Abstract

The introduction of a self-consistent potential, the use of representation diagrams dependent on'time between 0 and beta , and the application of an algebraic theorem on the operators of creation and absorption permit the simple expression of the thermodynamic magnitudes as a function of the occupation number for a quantum system. PERTURBATION-THEORY RULES FOR COMPUTING THE SELF-ENERGY OPERATOR IN QUANTUM STATISTICAL MECHANICS

Gordon Baym, Andrew M. Sessler

Convenient rules are given for the general term in the time-independent perturbation-theory expansion for the self-energy operator of quantum statistical mechanics. The rules are derived by starting from the usual formalism involving time-dependent Green's functions.

STATISTICAL QUANTUM MECHANICS. DENSITY OPERATORS AND THERMODYNAMIC VALUES

Jacques Yvon

The simple and double density operators, as functions of temperature and activity, are computed for a system in equilibrium. The scattering operator allows, in some cases, separating the thermodnamic variables. In particular, these variables do not appear in the expression of the double density operator, as a function of the simple density operator; which explains the fact that this expression is still valid out of equilibrium. THE INTRODUCTION OF STATISTICAL IDEAS IN THE QUANTUM MECHANICS OF PARTICLES WITH SPIN

J. C. Aron

In previous studies a physical model for the spin wave was proposed, and the relations of the scattering theory with the quantum mechanics of a particle without spin were studied. In the present work, the statistical ideas are introduced into the mechanics of particles with spin and the measure in which they permit the definition of the physical model is examined. (tr-auth)

Unified formulation of quantum and statistical mechanics

Z. Onyszkiewicz

Using one and the same simple variational principle for average energy, a new equation is obtained equivalent to the set of two equations: the time-independent Schrödinger equation and that describing canonical Gibbs distribution.
