Abstract

A mathematical model of communications channel that transfers data by means of separate photons having different polarization has been developed. The expression for calculating of optic fiber throughput has been obtained that takes into account probabilities of depolarization and absorption of radiation photon. As a result of implemented simulation it has been found that data throughput depends on the length of optic fiber. It has been established that photon absorption as compared with its depolarization contributes greatly to the size of optic fiber throughput.

Optical Fiber Data Throughput In A Quantum Communication System

Arash Kosari, Ali Araghi

A mathematical model for an optical-fiber communication channel is developed which results in an expression that calculates the throughput and loss of the corresponding link. The data are assumed to be transmitted by using of separate photons with different polarizations. The derived model also shows the dependency of data throughput with length of the channel and depolarization factor. It is observed that absorption of photons affects the throughput in a more intensive way in comparison with that of depolarization. Apart from that, the probability of depolarization and the absorption of radiated photons are obtained.

A mathematical model of the quantum communication channel has been built that contains a photon counter as a receiving unit and allows to take into account how the quantum efficiency of detection, probability of dark pulses formation of the legitimate user receiver module, probability of optical radiation loss due to its unauthorized output from the optical fiber affect the throughput of a quantum communication channel.

Analysis of polarization mode dispersion effect on quantum state decoherence in fiber-based optical quantum communication

Shamsolah Salemian, Shahram Mohammadnejad

The implementation of quantum communication protocols in long optical fibers is limited by several decoherence mechanisms. In this contribution we review this mechanisms and analysis their effect on the quantum states. Because of asymmetry in the real fibers, the two orthogonal polarization modes are propagated at different phase and group velocities. The difference in group velocities results in Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD). It is created by random fluctuations of the residual birefringence in optical fibers, such that the State of Polarization (SOP) of an optical signal will turn randomly over time, in an unpredictable way. In optical quantum communication, quantum state measurement is necessary. The bottleneck for communication between far apart nodes is the increasing of the error probability with the length of the channel connecting the nodes. For an optical fiber, the value of absorption and depolarization of a photon (i.e., the qubit) increases exponentially with the length of the fiber.

Using of single-quantum registration for confidential information transmission systems over fiber-optic communication lines

Гулаков, И. Р., Зеневич, А. О., Тимофеев, А. М. +1 more
