Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate the generation of photon-pairs in the visible wavelength band through an intermodal spontaneous four-wave mixing process between nondegenerate spatial pump modes. Polarization entangled photon-pairs are generated with a Sagnac loop configuration composed of a 10-m long few-mode fiber and a 532-nm, picosecond pump laser. The coincidence to accidental ratio of the photon-pair source was measured with respect to the pump power. The two-photon quantum state was characterized through the two-photon interference visibilities with 90.68% in the H/V basis and 80.55% in the D/A basis.

Polarization-entangled photon pairs in the visible spectral band using intermodal spontaneous four-wave mixing

Ju Han Lee, Kyungtaek Lee, Junha Jung

Abstract The theoretical and experimental investigation results of the generation of the polarization-entangled photon pairs operating at visible wavelengths are reported. The generation of polarization-entangled photon pairs was based on intermodal spontaneous four-wave mixing (IM-SFWM) using standard step-index few-mode fiber. It was shown theoretically that several combinations of IM-SFWM processes could occur depending on spatial modes of a pump beam. A polarization-entangled photon pair source based on Sagnac loop incorporating a segment of few-mode fiber were then experimentally created. A two-photon interference fringe visibility of our implemented photon pair source were 91.7% and 88.8% in H/V bases and D/A bases, respectively. A quantum state tomography was also conducted to reconstruct the density matrix of the generated state with a fidelity to a maximum entangled state of 93.1%.

Polarization-entangled photon generation in multimode fiber at visible wavelength

Kyungtaek Lee, Ikjun Hong, Ju Han Lee

We experimentally demonstrate the generation of polarization-entangled photons at visible wavelengths through a spontaneous four-wave mixing process. Polarization entangled photon pair is created by pumping multimode fiber inside a Sagnac loop. The central wavelength and the efficiency of the generated signal and idler photons of different spatial modes are studied. We observed two-photon interference with visibility >92.4% for LP11 spatial modes of signal and idler photon at the wavelength of 456 nm and 633 nm, respectively.

Fiber-based frequency-degenerate polarization entangled photon pair sources for information encoding

Feng Zhu, Wei Zhang, Yidong Huang

In this paper, a generation scheme of telecom band frequency-degenerate polarization entangled photon pairs is proposed and demonstrated experimentally. It is based on the vector spontaneous four wave mixing (SFWM) process in a Sagnac fiber loop, in which two frequency-degenerate and polarization orthogonal biphoton states have equal probabilities for generating along the clockwise and counter-clockwise directions. The quantum interference between them at the 50:50 fiber coupler of the fiber loop separates the two frequency-degenerate photons in a pair, leading to the generation of polarization entanglement. The raw fringe visibilities of the two-photon interferences under two non-orthogonal polarization bases are 91% and 90%, respectively. Information can be encoded on the generated photon pairs using the polarization entangled Bell states, which requires the frequency-degenerate property. It is demonstrated by a simplified Bell state measurement with a fringe visibility of 83%.

Generation of polarization-entangled photon pairs and violation of Bell’s inequality using spontaneous four-wave mixing in a fiber loop

Hiroki Takesue, Kyo Inoue

We report the generation of polarization entangled photon pairs in the 1550-nm wavelength band using spontaneous four-wave mixing in a dispersion-shifted fiber loop. The use of the fiber-loop configuration made it possible to generate polarization entangled states very stably. With accidental coincidences subtracted, we obtained coincidence fringes with $>90%$ visibilities, and observed a violation of Bell's inequality by seven standard deviations. We also confirmed the preservation of the quantum correlation between the photons even after they had been separated by 20 km of optical fiber.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a generation scheme of telecom-band fiber-based frequency-degenerate polarization-entanglement photon pair source. Basing on the vector spontaneous four wave mixing process in a Sagnac fiber loop along the clockwise and counter-clockwise directions, two frequency-degenerate and polarization orthogonal biphoton states generate and then lead to the polarization entanglement states by the interference at the beamsplitter. The raw fringe visibilities of the two-photon interferences are 97% and 92%, respectively. Information can be encoded on the generated photon pairs using the polarization entangled Bell states. It is demonstrated by a simplified Bell state measurement with a fringe visibility of 83%.
