Abstract

We report four channel WDM/OCDMA experiments using superstructured fiber Bragg gratings for coding and decoding. The codes are four times longer (255 chips) and have twice the chip rate (320 Gchip/s) of any previously reported direct sequence OCDMA demonstration. As far as we are aware this is also the first experimental demonstration of quaternary phase coding in OCDMA.

Stealth Transmission of Time-Domain Spectral Phase Encoded OCDMA Signal Over WDM Network

Zhensen Gao, Xu Wang, Nobuyuki Kataoka +1 more

Security enhancement of stealth channel by combining time-domain spectral phase en/decoding (SPE/D) OCDMA scheme and group velocity dispersion is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The time-domain spectral phase encoded OCDMA signal, which utilizes a linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating for pulse broadening and a high-speed phase modulator for SPE, has been stealth transmitted over a public wavelengthdivision-multiplexing network. Error-free transmission (bit-error rate-9) has been achieved for both the public and stealth channel with 32-chip 40-Gchip/s gold codes.

1.25 Gbit/s transmission of optical FFH-OCDMA signals over 80 km with 16 users

H. Ben Jaafar, Sophie LaRochelle, Pierre-Yves Cortès +1 more

Encoding/decoding of FFH-OCDMA signals from 16 users is performed with Bragg grating arrays. Transmission of the multiplexed signals is demonstrated over 80 km of standard fiber at data rate exceeding 1 Gbit/s using dispersion compensating modules.

Experimental investigation on security of temporal phase coding OCDMA system with code-shift keying and differential phase-shift keying

Bo Dai, Zhensen Gao, Xu Wang +2 more

We experimentally demonstrate the security vulnerability in the temporal phase coding single-user differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) and code-shift keying (CSK) OCDMA systems with a DPSK demodulator. In the experiment, we build up the 2.5Gbit/s DPSK- and CSK-OCDMA systems. In the systems, we use two 31-chip 640 Gchip/s superstructured fiber Bragg grating encoders for the signal encoding. In the receiving side, we remove the decoders and utilize the DPSK demodulator to detect the encoded signals directly. We successfully achieve the error-free BER performance and obtaine the clear open eye diagrams using the detection without the proper decoding. It indicates the existence of the eavesdropping vulnerability in the both systems. Furthermore, we also discuss the principle of DPSK demodulation attack.

Demonstration of an All-Optical OCDMA Encryption and Decryption System With Variable Two-Code Keying

Natalie B. Kostinski, Konstantin Kravtsov, Paul R. Prucnal

We demonstrate the first all-optical optical code-division multiple-access (OCDMA) encryption and decryption system with variable two-code keying. The nonlinear optical loop mirror (NOLM)-based exclusive or (xor) employed in encryption utilizes the shortest length silica-based nonlinear fiber element to date, enabling a compact architecture. Fiber Bragg grating arrays create wavelength-hopping time-spreading OCDMA codes from broadband pulses at output ports of the xor resulting in variable two-code keying, a code-switching modulation format characterized by a random alternation in bit representation and immunity to differential analysis unlike fixed two-code keying. The terahertz optical asymmetric demultiplexer employed in decryption shows mutual compatibility of nonlinear fiber-based and semiconductor optical amplifier-based NOLM configurations. Our architecture can potentially perform one-time pad encryption and decryption for unconditional security.

Performance analysis of WDM-based coherent time-spreading optical CDMA system

Jianhua Ji, Zhiwen Chen, Ming Xu

The performance of WDM-based coherent time-spreading OCDMA system is studied. Upper bound and lower bound of normalized throughput are obtained with 8 wavelength channels and 127 length and 511 length Gold codes. It is shown that when all simultaneous users are equally allocated to different wavelength channels, WDM+ TS OCDMA has much better performance. However, if there is no central control to allocate wavelength channels equally, WDM+ TS OCDMA system has the in-between performance of normalized throughput.
