Abstract

Abstract This paper presents a theoretical investigation of quantum beats of excitons in GaAs/AlGaAs circular cylindrical quantum wires. A three-level model of excitons, including a ground state and two excited states, has been applied to derive the renormalized wavefunctions and the time-dependent absorption intensity of excitons when the system is irradiated by a strong pump laser resonating with the distance between the two excited-levels. Our results show that a periodic oscillation form of the absorption intensity, obvious evidence of the quantum beat behavior, has appeared. Furthermore, the mechanism of the generation, as well as the effects of the wire radius and the pump laser detuning on the frequency (period) and amplitude of quantum beats, have been explained in detail. These results suggest potential applications in the fabrication of some quantum computation devices.

Exciton quantum beats in GaAs/AlAs disk-shaped quantum dots

Thi Dieu Hien Le, Thi Ngoc Bao Le, Nhu Thao Dinh

Using the renormalized wavefunction approach, we examined the excitonic quantum beat in a three-level system in disk-shaped quantum dots. The non-stationary electron wave function and the time-dependent exciton absorption intensity under the effect of an intensity pump laser that resonates with two excited electron states were also provided. Our numerical findings demonstrate that the time-dependent exciton absorption intensity takes the shape of a periodic oscillation when the quantum dot is subjected to a powerful resonant pump laser. This is clear evidence that quantum beats appears in the quantum disk. Additionally, the dot radius and the pump field detuning significantly affect the beat characteristics, such as frequency and amplitude.

Three-Level Optical Stark Effect of Excitons in GaAs Cylindrical Quantum Wires

Đinh Như Thảo, Dương Đình Phước, Lê Thị Ngọc Bảo +3 more

This study looks at the three-level optical Stark effect of excitons in GaAs cylindrical quantum wires, utilizing the renormalized wave function theory. By applying the three-level model consisting of the first two electron levels connected via a powerful pump laser and the first hole level, we observe the appearance of the excitonic optical Stark effect through the appearance of two separated peaks in the exciton absorption spectra. In addition, the strong impact of the pump laser detuning and the wire radius on the optical Stark effect are also put under thorough examination. Finally, a brief guidance for experimental verification is also suggested.

Optical exciton Stark effect and quantum beats at exciton quasienergy levels in quantum wells

A. I. Bobrysheva, M. I. Shmiglyuk, V. G. Pavlov

The optical Stark effect and quantum beats in a GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well are investigated theoretically for the case when the first two electron size-quantization levels are mixed dynamically by a high-intensity CO 2 laser pulse polarized perpendicular to the plane of the quantum well. The quasienergy spectrum of heavy-hole excitons and the ratio between the probabilities of exciton transition with and without a strong electromagnetic field are obtained. The time-dependent intensity of absorption of the sensing light is determined. It exhibits quantum beats at twice the electron Rabi frequency.

Quantum beats of light-hole and heavy-hole excitons in reflection spectra of GaAs/AlGaAs quantum well

A. V. Mikhailov, Artur V. Trifonov, O. S. Sultanov +2 more

In this work we experimentally study dynamics of the heavy-hole and light-hole exciton states in a quantum well under coherent excitation of both excitonic resonances using co- and cross-linear and circular polarizations of pump and probe beams. Oscillations of basic parameters of excitonic resonances are observed. Their dependence on the polarization of the pump and probe beams is used to determine the structure of states of the heavy-hole and light-hole excitons by means of theoretical modelling of experimental data. Keywords: quantum well, excitons, quantum beats, light-hole exciton, heavy-hole exciton.

A theoretical study of the optical Stark effect in InGaAs/InAlAs quantum dots

Đinh Như Thảo, Lê Thị Ngọc Bảo, Dương Đình Phước +1 more

Abstract In this paper, we examine the three-level optical Stark effect of excitons in InGaAs/InAlAs quantum dots using renormalized wavefunction formulation. The system was assumed to be irradiated by two lasers in which a strong laser dynamically couples electron-quantized levels, while a weaker laser probes interband absorption. Our results show that, in the presence of the resonant strong laser, two new absorption peaks of excitons appear in the absorption spectrum as a clear indication of the effect. In addition, we propose that the formation of the effect in low-dimensional structures could have connection to the splitting of electron levels. Furthermore, we seek to explain the essential dependence of the amplitude and position of two peaks on pump field detuning.

Quantum beats in excitons in Cu2O

A. I. Bobrysheva, M. I. Shmiglyuk, V. Pavlov

A theoretical study is carried out of quantum beats (QB) in the time-dependent intensities of absorption of a test pulse and of spontaneous luminescence in a Cu2O crystal under conditions of double optical resonance. It is assumed that pumping is effected by a CO2-laser pulse which dynamically couples the exciton levels 1s(Γ 5 + ) and 2p(Γ 4 − ,Γ 5 − ,Γ 3 − Γ 2 − ) and splits them into two or three pairs of quasi-energy levels. The frequency of the test pulse is in resonance with the frequency Γ 5 + of the exciton. The corresponding intensities for various directions of the electric vector of the pump field E L, the polarization vector ξ, and the wave vector q of the test pulse are obtained. The frequency of the quantum beats is twice the Rabi frequency, which for different values of E L, ξ and q contains different sets of matrix elements of the dipole transitions between the levels 1s(Γ 5 + ) and 2p(Γ 4 − ,Γ 5 − ,Γ 3 − Γ 2 − ). Thus, by measuring the period of the quantum beats it is possible to determine the unknown matrix elements of the indicated transitions.
