Abstract

Security enhancement of stealth channel by combining time-domain spectral phase en/decoding (SPE/D) OCDMA scheme and group velocity dispersion is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The time-domain spectral phase encoded OCDMA signal, which utilizes a linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating for pulse broadening and a high-speed phase modulator for SPE, has been stealth transmitted over a public wavelengthdivision-multiplexing network. Error-free transmission (bit-error rate-9) has been achieved for both the public and stealth channel with 32-chip 40-Gchip/s gold codes.

Transparent Transmission of a Secure Time Domain Spectral Phase Encoding/Decoding DPSK–OCDM Signal Over a DWDM Network

Zhensen Gao, Bo Dai, Xu Wang +2 more

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a transparent optical-code-division multiplexing (OCDM) overlay public dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) network architecture enabled by a passive spectral notch filter for extracting and detecting a secure OCDM signal, which employs a time domain spectral phase encoding/decoding scheme that can simultaneously generate differential-phase-shift-keying (DPSK) data and optical code patterns using only a single phase modulator. The time domain encoded OCDM signal has been scrambled bit-by-bit by a prime hopping pattern and concealed in the public DWDM channels to significantly improve the OCDM channel security. The effect of optical code patterns, the channel number, and bandwidth of the spectral notch filters on the system performance has been theoretically simulated and experimentally validated. In the experiment, error-free transmission of a 2.5-Gb/s time domain spectral phase encoded DPSK–OCDM signal with three 8-chip, 20-Gchip/s optical codes and a scrambled code pattern in the transparent OCDM overlay two-channel 10-Gb/s DWDM network has been successfully demonstrated.

Stealth transmission of 127-chip SSFBG EPS-TPE/D OOK-OCDM secure signal over a public 2-wavelength WDM network

Yinfang Chen, Rong Wang, Tao Fang +5 more

A semi-physical simulation was proposed on stealth transmission of 10Gbps 127-chip superstructure fiber Bragg grating (SSFBG) based equivalent phase shift (EPS) temporal phase encoded/decoded (TPE/D) on-off keyed (OOK) optical-code-division multiplexing (OCDM) secure signal over a 2-wavelength 10Gbps wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) public network. Secure signal can be error-free transmitted beneath the noise floor of 2-wavelength public WDM network both in temporal and frequency domain. The decoding performance of secure signal was highly affected by wavelength space between public and stealth channel. The power penalty of each WDM channel was less than 0.1dB due to existence of secure signal.

Optical stealth transmission based on super-continuum generation in highly nonlinear fiber over WDM network

Huatao Zhu, Rong Wang, Tao Pu +4 more

In this Letter, the optical stealth transmission carried by super-continuum spectrum optical pulses generated in highly nonlinear fiber is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In the proposed transmission scheme, super-continuum signals are reshaped in the spectral domain through a wavelength-selective switch and are temporally spread by a chromatic dispersion device to achieve the same noise-like characteristic as the noise in optical networks, so that in both the time domain and the spectral domain, the stealth signals are hidden in public channel. Our experimental results show that compared with existing schemes where stealth channels are carried by amplified spontaneous emission noise, super-continuum signal can increase the transmission performance and robustness.

Demonstration of optical steganography transmission using temporal phase coded optical signals with spectral notch filtering

Xuezhi Hong, Dawei Wang, Lei Xu +1 more

A novel approach is proposed and experimentally demonstrated for optical steganography transmission in WDM networks using temporal phase coded optical signals with spectral notch filtering. A temporal phase coded stealth channel is temporally and spectrally overlaid onto a public WDM channel. Direct detection of the public channel is achieved in the presence of the stealth channel. The interference from the public channel is suppressed by spectral notching before the detection of the optical stealth signal. The approach is shown to have good compatibility and robustness to the existing WDM network for optical steganography transmission.

Novel Synchronous Time-domain Spectral Phase Encoding/Decoding Scheme for Secured Optical Communication

Xu Wang, Naoya Wada

In this paper, we propose a novel synchronous time-domain spectral phase encoding/decoding (SPED) scheme for secured optical communication. The pulse generator generates short optical pulses at data-rate, the SPE consists of a pair of dispersive components with opposite dispersion values (+D and -D) to stretch/compress the optical pulse and a phase modulator (PM) or a hybrid intensity/phase modulator (IM/PM) for data and OC modulation. The spectral phase decoding (SPD) is similar to the SPE with a PM synchronously driven by OC (the complementary pattern of OC) at a repetition rate equal to the data-rate. The OCs thus can be rapidly reconfigured even bit-by-bit to enhance the system confidentiality.
