Tunneling of Bose—Einstein condensate and interference effect in a harmonic trap with a Gaussian energy barrier

Wei Hua, Bin Li, Xue‐Shen Liu

The tunneling effect of Bose—Einstein condensate (BEC) in a harmonic trap with a Gaussian energy barrier is studied in this paper. The initial condensate evolves into two separate moving condensates after the tunneling time under certain conditions. The interference pattern between the two moving condensates is given as a comparison and as a further demonstration of the existence of the global phase.

The Coherent Tunnelling with Position–Dependent Mass in a Bistable Potential

Sen‐Yue Lou, Guang-jiong Ni

A particle with position–dependent mass moving in a double well potential is investigated. An exact instanton solution is given and tunnelling effect caused by it is considered. We calculate the energy of the ground state of this model by introducing some effective mass and frequency of oscillator.

Macroscopic quantum tunneling effect of Z2 topological order

Jing Yu, Su-Peng Kou

In this paper, macroscopic quantum tunneling (MQT) effect of ${Z}_{2}$ topological order in the Wen-Plaquette model is studied. This kind of MQT is characterized by quantum tunneling processes of different virtual quasiparticles moving around a torus. By a high-order degenerate perturbation approach, the effective pseudospin models of the degenerate ground states are obtained. From these models, we get the energy splitting of the ground states, which are consistent with those obtained from exact diagonalization method.
