Software for measuring parameters of single photon detectors at a modular research quantum key distribution setup

D. E. Kashirskiĭ, Meerimai Mazhitova

Abstract This article considers the issue of developing software for automated measurement of single photon detectors parameters at a modular research quantum key distribution setup. Using the developed software, a technique for measuring single photon detector parameters was tested. The dependences of the parameters on the pulse repetition rate, the degree of attenuation of laser radiation, and the duration of one measurement are analyzed.

Evaluation of the Operational Parameters of Single-Photon Detectors in Quantum Key Distribution Devices

Vladimir Zavodilenko, Anton Losev, Alexandr A. Filyaev +1 more

Abstract Automated measuring stand (AMS) for evaluation of the operational parameters of single-photon detectors (SPD) has been developed together with the software that implements the method of evaluating SPD efficiency parameters from the experimental data measured with AMS. We present graphical interface of the software, which allows generating recommendations for configuring operation mode of the detector and its subsequent integration into the quantum key distribution (QKD) system. Successful tests of the results of our work enable their implementation in the SPD production process.

Key parameters of single photon receivers and sources for fi ber-optic quantum cryptography systems: parameter analysis and measurement methods

Stepan B. Bychkov, Ivan S. Korolev, С. В. Тихомиров

The development of fi ber-optic communication and data transmission systems gives rise to a number of new challenges, among which information protection against unauthorized access is of particular relevance. In response to this need, quantum cryptography has emerged – optical cryptographic systems with quantum key distribution. Such systems protect communication channels by encrypting data with a one-time secret key. The theoretical foundation guaranteeing secure key transmission relies on the Heisenberg uncertainty principle and the no-cloning theorem for quantum states of elementary particles. However, real-world quantum cryptography systems exhibit vulnerabilities stemming from imperfections in their components. Single photon detectors and single photon sources are critical elements of quantum key distribution systems. This work analyses the main types of attacks on quantum cryptography equipment and identifi es the key parameters of single photon sources and single photon detectors. Knowledge of their actual values can be crucial for proving a system’s resilience against attacks. Additionally, the paper describes the equipment and methods used to study single-photon sources. The study also describes the method and results of investigating the quantum effi ciency and false trigger probabilities of gated single-photon detectors with fi ber input. The described measurement methods are harmonized with the recommendations of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. Together, the described measurement techniques and setups enable the assessment of single photon source and detector parameters during expert evaluation of quantum cryptography system vulnerabilities. The paper concludes with a call for the establishment of a reference database to support metrological assurance of key parameters for single photon sources and receivers, in order to advance quantum cryptography systems

The article considers a system for measuring the parameters of single photon detectors implemented on the EMQOS 1.0 platform. A description of the experimental setup and its main parameters is presented. The possibility of using the assembled experimental stand for the metrology of photodetectors in the field of telecommunication wavelengths is shown. Design Automation of Single Photon Counting Method for Quantum Random Number Generation

Dwi Novazrianto, Alwan Muhammad Fajar, Aprilia Kusuma Dewi +3 more

EDU-QCRY1 is one of the quantum key distribution devices in order to generate quantum random bit. In this paper, we conduct a mechanism to produce a key sequence based on single photon counting using EDU-QCRY1 Single Photon Detector module for receiving data which can be acquired using the receiver’s device automation using a Light Dependent Resistor parameter. The design of quantum random generator is using protocol of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) then compared to true table of the BB84 protocol. The average speed of the quantum bit in the automation device is 0.0604 seconds with estimation for 106quantum random bit around 16 hours experiment. Within the random bits, some difference occurs when the sender and receiver have a different basis. This research proves the efficiency of automation bit storage on the EDU-QCRY1 Single Photon Detector for generating a quantum random bit and has the valid result as the experiment in performing key distribution simulations using EDU-QCRY1 devices.

A Modular Quantum Key Distribution Software Stack for Rapid Experimental Prototyping

Omar Amer, Kevin Freyberg, Vaibhav Garg +1 more

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is a rapidly advancing field, yet there is often a divide between theory, experiment, and practice. One difficulty in evaluating novel QKD protocols is in the post-processing needed. We are reporting here on the current development of a modular QKD software stack researchers can use to evaluate the performance of new QKD protocols, either using real hardware or simulated. We are designing our system to be modular and extendable allowing for rapid prototyping of new systems.
