A Survey of Quantum Internet Protocols From a Layered Perspective

Yuan Li, Hao Zhang, Chen Zhang +2 more

With the development of quantum technologies, the quantum internet has demonstrated unique applications beyond the classical internet and has been investigated extensively in recent years. In the construction of conventional internet software, the protocol stack is the core architecture for coordinating modules. How to design a protocol stack for the quantum internet is a challenging problem. In this paper, we systematically review the latest developments in quantum internet protocols from the perspective of protocol stack layering. By summarizing and analyzing the progress in each layer’s protocols, we reveal the current research status and connections among the layers. Our work provides readers with a comprehensive understanding of the quantum internet and can help support researchers focusing on a single layer to better define the functions that the layer should possess and optimize related protocols. This approach enables all layers to work better together based on an understanding of the other layers.

Bounding capacities of quantum internet protocols

Koji Azuma

A quantum internet holds promise for achieving communication tasks that seem to be intractable by the current internet. The required functionality of a physical layer for such a quantum internet is to distribute entanglement efficiently to clients over a quantum network. A fundamental building block to design such efficient distribution of entanglement is to bound capacities of such quantum internet protocols. In this talk, we present a set of efficient linear programs to bound quantum/private capacities of quantum internet protocols, as well as their analytic upper/lower bounds. Our linear program is applied to bipartite cases, multi-pair cases, and a multi-partite case, covering almost all known situations.

Security and Privacy Aspects Using Quantum Internet

Nilay R. Mistry, Ankit Y. Dholakiya, Jay Prajapati

Quantum internet is an innovative approach to secure communication. Quantum internet is the next revolution in technology that enables the devices to perform operations that are beyond the classical internet. Quantum internet with quantum cryptography is one of the best solutions for secure data communication. Quantum internet uses the fundamental laws of quantum physics, which make it secure against sophisticated network attacks. In this research, the authors described quantum cryptography, which enhances the secure transmission over quantum internet using cryptographic protocols. These protocols use random bits transformations, which prevent attackers to make out the patterns of random bits transformations. Also, they introduced the conceptual OSI model for quantum internet, which makes it easy to understand the working of the quantum internet at different layers. Quantum internet can be implemented in intelligence network, satellite communication, critical infrastructure, etc. This can mark a significant change in secure communication.
