Abstract

In this paper, an improved multiple-image authentication based on optical interference by wavelength multiplexing is proposed, which has high security and easy optical implementation. The Fresnel spectra of original images are diffracted from the same axial position but by different wavelengths, which makes the optical implementation easy and stable without any mechanical translation. Then, the Fresnel spectra are sparsely sampled by predesigned binary amplitude masks and diffracted again, and all spectra are multiplexed into one synthetized spectrum. Finally, the synthetized spectrum is analytically decomposed into one phase-only mask and one amplitude-only mask by an improved interference-based encryption (IBE) scheme. Benefiting from the wavelength multiplexing, the encryption capacity is enlarged, and the optical implementation for decryption becomes easy. With the aid of the sparse sampling, every decrypted image could be entirely unrecognizable but authenticated by nonlinear correlation. Moreover, instead of a conventional IBE, an improved IBE is used in this scheme, which can attenuate the information leakage and further enhance the security. Various numerical simulation results are presented to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of this scheme.

Interference-based Multiple-image Encryption by Position and Wavelength Multiplexing

秦怡 Qin Yi, 刘旭焱 LIU Xu-yan, 巩琼 Gong Qiong

A novel interference-based multiple-image encryption method with high encryption capacity was proposed by position and wavelength multiplexing. For encryption, the original images to be encrypted were divided into two groups, and each group of target images was analytically hidden into two phase only masks by position multiplexing.Subsequently the obtained four phase only masks were further merged into two diffractive phase elements by wavelength multiplexing. The encryption process did not need iterative algorithm and should be implemented digitally, while the decryption process could be performed both digitally and optically. The encryption capacity of the system was evaluated with correlation coefficient, and it was shown that the capacity was greatly improved due to the introduction of both position and wavelength multiplexing. In addition, the robustness of the proposal against noise and occlusion was also investigated, and the results indicated that the proposal is of high robust against noise attack but a little vulnerable to occlusion attack.

Optical asymmetric double-image encryption and authentication in an interference-based scheme using sparse representation

Guangyu Luan, Caojun Huang

We report an optical asymmetric scheme for double-image encryption and authentication based on interference using sparse representation. We employ sparse representation and interference to process the Fresnel spectra related with the two original images, and then respectively acquire two ciphertexts and two pairs of private keys. Each original image possesses its corresponding two private keys. Furthermore, the decrypted image is compared with its corresponding plaintext with the aid of a nonlinear correlation for authentication. In the proposed scheme, any information concerning each primary image and comprising its silhouette cannot be recognized even though one, two, or even three masks of the two ciphertexts and two private keys are utilized for decryption. The Fresnel spectrum functions which have different diffraction distances enhance the security of the proposal significantly. Moreover, the proposal also avoids the crosstalk problem. The effectiveness and security of this proposed method are demonstrated via numerical simulations.

Interference-based multiple-image encryption and authentication via lateral shift multiplexing and sparsification

Guangyu Luan, Caojun Huang, Dong‐Xin Wang

We report a novel optical method of interference-based multiple-image encryption and authentication via lateral shift multiplexing and sparsification. We encode multiple original images into two ciphertexts only containing partial information of the multiple images when the secret key generated randomly is laterally movable within a predefined interval, and we analytically derive the two other keys of each original image. Information discrimination for each original image as well as its silhouette is still prohibited in spite of the utilization of one, two, three, or even four masks for decryption. The three secret keys of each original image significantly improve the security of the proposed method, and binary amplitude masks are included in the decryption and authentication procedure. Moreover, the proposed scheme completely eliminates the cross-talk problem and destroys any high correlation between the plaintexts and ciphertexts. Numerical simulations are executed to prove the effectiveness and security of this scheme.

Optical multiple-image authentication scheme based on the phase retrieval algorithm in gyrator domain

Liansheng Sui, Xiao Zhang, Ailing Tian

Abstract A novel optical multiple-image authentication scheme based on the phase retrieval algorithm is presented in gyrator domain. According to a plain image, only one phase-only mask is obtained as the encrypted result by using the proposed phase retrieval algorithm, which has a fast convergence rate and good performance on mean square error. Afterwards, the sparsely encrypted distribution is extracted from the phase-only mask by selecting a certain percentage of pixels randomly. Different from other multiple-image authentication system based on space multiplexing, all sparsely encrypted distributions of plain images are finally integrated into the ciphertext by making use of the inter-modulation operation of phase masks, where the decryption process can be performed efficiently without any cross-talk noise and the encrypted capacity is nearly unlimited. Only when the secret keys are correct, the content of the plain images can be authenticated, in which the authentication process can be implemented optically by using the architecture of double random phase encoding. Simulation results are given to demonstrate the feasibility and robustness of the proposed scheme.

Simultaneous authentication verification of multiple secured images using joint transform correlation approach

Naveen Kumar Nishchal, Areeba Fatima

Optical techniques have been widely studied for securing and validating information, which is one of the most important challenges of the present time. In this work, we study simultaneous authentication of multiple input encrypted images which have been multiplexed in a single plane. The interference-based encryption architecture is used to generate two phase masks for each distinct image, which would serve as the phase lock and the phase key. The phases are made sparse by randomly retaining few pixels of the phase values. The phase locks corresponding to different images are then multiplexed in a single plane. For authenticating the phase masks, the concept of nonlinear correlation has been applied, which offer better correlation peaks than the conventional joint transform correlators. The proposed idea aims to achieve simultaneous encryption and authentication of multiple images and overcomes the constraints of storage issue.

Asymmetric image encryption and authentication in interference-based scheme using random modulus decomposition

Guangyu Luan, Dongxin Wang, Caojun Huang

A scheme for asymmetric image encryption and authentication based on interference is proposed here by using sparse representation and random modulus decomposition. An original image is encoded into a complex value image in the Fresnel domain and then sparsely sampled to acquire the sparse spectrum. The sparse spectrum generates four phase-only masks using random modulus decomposition and the interference principle. No information concerning the original image, including its silhouette, can be extracted even if one, two, or three of the four phase-only masks are used for decryption. The parameters of random modulus decomposition provide additional keys for further strengthening the security of our scheme, and the four phase-only masks are all employed for decryption and authentication. Numerical simulations are used to verify the feasibility and security of this scheme.
