of quantum computation that aims to extend classical image processing applications on a quantum computer. The research starts with a proposal of a representation of images on a quantum computer, named Multi-Channel Representation for Quantum Images (MCQI).This representation encodes the positions and their corresponding colors in the images as a normalized quantum state. For an n by n sized image, 2n qubits and 3 qubits are used to carry the position and color respectively. The preparation procedure of a quantum image is discussed by the multi-channel polynomial preparation, which turns the initial quantum states to the MC-QI quantum states. The image retrieval procedure by quantum measurement is proposed which converts the quantum states to classical images.Furthermore, based on MCQI, some categories of possible processing transformations are suggested.By considering the structure of MCQI representation, the Channel of Interest (CoI), the Channel Swapping (CS), the Color Space Transformation (CST), and Alpha Blending (αB) quantum image processing operators are discussed using unitary transformations with low complexity. All the 4 operators are used to process the information about color in the images.Their complexity are analyzed in terms of the number of basic quantum gates which are needed to build the transformations, and they can be built by 9, 3, 287, 28 basic quantum gates, respectively. Some strategies for designing new transformations from known ones are proposed as well. These strategies can be used to design further algorithms for image processing.Based on the MCQI representation and the four image processing operators, a quantum measurement based double-key double-domain watermarking strategy for multichannel quantum images (MC-WaQI) is developed. In these application, a revised of the original MCQI representation and some restricted versions of the transformations are considered. The research provides the foundation to design other quantum image processing algorithms and can be extend to the following areas:• MCQI representation can be used to build quantum image database,• new frequency operations on quantum images based on quantum Fourier quantum discrete cosine, and quantum wavelet transformations,• building the special effect on color quantum movie,• image data transmission by quantum communication.
Quantum image processing (QIP) has become one of the most significant fields in quantum computing (QC); it merges quantum mechanics with image processing to improve classical image-processing speed, which involves various operations to advance quantum image representation (QIR). Accordingly, we introduce two new QIRs: The first is based on the wavelength and bit plane, called the quantum image representation bit plane (QIRBP), and the second is based on the wavelength and adjacency pixels, which is called the quantum image representation wavelength correlation (QIRWC). The QIRBP model uses $ b+2n+6 $ quantum bit (qubits) to store a digital color image of size $ {2}^{n}\times {2}^{n} $. In contrast, the QIRWC needs $ 2b+4n+8 $ qubits to store a digital color image of size $ {2}^{n}\times {2}^{n} $ and to entangle the wavelength between two neighboring pixels. While the QIRWC approach is more complex, it is also more efficient on the basis of the transformation data. The complexity arises from the level of information being transmitted. In this work, two new representation methods (QIRBP and QIRWC) are proposed to overcome existing QIR weaknesses by enhancing storage efficiency, enabling compact high-resolution representation, improving data transformation through wavelength correlation and pixel adjacency, reducing noise, achieving greater versatility, and advancing scalable QIR. To prove the efficiency of the proposed methods, they were analyzed and compared with other efficient quantum image representations, outlining their similar and different aspects.
Quantum image representation plays an important role in quantum image processing. In this paper, a bitplane representation of quantum images (BRQI) is proposed, which uses (n+4) or (n+6) qubits to store a grayscale or RGB color image of 2npixels. Compared with a novel enhanced quantum representation (NEQR), and a novel quantum representation of color digital images (NCQI), the storage capacity of BRQI improves 16 times and 218times, respectively. Next, some quantum operations based on BRQI are proposed, these operations including complement of colors, reverse of bitplanes, and translation of bitplanes. Analyzed the implementation circuits of these operations, the result indicates that these operations based on BRQI have lower quantum cost than NEQR and NCQI. Furthermore, an image scrambling algorithm based on BRQI is presented by combining the above operations. Simulation experiments and performance analysis show that proposed scrambling algorithm is effective and efficient.
Quantum image representation is an essential component of quantum image processing and plays a critical role in quantum information processing. Flexible Representation of Quantum Images (FRQI) presents pixel colors and associated locations as a state to represent images on quantum computers. A fundamental part of the quantum image processing system is quantum image compression (QIC), which is utilized to maintain and retrieve binary images. This compression allows us to minimize the number of controlled rotation gates in the quantum circuits. This paper designed optimized quantum circuits and simulated them using Qiskit on a real quantum computer based on minimum boolean expressions to retrieve the 8×4 binary single-digit images. To demonstrate the feasibility and efficacy of quantum image representation, quantum circuits for images were developed using FRQI, and quantum image representation experiments were done on IBM Quantum Experience (IBMQ). We were able to visualize quantum information by doing the quantum measurement on the image information that we had prepared. Without utilizing this method, the number of controlled rotation gates is equal to the number of pixels in the image; however, we showed that by using the QIC algorithm, we could decrease the number of gates significantly. On these images, the maximum and minimum compression ratios of QIC are 90.63% and 68.75%, respectively.
A Multi-Channel Representation for Quantum Image (MCRQI) is proposed to facilitate the further image processing tasks based on the Flexible Representation for Quantum Image (FRQI). Channel Swapping Operation, One Channel Operation, are proposed as basic image processing operations on MCRQI representation. The simulation experiment results on classical computer show that the channel information of R G B (color) and α (transparency) can be carried easily on quantum computer by employing three qubits to represent the color space, and also indicate that this MCRQI is very flexible to realize some classic-like operations. The MCRQI provides a foundation not only express image in RGBα color space, but also to explore theoretical and practical aspects of image processing on quantum computer.
