The method of Г-operators and the tertiary quantization of quantum electrodynamics equations

Abstract

Abstract In cases of solving the problem described by the equations of quantum electrodynamics within the second quantization formalism, it is proposed to quantize these equations one more time, and then solve this problem within the tertiary quantization formalism. In optics of the dispersive media, this procedure makes it possible to avoid the problem of the forced breaking of the photon quantum correlators and to discover many correlation effects previously unknown.

Quantum electrodynamics

Monique Combescot, Shiue-Yuan Shiau

Abstract In the chapter « Quantum electrodynamics », both the particles and the electromagnetic field are quantized. An elementary quantization procedure is first proposed in which the classical field normal modes are naïvely replaced by photon operators. The full quantization procedure is then presented that makes use of the Lagrangian formalism and the resulting Hamilton equations. This chapter ends with a discussion on photon number states and coherent Glauber states.

On the issue of quantum theory of the Fresnel reflection

B. A. Veklenko

Abstract A new method for solution of the quantum electrodynamics equations is proposed. This method makes it possible to avoid the procedure of breaking the quantum correlators and bridges the gap between the theories of Maxwell gases and the theories of superconductivity and superfluidity. As an example, the quantum theory of the Fresnel reflection is considered. It is shown that, even outside the scattering layer, there are the photon states correlated with the scattering layer by means of the quantum correlations. In particular, such photons form two reflected beams previously unknown.

Method of integro-differential equations in quantum optics

Oleg N. Gadomsky, Konstantin V. Krutitsky

A new integro-differential operator equation which describes the propagation of a quantized radiation field in a resonant medium is obtained. We have investigated a system of atoms on the basis of the interaction of H-like atoms through the field of virtual photons, taking into account electronic and positronic intermediate states in the atomic spectrum. This interaction is treated as a third-order effect in quantum electrodynamics. We suggest a new method to solve boundary-value problems in quantum optics which employs the joint system of material and field equations.

Comments on a Proposed Quantization of Interacting Fields

Udo Schröder

The meaning of a recently proposed formalism for quantization of interacting fields is discussed by studying the consequences of the time-dependent unitary transformation which is essential for this approach. It turns out that non-relativistic quantum electrodynamics in dipole approximation may serve as a useful, although rather singular, example for this method. In the relativistic case a different point of view is suggested in order to avoid inconsistent interpretation. It is further possible to give arguments for a reasonable choice of the unitary transformation concerned

The Nature of the Photon and Quantum Optics

B. A. Veklenko

In a concise, but accessible for the first acquaintance form the procedure for the quantization of linear oscillator is set out. By analogy with this procedure the procedure of quantization (second quantization) of classical Maxwell’s electrodynamics is set up. The physical sense of the wave functions arguments of transverse electromagnetic field and its Fourier transformation is set up. One pay attention as for quantum coherent (almost a classic) states of the electromagnetic field and for photonics Fock states. Attention is drawn to the fact of absence the power of the universal content of such concepts as field amplitude, phase and number of particles (photons), which are used by experimenter’s to describe the states of a quantized field. The semi quantitative description the interaction processes of a quantum electromagnetic field with substance is set up. Specified situations are shown in which the discrepancy between the predictions of classical and quantum electrodynamics is noticeable at the macroscopic level.
