Abstract

Photon-gated organic materials have been received great attention in the frequency domain optical storage, because of the high photoresponsive ability, the convenience of preparating film and controllable composition of materials. However, the dependence of the frequency for hole burning efficiency[1] and the hole width to be broadened accomponying with rising working temperature for hole burning[2] set up a limitation for the optical storage density.

The importance of photon-gated persistent spectral hole burning for scientific studies and for frequency domain optical storage (FDOS) has stimulated much recent research to discover new photon-gated materials. For FDOS the practical materials should posses the characteristics of high hole formation efficiency, large multiplicity of spectral hole, good thermal and spectral stability etc.

Polarization photon-gated persistent spectral hole burning

Zhao Lizeng, Xiaomei Zhang, Yong Hua Qin +5 more

Polarization photon-gated persistent spectral hole burning (PSHB) was performed for the meso-phenyl-tetrabenzoporphyrinato-zinc–aromatic cyanide system. Excellent signal-to-noise ratio was obtained. The polarization dependence of the gating effect was observed and studied. Hole filling was investigated in the polarization photon-gated PSHB. Over 100 photon-gated holes have been burned and detected for this system by polarization spectroscopy.

Thermally Induced Hole-filling Process In Donor-acceptor Electron Transfer System

Ming Tian, Tiejun Chang, Jiahua Zhang +3 more

Photon-gated spectral hole-burning in the organic donor-acceptor electron transfer system has attracted extensively interests because of its application background in frequency-domain optical storage. Several materials have been investigated from the aspects in hole-burning process[1–3], such as photon-gating effect, temperature dependence of hole width and hole-burning efficiency. A few works on hole-filling processes have been done[4], however, the filling mechanisms are not clear now.

Photon gated persistent spectral hole burning for the meso-tetra-p-tolyl-Zn-tetrabenzoporphyrin/chloroform system in poly(methylmethacrylate): temperature dependence

W. Patrick Ambrose, W. E. Moerner

Persistent spectral hole burning has been utilized as both a tool for studying relaxation processes in amorphous solids1 and a means for possibly achieving high density frequency domain optical storage.2 In photon-gated hole burning, two photons (ideally of different wavelengths) are required to induce the photochemical reaction leading to hole formation. In effect, the first photon produces the site selection, and the second photon acts as a gate on the photochemistry.

Photon-Gated Spectral Hole-Burning in a Polymer Doped with a Mixture of Several Zn-Benzoporphyrin Derivatives

B. Luo, Jean‐Pierre Galaup

Photochemical spectral hole-burning (PSHB) has attracted particular attention in the past decade because of its potential for frequency domain optical storage. In order to apply PSHB to a practical optical memory, the material should have high burning temperature, high thermal stability, erasability and high frequency multiplexing. Two ways are possible to increase the storage density: one is to narrow the homogeneous line width, the other is to broaden the inhomogeneous line width. In previous works, the larger inhomogeneous line width (greater than 1,000 cm–1) has been reached in polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) doped with two kinds of Zn-benzoporphyrin derivatives with roughly the same hole-burning efficiencies [1]. In this paper, the authors investigate systematically the optical properties of Zn-benzoporphyrin derivatives, their hole-burning mechanisms, thermal stability and electron-phonon coupling in cellulose acetate (CA) and in PMMA matrices. The choice of CA was motivated mainly by the fact this polymer allows to prepare samples with excellent optical quality.
