Optical measurement of double-dot population using photon transmission via three coupled microresonators

Alexander V. Tsukanov, I. Yu. Kateev

Abstract A scheme for measuring the state of a charge qubit on a semiconductor single-electron double quantum dot (DQD) coupled to a photonic molecule (PM) consisting of three optical microresonators is proposed. The DQD that is the qubit plays the role of a nonlinear element whose electron state affects a PM response to an external laser field. Analysis of the spectroscopic response of the structure in the steady-state regime allows one to determine the state of the qubit. As an example, the spectrum of the PM formed by three GaAs microdisk resonators are calculated. The effect of various system parameters on the measuring contrast and the signal-to-noise ratio is studied. It is shown that this ratio can reach values of 15 000–20 000 for certain sets of parameters.

Controlling optical bistability via interacting double dark resonances in linear quantum dot molecules

Si-Cong Tian, Ren-Gang Wan, Cunzhu Tong +1 more

The behavior of optical bistability (OB) in linear triple quantum dot molecules (QDMs) using double tunneling coupling by means of a unidirectional ring cavity is investigated. The linear and nonlinear susceptibilities of the system are also investigated. The double tunneling between the quantum dots can induce the interaction of double dark resonances, which can enhance the nonlinear response of the system. The type, the hysteresis loop, and the threshold of OB can be controlled by the intensity of the double tunneling and the detuning of the probe field. Our results give insights for future experiments and applications in optics using QDMs.

The effect of geometrical shape on the nonlinear optical absorption spectrum of double, triple, and quadruple quantum dot molecules

Nader Daneshfar, P. Chavoshani, G. Heydarpour

In the present study, the effect of the geometrical shape of quantum dots on the nonlinear absorption coefficient of semiconductor quantum dot molecules (QDMs) is theoretically investigated. The nonlinear optical response of QDMs is analyzed using the density matrix formalism, because this theoretical framework provides a rigorous and unified method to describe the interaction between electromagnetic fields and confined carriers, enabling the derivation of both linear and higher-order nonlinear susceptibilities. Accordingly, the nonlinear optical absorption of double quantum dot molecules, triple quantum dot molecules, and quadruple quantum dot molecules coupled through tunneling is studied and compared. We show that the optical spectral response of QDMs is significantly affected by their shape and the strength of tunneling between coupled quantum dots of a QDM. The results indicate that the shape of quantum dots can significantly affect nonlinear optical absorption. In addition, the tunneling intensity between the closely quantum dots strongly affects the nonlinear absorption, and the width and number of transparency windows.
